  • Escaped for a while.....

"My family,(my husband myself, and our late teen aged children) and I have just returned from a week in St. Croix--college and high school Spring Break. We had an amazing week, the weather was wonderful and the pace of life was great! One of the very best things about being back on St. Croix was staying at Gentle Winds. The complex was very well kept, the neighbors were friendly and helpful, but not intrusive, the beach was beautiful, quiet and not crowded even once during the week, the pool and snack bar only added to the water front experience, and the gated community made us feel completely safe. I cannot think of one negative thing about Gentle Winds. We stayed in Unit D6 and were very comfortable there. The unit was as described and as pictured on the VRBO website. We found everything we expected and more. We felt like guests in a home rather than vactioners at generic resort. Everything we needed was there from the minute we arrived. I was told that the house would have staples and a few things to get us stated, and it did. It was really great to walk in, open the refrigerator and find a cold bolttle of water! Location, Location, Location....Gentle Winds is well situated on the island. It was about a 20 minute trip to Christianstead were we shopped, dined, and departed for our snorkeling trip to Buck Island. It was also just about 25 minutes to Frederickstead. We didn't have far to drive to visit the Botanical Gardens, the Cruzan Rum factory or anything else we wanted to do. It was just about perfect. As for the unit within the complex, I loved that location, too. Being on top of the hill allowed for wonderful breezes and great views. Even from the front deck at the unit, which faced away from the water, the view of the hills at night was great. Maybe my favorite place for a night cap :), if not my favorite a close second to the hammock on the beach! I had never used VRBO to rent a vacation property before. I was a bit uncertain, but working with Larry and Pat was great. Communication was clear, easy, and prompt right down to the e-mail we received after the vacation welcoming us back home and letting us know that the security deposit check was in the mail. Overall, an A+ experience!! I would reccommed VRBO to anyone who asked, and would happily and whole heartedly reccommend a week at Gentle Winds and Unit D6. Thanks Larry and Pat for your part in making our week amazing, relaxing, and better than we imagined."

  • Location, POOL, Comfy!

"My boyfriend and I spent 16 nights at the villa and absolutely LOVED it! The location is excellent, East End of the island is definitely the area you want to stay in. The villa is only a few miles from Christiansted but the roads all over the island are curvey, slow and not well kept-up so walking and/or biking is not really an option. You definitely need a car ANYWHERE you stay on the island in order to see everything. The villa itself is clean, nice, very cozy and comfortable. The only issues we found were the stove and microwave are pretty outdated, we cooked a lot of our meals so this was of importance to us. Also the neighbors upstairs were loud on occasion, but if you are used to people walking above you then you will have no problems! It was definitely quieter than any hotel would have been! It was WONDEFUL having the pool right outside the back door! On days where we didnt want to beach it we spent our time out there, it was also a very nice spot to stargaze at night! Everything was very clean and well-kept, and the full-time residents were very pleasant and friendly. I highly recommend this villa for your visit to St. Croix, especially for the price! It was a great deal and we had an amazing time in such a beautiful place. We cannot wait to go back!"

  • perfect in every way

"My boyfriend and I were looking for a short getaway from our busy lives. We found this villa last minute and worked with Anne to sercure the villa. She was wonderful to work with and set up a greeter to meet us at the airport and escort us. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the privacy, beauty and attention to detail. I can't say enough about the accommodations and the beautiful furnishings. The views and breezes are amazing. We were there at one of the hottest months of the year and only used the ac in the bedroom at night to cool our bodies from full days of playing in the sun. The location is great. Be sure to rent a car so you an explore the island!! We ate in almost every night and the kitchen is so well stocked with everything you could possibly need. My boyfriend says the grill is the nicest he has ever cooked on. Every need we had was met and we loved the place so much, we called it our dream home!!! Perfect for a couple or two as bedrooms and bathrooms are completely independent of each other. The pool is amazing and the view at night are stunning!!! Thank you Anne and Charles for all your hard work !!!! We will be back!!!!!!!"

  • Incredible Stay

"The house was absolutely perfect - better than described. The views and constant breeze are wonderful. James was really nice - brought us some really good (and interesting) fruits. We would have been happy to stay on the porch all week. We had four kids (two teenagers) and they all had a blast. We didn't spend much time at Divi (the resort / casino) but it is very nice - just not our thing. The folks there are really nice and helpful though - be sure to go to the gift shop. The lady there has lived on the island 20 or so years and had tons of maps, good advice, etc.. The restaurant at the resort is very good but expensive - plan on that one night. The beach at Divi is nice - just right across the street, but we tried a different beach every day. You really have to rent a car to see the island. Go ahead and have a rental waiting at the airport. I was really stressed about that but it's really easy (same as everywhere else). The driving takes a little getting used to but not big deal (opposite side but cars are same as US). The island, as small as it is, has three distinct climates (rainforest, grassland / interior, and desert). That was really neat - the distinct character of each "region". All the beaches are really cool and have their own character. We spent the most time at Cane Bay - absolutely beautiful (snorkeled, scuba, and just hung out). Cane Bay is near the rain forest - had a couple of short torrential down pours that we actually enjoyed. Be prepared - a storm can move in quickly and disappear just as quickly but it's refreshing. The folks at the dive shop were really nice and helpful. Shoy beach was our favorite - great snorkeling and swimming is incredible. Point Udall was cool. Need to spend a day in Christiansted in the shops and there are some good resturants along the docks. The beaches at Frederiksted were nice, but didn't really like the vibe there - not terrible, just not our favorite. Need to go the Cruzan distillery - stop by the hospitality bar and hang out and get a couple of six packs to go. For a couple of bucks they will pack up to six bottles in a cardboard container wrapped in bubble wrap / sealed, etc. and check it at the airport for free. Think you can have one per person so brought back a bunch. The cheapest rum you'll ever find. You have to try La Reine's Chicken Shack - music and great island food - cool little town. We will definitely be back. Loved it and didn't want to come home."
