Great House, So-So Management
"La Martiniere is a well designed house with stunning views over Orient Bay with St. Barth's in the distance. The deck area by the pool is particularly nice. You can be in the shade no matter what time of day. The beds are comfortable and all the appliances worked well. The plantings around the pool and side of the house are very attractive. Even though the steep, narrow driveway is a bit of a challenge, the house and grounds are definitely five star.
We were met promptly on our arrival by Jean-Phillippe from the property managers. He quickly showed us some of the basics: How the safe box works; how to make the metal window guards go up and down, etc. He left quickly without telling us how to work to clothes washer with its French instructions; how to work the various remotes; what the alarm? gadget at the pool was and how it worked; and before we could ask our questions. He said he didn't know about the housekeeping schedule, but would get back to us. He didn't. He also said he'd check on us later in the week. He didn't.
The otherwise helpful binder with information about the house and area said the "housekeeper will be in every day except Sunday for a few hours to clean and place fresh linens." On another page it said the housekeeper would come either "every 4th day or so," every other day, or every day except Sunday. We had no housekeeping services. The lead property manager told us that on instructions from the owner there were no housekeeping services during our stay. This is really no big deal, but the written policy needs to be made accurate. More important is that there was mold on the wall in the master bath, a few roaches, and a bunch of dead insects in a corner of the living room. One mosquito repellant device was low on oil. The other was empty. We bought the oil and a third device at the local store, so had little trouble with mosquitos indoors after that. (Pest control must be hard to keep up with on the island, so we know the property managers have a challenge with it.)
Finally, we got conjunctivitis there. Given exposure and time of onset, our doctor thinks it might have come from the pool. I hope not, because otherwise, the pool is great.
We'd gladly return to La Martiniere if some of the issues (mold, pest management) issues were taken care of and especially if we knew the pool was safe."

"We are a family of five (kids ages 11-15) and stayed at this condo over March Break 2015. The apartment is very clean with nice facilities. The main bedroom is very comfortable. The second bedroom has 2 single beds, but a mattress could fit in between so all 3 kids slept there comfortably. There was no issues with payment or security deposit which was refunded as we were checking out. The adjoining beach is at one end of the Orient beach and was very private with a short walk along the beach to a busier location with restaurants and water sports. We were very happy being on the quieter end. Overall we would not hesitate to come back. Martine was a delight and we would definitely recommend this property."

"My wife and I celebrated our honeymoon on St. Martin. We had a wonderful time at this beautiful villa. I am a chef in New York City. I planned on eating at great restaurants as well as cooking at the villa. The location was great for both. The restaurants of Grand Case were minutes from the villa. The kitchen had everything that any cook would need. They even had a few Guy Degrenne bowls that I use in my restaurant. The "Simply Market" was very close. They had not only the necessities, but also foie gras, wine/champagne, charcuterie, and fantastic cheeses. I went out of my way to get lobsters from "Mr. Lobster" (by the airport), whole fish from the Marigot fish market, and fresh head on shrimp in Simpson Bay.... but that's me. Orient Beach was just around the corner. We sailed on a catamaran moored at Anse Marcel just down the road. Lili showed us the villa and gave us the "lay of the land". She was incredibly helpful and friendly. We saw her around the island a few times. She would always ask if we were having a good time or had any questions. She was great. This was our first trip to St Martin. We are already thinking of who to invite next year when we book this villa again."

"I can't say how happy my wife and I were to have rented from Nick and Gloria. Nick and Gloria were excellent hosts who helped us get situated and made sure everything was good to go when we arrived and throughout our trip. The apartment was in great condition and a perfect base to launch from and return to for our daily explorations of the island. The location was perfect! We enjoyed the French side of St. Martin very much and the apartment was in a great spot for a quick drive to our favorite secluded beaches. It should be noted, if you stay here you will need to rent a car. But driving and parking on the island was very easy and we experienced no trouble and enjoyed the freedom a car provided. It's also perfect walking distant to the popular Orient Beach. If we return to St. Martin we will most definitely be staying with Nick and Gloria!"
