Hornblower on the Beach -- A Sugar Beach Condo for Beach Lovers
"We have been back three times to St. Croix. We stay at this condo each time and it's very nice. The beach is all ours and never has more than a few people at any one time. This condo steps right onto the sand and is right in front of the ocean. Not all condos have this access. The enclosed patio is secure and you will spend a lot of time here! The breeze off of the ocean is perfect and you can sleep with the doors open at night and hear the ocean. The King size beds are lovely with a very high quality mattress and the pillows are so nice! I want to buy some for my house! Staff is very nice and helpful and will check in with you to see what you may need when you arrive. The pool is so clean and beautiful. The condo association cleans the beach up daily. Snorkeling area is right there! With a reef just beyond for scuba diving. A nice grocery store, Food Town, is a very short distance to this condo, as well as some great restaurants on the North Shore. Downtown Christiansted is a short ride."

"We stayed in this condo for 3 weeks. It's perfect for a couple. In theory two more persons could sleep on the convertible sofa, but it would be crowded in my opinion.
The owner is very responsive to questions and issues (of which we had a couple of minor ones). The condo was clean when we arrived. My wife and I are tall, so the KING bed was much appreciated.
Some general notes:
Roads on St. Croix can be very curvy and challenging after dark. However, the condo's location on the east end is close enough to Christiansted that we felt comfortable driving there after dark. Places you can walk to include: Cheeseburgers in America's Paradise (next to the condo complex), Shoreline at Chaney Bay, and Tamarind Bay (with two restaurants - Deep End and Galleon). Beyond that, you'll need a car.
The trip from the airport is fairly straightforward. The owner gave me a suggested route which I studied on-line for orientation. The owner also sent us a list of recommended car rental companies. We used an independent car rental (Skyline). They met us at the airport with the car. UNIQUELY IN THE US, VIRGIN ISLANDS DRIVE ON THE LEFT. However, cars do not have the driver's wheel on the right (as they normally would in left side driving countries). It's unlikely you'll need to pass anyone, so having the wheel on the left is not a major problem.
We're not beach people, but I noticed that nearby Chaney Bay is a nice beach open to non-residents - be polite and buy something from their restaurant while using their beach.
Various internet postings suggest that St. Croix has a problem with robberies, burglaries, etc. We encountered no such issues. Perhaps in high season, and when a cruise ship is calling, there might be more opportunistic crime against visitors. We live in a large US city, so we're used to common crime avoidance habits (e.g.: be aware of your surroundings, don't leave valuables visible, etc.). These precautions should be observed in St. Croix as anywhere.
Talk to locals about restaurants. Many open air places that appear to be snack bars actually have full menus with various cuisines.
We would book this condo again!"

It was so nice to have a home away from home, thank you!
"My family recently took a 2 week trip to St Croix and it was such a great time. We were very comfortable thanks to this beautiful condo which was right off the beach. Terry was helpful and funny! We had all the comforts from home. Everything was well taken care of and clean. The pool was beautiful. The wifi worked great and the 2 beds were comfortable. Many good restaurants on the island but several nights we just cooked meals at the condo. I felt safe the whole time I was there. I totally recommend going with this Sea Escape condo at Pelican Cove, and I'm looking forward to bringing my family back another year."

"We visited St. Croix under the premise that we may be moving there soon so we rented this condo to experience reality as closely as possible. We were able to easily cook meals in the unit as there were plenty of cookware items and utensils. The refrigerator is a good size. We had lots of bottles of water. We initially shopped at Pueblo which I would not recommend to anyone. We found that Plaza Extra is a much better store overall... Better quality food, better quality everything.
The furniture in the condo was comfortable and a/c was welcomed as we aren't used to the heat and humidity. We have a 1 year old and although I wouldn't recommend this place for little ones it worked well for us. My biggest critism is that the beach along in this area has a tremendous amount of sea grass and sea urchins so you really have to watch out if your going to go out in the shallow water. Some of the beaches also have this issue including Cane Bay, so it's not exclusive to this area.
The restaurant next to the condo is great. Good drinks and excellent food. It pulls a lot of people who aren't staying around the area so we know the food is good. The pool is next to the restaurant and is one of the more impressive pools I've seen with a nice Hot Tub which was very hot.
We always felt like we were in a safe and nice complex. There is a security guard there everyday/night. The grounds are very well kept and well lit up at night. And there was plenty of parking for our rental car.
We had a very nice time and hope to spend more time in the USVI in the future."
