  • Paradise for New Years

"We had a blissful holiday over Christmas and New Year's in St Barths. Every bucket list should have New Year's in St Barths on it - it is amazing who you can meet here at that time!! Villa Skrutten is a perfect villa for a hassle free vacation. The rooms are very comfortable, and the living area is perfect for hanging out together with family or friends. The kitchen is also surprisingly well appointed. We have already booked to return this year!!"

  • Very Relaxing

"We recently returned from a week at this wonderful place and agreed that it was one of the most relaxing vacations yet. It truly is a place to sit back, relax and enjoy the simple life. The house is situated in a perfect location - a 5 min. drive to a wonderful bakery and market, close to everything but very peaceful and quiet. It is true that due to the size of the island, you are close to everything but unlike some other islands driving around here is pleasant with lovely views and gardens. We had our kids aged 9-12 with us and the entire island was safe, clean and breathtakingly beautiful. At night when you sit outside on the terrace you can hear the waves and watch the stars. The house has a lovely view of the sea. I agree with the previous review that the beach at the end on the driveway is warm, calm and good for snorkeling (We saw beautiful fish and turtles) but not really a beach to lay on. Also, the driveway (as most of the driveways seem to be) is quite steep - we needed it to work off the fabulous breads, pastries etc. Our favorite beach was Saline, where the kids never tired of the waves. There are beach chairs and a cooler that you can use which is great. The house is charming and has everything you need. A minor inconvenience was the lack of a washing machine for towels as we found that between the beach, pool and showers we were using a lot. A very pleasant lady came to clean in the mornings and replaced the towels a few times. The air conditioning and WIFI worked very well and it was very comfortable. The terrace and pool area were huge hits with the kids and very private. The pool was very clean and well cared for. I do think that the house may look slightly older than the photos suggest but we loved it. There are many newly built properties but this house is so comfortable and welcoming that we doubt we would have liked any one better. Matthew was wonderful to us and having met us at the Ferry, took us to the Airport to wait almost 2 hours for delayed bags that we were assured by Jet Blue would turn up at some point. He was never intrusive but we had his cell number and knew where to find him if we needed anything, which we didn't. Francois, the owner was extremely easy to deal with, helpful and willing to quickly answer any questions we had before the trip. The island of St. Barth was so much more than we expected with helpful, friendly people, beautiful breezes and incredible beaches. We hope to return one day soon."

  • Paradise Found!

"My family and our friends (a total party of 4 adults and 2 children) just returned from Villa La Recompense and we all agree that we feel like we had a vacation in paradise. Everything was perfect - the villa really feels like a lovely home away from home. We loved the little beach that is right nearby and has good snorkeling (and is very quiet) - and couldn't believe what a short walk it was. Some unexpected visitors to the property included turtles and lizards and brightly colored birds - which delighted everyone. We became regulars of the patisserie (which is fabulous). We also loved the little fish stand just down the road that sells fresh fish in the morning - we bought gorgeous strawberry grouper and some lobsters and had a feast! The kitchen is very well stocked and the whole home is so open and has such great views and lovely gardens that there are many places to either gather with friends for a glass of wine, relax with a book, play a game of clue . . . I couldn't more highly recommend a place to stay. We will definitely return and wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else."

