  • Our Winter Escape to Rhumb Runners

"We (a Medicare eligible but far from immobile couple) returned to our hill farm home in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region late Saturday night, Feb. 28, 2015 from a week at Rhumb Runners to find that the brutal, relentless winter we had escaped was still going strong. That week was a wonderful respite and Rhumb Runners, the Coral Bay area and the east end of St. John were what made it so. Perched high above a busy area next to Coral Bay harbor (up 5 switchbacks on a challenging, but paved, road, which our Jeep Wrangler from Cool Breeze rentals was able to handle when dry without resort to 4-wheel drive, absolutely required when the road was wet or in some other situations encountered), Rhumb Runners was ideal for us. Rhumb Runners is private, bright, clean, roomy, airy (no shortage of wind), with exceptional views of the harbor, east end and the BVI beyond, and a nice, very private pool. Chris and Mike were ideal hosts, took care of small problems (e.g., replacing a new, but non-functioning microwave) and interesting company to be with, although after introducing us to the place, they let us have our space to ourselves. Aside from occasional showers (mostly brief downpours in the middle of the night), the weather was good (much better than NH!!!). We had dinner each night at local restaurants, examples: best conch fritters in 18 years BVI and USVI experience at Miss Lucy’s; great grilled yellow snapper escobiche at Concordia; best seared tuna had anywhere at Aqua Bistro. We enjoyed the local beaches: Salt Pond (a hike downhill, uphill back), Round Bay (called Haulover south, uncrowded and steps from your car) and Vie’s at Hansen Bay in the east end (an uncrowded, sandy beach for which a donation of $2.50 per person was requested and happily provided). We also went to Waterlemon Bay beach (requires a level hike of maybe 2/3rds mile in and out, but what was said to be best snorkeling was too far out for swimmers of our level). Driving by other north shore beaches to the west we found that they mostly lacked sun early in the day and became very crowded later. So, to sum up, we had a great week and very much enjoyed our stay at Rhumb Runners, which we highly recommend."

  • Studio is cute

"We recommend this place to any people looking for a place to stay near the beach and san juan. The place felt like any home we visited in pr. Very comfy, and simple. Everything was easy to find around the studio, grocery store super max, theres food places churches chicken, bk, tacobell, walgreens. Its gated in and out the house for safety. Sounds weird but this is normal in Puerto Rico. Otto has been available when ever I have texted him but we havent had the need to talk since everything is good. So far no complaints. Economical place, very lucky i found it."

  • Caribbean Paradise

"Just returned from a week long stay at the fabulous Caribbean Castaway, what can I say, it was absolutely wonderful. We couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate two 80th birthdays and a 60th wedding anniversary. This home is generously equipped and located only a mile from the ferry dock in Red Hook. There is so much to do and see in the USVI but you would perfectly satisfied to spend your vacation relaxing in this spectacular home. Highly recommend!!!"

  • Gorgeous View

"We rented this condo a month before our arrival date. We decided to bring our daughter and her friend to celebrate her graduating nursing school. My husband and I have been all over the Abacos numerous times. I was very easy to deal with the owner. This condo has a spectacular view of the ocean, as well as the pool area. It is beautifully decorated with all of the amenities you would need. I hope to rent this condo again in the future!"

St. Kitts & Nevis Travel Tips

Getting to St. Kitts and Nevis Vacation Rentals

The primary airport for St. Kitts and Nevis is the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw International Airport that is located on the island of St. Kitts. The airport has the facilities to accommodate commercial jumbo jets that operate on long-haul flights. There are regular commercial flights from major European cities such as Amsterdam and Paris. There are also frequent flights from Miami and New York City among other North America destinations. There is only a smaller regional airport on Nevis and most flights route via St. Kitts. Charter and scheduled flights operate daily on smaller aircraft between the two islands. There are also water taxis and ferries that operate on regular daily schedules, weather permitting.

As an alternative routing to get to Nevis, you may also consider routing via St. Maarten or Antigua. Both these destinations have regular flights on to Nevis as well as ferries that operate between the islands on a regular basis. Once on the islands, it is relatively easy to get around. Taxis provide transport to and from the airport and your vacation destination. Car rental is widely available and easy to organize. If you want to do some independent exploring, this will be your best transport option.

Visitors to St. Kitts and Nevis Villas

St. Kitts and Nevis are two islands that attract nature lovers and those who appreciate natural surroundings. The islands have a wealth of cultural attractions for those who enjoy local arts and crafts, and bargaining for souvenirs at the local markets and small shops. The beaches with their beautiful sands are favorite places to laze and catch a suntan. Sun lovers can enjoy their own private share of paradise.

Things to See and Do at St. Kitts and Nevis Resort Rentals

The islands of St. Kitts and Nevis are favored with consistent sea breezes as well as the northeasterly trade winds. This makes it a popular sailing destination in the Caribbean. Both islands have many beautiful beaches. Some are secluded coves where you can enjoy a private picnic. Others are lined with beach bars and restaurants, providing refreshments and entertainment.

St. Kitts and Nevis have interesting histories as they were discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493. It is reported that he sailed past the island but did not land. More than a century later, a group of British settlers decided to make the island their new home. Ruins of fortified walls from these early settlements can still be seen on the islands today. There are several museums which detail the interesting history but perhaps the best way to experience the culture is to meander down the streets seeking out the old colonial buildings, shop at the local markets, and explore the landscapes on horseback. For the more energetic, you can go mountain biking through the interior. There are also several hiking routes and nature trails you can explore.

Best Season to Visit Caribbean Vacation Rentals in St. Kitts and Nevis

In any given month, you can enjoy warm temperatures on St. Kitts and Nevis. The islands enjoy a warm tropical climate with rain that occurs throughout the year. Rain showers are generally brief and blow over quickly. The exception is during hurricane season when tropical storms bring strong winds and heavy rain that can last for several days. Tropical storms can occur any time between June and November and seem to occur most frequently in August. Humidity is relatively low compared to other Caribbean islands which makes it a more ideal vacation destination. Aside from the stormy season, it is a destination that can be visited all year-round. In general, the popular time of year for tourists is between December and March.
