  • Amazing Historic Home on the Quaint Island of Salt Cay

"Our family stayed in the Brown House for 9 nights in July. We were a little unsure of staying somewhere so hot without air conditioning in the middle of the summer, but we were pleasantly surprised by how well the tradewinds blew through the home to keep things cool! It was actually very nice to spend the hottest part of the day in the lounge just feeling the breeze and reading a book. The house itself is very grand. It feels this way because the ceilings are at least 12 feet high and all painted white to help control the heat. It's has been beautifully restored to a historic charm with antique-looking furnishings and modern amenities. It brought our vacation to a whole new level. I enjoyed just walking around the patio, enjoying the views from every angle. The bedrooms were beautifully appointed and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is amazing...full-sized industrial fridge and freezer, stainless steel island and counters, and gas stovetop. We ate all of our meals on the oceanfront terrace, enjoying the views. I would strongly recommend renting a golf cart for at least a couple of days to explore all there is to see on Salt Cay. It's also nice to have in the heat even if just traveling a short distance. We were there primarily for scuba diving with SC Divers. We had some amazing dives. The dive master Richard was excellent...very safety conscience. All dives were computer and air dependent which meant we could stay down as long as the computers and air supply allowed. I think our longest dive was about 100 minutes! Our host was very accommodating and arranged for babysitting for our children while we were out. She allowed the children to go with the babysitter to another property she manages, Pirate's Hideaway, to use the beautiful pool there. As another bonus, we discovered our babysitter (Flor) is a masseuse, and we each had hour massages right on our own patio for very reasonable price! Our host also arranged to have our groceries in stock when we arrived and checked in several times through our stay to make sure everything was going well, offering help if needed."

  • Now THIS is a beach vacation!

"My husband and I celebrated our two-year anniversary in this fine condo, and we have begun dreaming of our TCI retirement :) We stayed for one week, and experienced excellent weather (mid 80's, high humidity) and rain only one evening, culminating in a spectular thunderstorm. The draw of this location is the beach - WOW - insane shades of turquoise, powdery sand, and even the locals who walked the shore to offer excursions were relaxed and non-obtrusive. We enjoyed the condo, and appreciated the utensils and kitchen supplies for guest use (note: bed is slightly firm, but not uncomfortable). For check-in, we recommend printing a copy of your reservation and telling staff that you booked a private condo - this helped them find our reservation. The hotel amenities are very nice for the price of this condo - comfortable chairs by pool and beach, polite staff, small but working gym, and efficient bartenders (always a plus!) Yes, prices are elevated everywhere, but we purchased supplies from the IGA and brought a small coolor of beers and sandwiches/snacks every day, along with yogurt and microwavable egg sandwiches for breakfast, and that helped us maximize our budget for the delicious, pricey dinners out. We dined at Mango Reef a few times - breakfast is solid, fairly priced, as is lunch (fish tacos!) and our dinner choices of grilled fish and chicken in coconut curry were winners, along with the key lime tart. We highly recommend renting a car from Avis to travel the island (driving on the left is simple) and eat out (Bella Luna is the BEST! Lobster pasta...mmm) Coco Bistro is lovely too, and Somewhere Cafe has live music and the best fish tacos you will ever eat in your life. Locals everywhere are very friendly in a genuine way, and attending the Thursday night Fish Fry at Bight Beach is a fun time without the usual pressure to spend every last dollar. This is a beautiful country, very family friendly, and while there are signs of development, it seems the Belongers have a firm grasp on how to preserve their uniqueness while welcoming those of us eager to experience it. Don't hesitate to see for yourself :)"

  • Great bungalow

"My boyfriend & I stayed at the cottage for a week. The house is small but perfectly accommodates two (great for a couple's getaway). Pros: - Centrally located--a short drive from everything on the island - Screened-in porch with a table and chairs--perfect for evening drinks and meals - Full kitchen, so you can save $ by eating in - On a canal--the dock has a water trampoline and kayaks that you can use for free - There is a shed that has bikes, fishing poles, beach chairs and umbrellas, and snorkel gear for you to use whenever you want - Washer/dryer and clothesline - Air conditioning unit works well and cools the entire space very quickly (we only used it when we slept) Cons: - Bathroom is nice/a good size, but the shower stall is unbearably small; you can't step out of the water to wash yourself, shave your legs, etc. - Ants in the kitchen, though if you've vacationed/lived anywhere else tropical, you know that's kind of unavoidable (they were super tiny and mostly not bothersome, unlike some other places we've been where they are monstrous and terrifying haha) - The guest cottage is (obviously) right behind the main house, and the curtains are pretty sheer. We're not very modest, but wondered on multiple occasions whether the people in the main house could see into the bungalow when we got out of the shower/were getting dressed (probably) - You share everything in the shed with the main house--there were 2 couples staying there while we were in the guest cottage, and on multiple occasions, they took all the beach chairs and umbrellas. (We brought our own snorkel gear, but wouldn't have gotten to use it very often if we were sharing it with them--I think they took it every day) - There's no table/chairs inside, so you have to eat all meals outside--a few times after getting back from a long, hot day, we wished we could eat inside Tips: - Grace Bay is only minutes away and hands down the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. You can snorkel right off the beach and it was virtually deserted almost every time we went - There's a large grocery store close by (IGA I think), but if you stop at one of the smaller stores (there's one on the way to Taylor Bay/Sunset Beach) a lot of the prices are much lower - Our one dining "must do": Las Brisas; the view & food were ridiculous - DEFINITELY need a car; Avis is cheap - Go to the conch museum! - Long Beach is also a must-see Definitely recommend staying here! So worth the (low low) price!"

  • Favorite trip ever!

"We stayed for a week at this house in Long Bay on our first trip to the Turks. The house was spotless and beautiful, with all the amenities we would need. There was suggestions of places to go and eat in an organized notebook that welcomed us. The house is private, has a pool and also has ocean views which makes this place perfect for families. The house is also minutes away from beautiful beaches and restaurants so we could explore all that Turks has to offer. This was our best vacation ever! I cannot wait to go again!"