  • Best Villa in ST BARTS plus Gluten FREE TIPS

"Villa Amour. This is what I think of as 1950's Hollywood beach house. Two whole sides of the house are glass doors that face the ocean and the pool and just to walk around is delightful. It is not a huge space and the inside of the villa is not for the person who is planning to lay on the couch and watch TV but the seating is arranged nicely. It is a true Island house (yet modern!). We are a family of 5, kids ages at 14, 10 and 12. We never even turned on the TV. You are just not inside but the villa is cleaned every day, super unique showers and sheets are even changed. AC great. Every morning I would go sit in the little gazebo and drink coffee, go and look for sea glass and shells on the beach in front of the house then I would drive to St Jean for croissants at Maya's to go or to Gustavia and both are truly 5 minute drives. You have to have a car but everywhere you could want to go to is a 5 minute drive. La Flammands Beach is beautiful and the perfect place to take kids to swim (BYO masks from US as they are SO expensive-we brought ours and it was perfect). St Jean is lovely, Shell Beach is like a true French Beach, like Cinquer Terre, but Flammands is THAT beach you see on postcards. Eat at Isle de France for lunch and they will let you enjoy chairs on the beach all day. Eat with your toes in the sand. We loved all our meals but prepare yourselves for the cost. Bit of a jaw drop the first day or so then you just go with it. Eden Rock was amazing. Bonito, amazing. Black Ginger- Outstanding, Eddies, delightful. All had GF men items. The grocery store I went to is Marche U at St Jean. Remember - it is FRENCH. 100%. They have some gluten free Scharr mostly, but in Gustavia there is an American Gourmet Market that has every gourmet food you've seen in any boutique in America! Fun just to look. Lots of GF items. Not cheap. AS far as GF, we ate all week in restaurants and it was fine. The food is so fancy, homemade and good it is almost GF by nature. If you arrive, as we did, after dark..there is a small little restaurant you can walk to from the villa. It is a local spot and the owners are very nice. But you can get a shrimp creole dish and your kids can get a hamburger and not have sticker shock the first night at 8 pm after travel. Go left out of the drive and it might be 4 houses down on the right? Yes- do rent this house! One small complaint- The master bed is hard as a rock. We switched rooms and made the kids sleep there! It was a divine get away."

St. Barthelemy Travel Tips

Seasons to Travel to St. Barthelemy Vacation Rentals

St. Barthelemy is a small horseshoe-shaped island located near St. Maarten in the Caribbean. It is an independent French territory that once was part of Guadeloupe. The island is more often simply referred to as St. Barts or St. Barths. With its location in the Caribbean, it enjoys a year-round warm tropical climate. The summer months can get humid and most rainfall occurs during this time of year. Typically, the thunderstorms are intense and short-lived. The sunshine often returns afterward and visitors can enjoy clear skies. Occasional tropical storms can blow through during the late summer months. While it is a destination that is visited all year long, the most popular travel season tends to be between December and April. Many people travel from Europe and North America to escape from colder northern climates. At this time of year, it is also less humid and the days are still enjoyably warm.

VIP Visitors to St. Barthelemy Villas

St. Barths has over the years built a reputation for being one of the elite Caribbean vacation destinations. Perhaps it is because it is fairly remote and not particularly well known that it remains a favorite hideaway for European royalty and Hollywood celebrities. Even relatively early on in its history, the island developed a talent for creating commerce which turned it into a relatively wealthy island compared to many of its Caribbean neighbors. The resorts and vacation homes are exclusive and stylish with hefty price tags to match. If it is a remote and private vacation destination that you are looking for, then it's well worth it.

Top Attractions near St. Barthelemy Resort Rentals

Some of St. Barth's main attractions are its beautiful beaches. The island is volcanic in nature which has resulted in a number of secluded coves and quiet beaches. Never far away are superb restaurants and beach bars where you can enjoy some local cuisine. The island is a duty-free tax haven and offers some superb shopping facilities. The main streets are lined with glamorous and designer boutiques showing off all kinds of fashions and accessories. It is somewhere where you can spoil yourself with that pair of designer shoes you have been eying for a while. If you would like to enjoy the azure blue ocean, you can arrange a charter on one of the many luxury yachts moored in the harbor. Cruising around the coastline, you can drop anchor near one of the reefs and spend the day snorkeling and swimming.

Getting to Caribbean Vacation Rentals in St. Barthelemy

St. Barths has a small airport with a tarmac runway but can only accommodate smaller commercial aircraft. Larger commercial aircraft such as air buses cannot land on the island. For international travelers, you will first travel to the neighboring island of the Dutch-governed St. Maarten. From there, you can get a quick 10-minute shuttle flight across to St. Barths. There are several airlines operating shuttle flights, and charter companies are also available for private charter flights. As an alternative routing, you can also fly via Guadeloupe. The regional flight takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, depending on which airline you choose. If charter flights are your preferred way of travel, you can look into routing via the islands of Antigua or San Juan on Puerto Rico. Once on the island, the easiest way to get around is by taxi. Car rentals and chauffeur-driven vehicles are also available. These can be arranged at the airport upon arrival or by contacting a local operator in advance.
