Family vacation - March 2015
"We are a family of five (kids ages 11-15) and stayed at this condo over March Break 2015. The apartment is very clean with nice facilities. The main bedroom is very comfortable. The second bedroom has 2 single beds, but a mattress could fit in between so all 3 kids slept there comfortably. There was no issues with payment or security deposit which was refunded as we were checking out. The adjoining beach is at one end of the Orient beach and was very private with a short walk along the beach to a busier location with restaurants and water sports. We were very happy being on the quieter end. Overall we would not hesitate to come back. Martine was a delight and we would definitely recommend this property."

"My wife and I stayed here for 11 nights in November and it was great. We opted for this size unit over a studio to give us some extra room but what really made this ideal was the location of the unit, the reserved parking spot and how well equipped the unit is. As others have commented, the kitchen is well stocked and included little things zip lock bags, aluminum foil, spices, etc.. We drove to several other beaches during our stay and the beach chairs and umbrella were excellent - portable but substantial (not your Walmart one time use items) and several coolers from which to choose. There are 2 remote controlled A/C units that are whisper quiet (not sure why hotels don't use these?) and the electric storm shutters not only keep the morning light out but made us feel secure at night. Marie-France was easy to deal with and very responsive. She met us at the unit, gave us the quick tour, left us a local cell phone to use and made sure we felt "at home". I highly recommend this unit! We have rented from VRBO many times and this one is the best so far. We don't usually re-visit the same place but might have to make an exception for this one!"

"My wife and I have been to St. Marteen 3 time now and this villa was the best value so far. It does not have five star hotel quality but it does have the working man quality, its not the top of the line but it works. Just as stated on VRBO 3 bed, two bath with pool. During our stay the the brackets for the handheld shower heads fell off the wall, for both showers, the hardware just rusted away. The pool is small but it was clean and very nice for floating around in the evening trying to cool of the sunburn from the day at the beach. The things that happened to use while using this villa are the third that happen to you while living at home. The deck around the pool could use some TLC and the ladder was not secured well enough for me to use. The top step fastener was missing one of its nut.
Just a little while before getting there the previous renter brought a cat and it had kittens while there. I did not realize that cats came with the place when I rented it. I'm sure that they will become more strays for the island.
The location to the beach from here is awesome, 5 min walk. There are shops and restaurants just down the road. You could actually stay at this villa without a car. A nice little market is on the way to the beach.
All in all it was clean, decorated, well equipped and charming. If I were to go back with a group of people or family this would be the place."

"La Martiniere is a well designed house with stunning views over Orient Bay with St. Barth's in the distance. The deck area by the pool is particularly nice. You can be in the shade no matter what time of day. The beds are comfortable and all the appliances worked well. The plantings around the pool and side of the house are very attractive. Even though the steep, narrow driveway is a bit of a challenge, the house and grounds are definitely five star.
We were met promptly on our arrival by Jean-Phillippe from the property managers. He quickly showed us some of the basics: How the safe box works; how to make the metal window guards go up and down, etc. He left quickly without telling us how to work to clothes washer with its French instructions; how to work the various remotes; what the alarm? gadget at the pool was and how it worked; and before we could ask our questions. He said he didn't know about the housekeeping schedule, but would get back to us. He didn't. He also said he'd check on us later in the week. He didn't.
The otherwise helpful binder with information about the house and area said the "housekeeper will be in every day except Sunday for a few hours to clean and place fresh linens." On another page it said the housekeeper would come either "every 4th day or so," every other day, or every day except Sunday. We had no housekeeping services. The lead property manager told us that on instructions from the owner there were no housekeeping services during our stay. This is really no big deal, but the written policy needs to be made accurate. More important is that there was mold on the wall in the master bath, a few roaches, and a bunch of dead insects in a corner of the living room. One mosquito repellant device was low on oil. The other was empty. We bought the oil and a third device at the local store, so had little trouble with mosquitos indoors after that. (Pest control must be hard to keep up with on the island, so we know the property managers have a challenge with it.)
Finally, we got conjunctivitis there. Given exposure and time of onset, our doctor thinks it might have come from the pool. I hope not, because otherwise, the pool is great.
We'd gladly return to La Martiniere if some of the issues (mold, pest management) issues were taken care of and especially if we knew the pool was safe."
