  • A great private getaway

"Our family really enjoyed staying in this private house at the end, end, end of the road! Everything was clean and maintained well. I've stayed in places on St. John that had a more commanding view because they were higher up the mountain, but this spot is tranquil and still offered a picturesque place to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning on the second-floor deck. That deck is also a nice place to do some stargazing while listening to frogs and other night creatures. There are ruins right in your backyard, if you're willing to climb a bit, but they are totally worth the effort. This house provided plenty of room for a family of four -- we had the parents upstairs, one kid on the futon in the den and another on the pull-out couch. Having two bathrooms was nice, although note there's only one really useful shower. The outdoor shower provides very little privacy; more appropriate for a romantic getaway than a family vacation! :) The outdoor shower is very handy for just rinsing off after a day of hiking or at the beach if you were to do so while still in a swimsuit. Very nice kitchen amenities and an outdoor grill helped for some less-expensive meals cooked at home for a couple of nights. Despite very warm and humid weather, we never felt like we needed air conditioning thanks to the ceiling fans and comfortable breezes coming in the open doors and windows. Be prepared for visiting donkeys and, of course, the ever-present roosters make for some early mornings on the island. But then, you might as well get going early anyway since there is so much to do on St. John. The location was nice and secluded without being too far away from Coral Bay so you have relatively easy access to "town." Once you're stocked up on supplies, the owners provide plenty of coolers, beach towels and other things to help you enjoy your day at the beach or out hiking. While it's nice to be disconnected, we also appreciated the WiFi that was provided so we could upload and back up the many photos we were taking. All-in-all, a great place to call home for awhile. If we returned as a family again, this would be a place we would check on for availability."

  • A slice of Heaven

"20th trip to St. John and for the last several years have settled on the Coral Bay side of the island, specifically in Mamey Peak. Bay Rum Breeze was simply put "perfect" in every way. Spacious, comfortable, very well appointed kitchen, and that incredible view from every room from early morning to late evening, the view that just keeps on giving! Not to mention the lovely breezes high up on the mountain that keeps the little pesky flying critters away. We spent more time at the villa than away from the villa this trip, and the reason was that Bay Rum Breeze just felt so right for us. Loved every second spent there! Highly recommend it!"

  • Great family vacation rental

"Villa Colorado was a great rental house! The view from the upper balcony was always gorgeous. Villa Colorado is set up with four separate master suites which worked wonderfully for our family (3 adult children and parent). Everyone had their own space and still had a great area to enjoy together. The house would also work great for several couples traveling together. We cooked at the house most nights but the island resturants were delicious as well. The beaches were AMAZING and only a short drive from the villa. I would recommend getting a good rental car and exploring this beautiful island. Villa Colorado was a perfect home away from home!"

  • Wonderful place-Convenient, luxurious & relaxing!

"This is a great villa and you won't be disappointed if you rent it. My kids (teenagers) and I spent a week here and it was just right. James was very accommodating to our Thursday-Thursday schedule, and also rented us a sturdy 4-wheel drive car at a discounted rate. We took a cab from the airport in St. Thomas to Red Hook, caught the ferry over and James picked us up at the dock. He filled us on some good things to do while taking us straight to the house, only 10 min from the dock. The house has a nice main living area, great AV set-up, a kitchen with everything we needed and a wonderful westward view of Cruz Bay. It was very convenient to the town, as well as to highway 104 which goes right up to the centerline road, so it was quick to get to anywhere on the island. Each bedroom had a bathroom and the four of us were very comfortable. AC was available but with the breeze we never needed it. Many of the other reviews of other properties I read mentioned chickens and donkeys making all sorts of noise early in the morning, but I never heard them here. The only sounds were the occasional dog in the distance or a horn from a truck rounding the nearby bend in the road. The pool and hot tub were terrific, and great to return to after a day at the beach. The house had beach towels, beach chairs, coolers and a basket full of information brochures and magazines. Wi-fi was fast and worked everywhere in the house and around the pool. We typically would start the day with a run down the back roads, checking out the great views, followed by a jump in the pool, and then enjoying a smoothie from the blender as we sat on the porch. We then would set off on the days adventure. Upon return, we would relax in the hot tub before cooking our dinner or going out and then come home to watch some of their supplied movies or on Dish TV. Definitely consider eating in occasionally. There is a market about 5 min away from the property, but be prepared for sticker shock on food items in St. John. Everything except chicken and plantains is 2-3 times what you are probably used to paying, but it's still far cheaper than eating out. If I had to think of a negative on the property it would be that we did get some mosquitos occasionally in the house despite our best efforts, but that was only one 1-2 days when the wind was down. James was very responsive and took us back to the ferry right on time. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a relaxing week in St. John."
