  • Unforgettable!

"Not much to add from the other reviews other than it's hard to think of a way to improve on this villa. The view is jaw-dropping - high enough to see amazing sunrises over St John east end and Norman Island, close enough to Coral Harbor to see Biff or Jimmy getting ready to sail. And the villa faces directly down the Sir Francis Drake Channel, with Tortola to the left, and Norman, Peter and cays to the right, Virgin Gorda on the horizon. The villa is very comfortable, three comfortable air-conditioned bedrooms, one up and two down, each with private bath, plus fantastic great room, gourmet well-appointed kitchen and deluxe gas grill outside. The two full-length-of-the-house porches are beautifully furnished and each is fully screened in case of bugs, but at 600 feet elevation with constant breeze, there aren't many bugs. We loved the pool deck complete with outdoor shower, 6-person soaking spa and what must be the largest pool on the island. You must have 4-wheel drive and the drive up and down the hill is more exciting than an amusement park ride, but that can be said of most villas on the island. The best part about this perfect villa is that it's on St. John, and I can't imagine a more beautiful tropical island anyplace - we visited and snorkeled 13 separate beaches in 6 days - favorites were Salt Pond, Little Lameshur and Groutpan. We loved the relaxed, laid-back style in Coral Bay, getting to know some of the "colorful" local folks - we much preferred this side to the more uppity Cruz Bay side. Fantastic villa and unforgettable stay at Almost Heaven in America's Paradise."

"The view was outstanding! Pictures don't capture the experience fully. We enjoyed the house and found everything we needed for a wonderful week. We were met and led to the property. Everything was clean and well supplied. The location was great for visiting all parts of the island. Four wheel drive was really good! We hope to return and soak up the view again. Some of our favorites: smoothies from the top of Bordeaux Mountain, Miss Lucy's, and Driftwood Dave's."

  • Wonderfull Vacation

"I am writing this letter because after reading, for lack of a better word a strange review, that as it turns out to be totally wrong about Villa Bordeaux. I am compelled to write about my experience at what I call the home on the mountaintop. Villa Bordeaux is the most relaxing place I have stayed in the last 27 years that I have been visiting St John. Although, the house is well off the beaten track and you need a 4-Wheel drive and a little skill at driving the mountainous roads of St John on the left hand side, it is well worth it. It is so peaceful, you never even hear a human voice unless it is one of your own party. It was so nice to come back after a wonderful day at the beach and enjoy the outdoor shower with all hot water you need. We prepared many great dinners and loved to watch the colors of sunset turn into the night with the symphony of song of the forest (owls, peacocks, frogs and crickets). The deck was our favorite, with a beautiful view and a great place to read, play cards, dine or just relax. We slept like babies in the master bedroom with a very comfortable bed and the softest duvee in the world with the night sounds lulling us away. One of the things that we liked best about the place was that it is close to the Coral bay side of St John, which I now know has some of the best beaches on island that are away from the crowds during high season (thanks to the info from the manager). The house had everything I was looking for, a view of the forest and ocean, extremely quiet and comfortable, well stocked and a very nice layout. We were looking to relax away from the trials of the city and found it here. We are planning to be repeat guests and look forward to our next visit. Sincerely, Wendy B"

  • Better Than Our Dreams

"What we read about in the description and reviews and saw in pics when choosing to book this property proved to be accurate, although in reality not fully representative of our experience, which turned out to be far better than our expectations. When you first see the panoramic view of the islands and sea from this mountain side, it takes your breath away. And the great thing is that the thrill of that view never diminishes because it is ever changing in some way, and you get a slightly different perspective from the deck, or the living area, the bedroom, and even the shower. The living space is immaculate, nicely furnished, and a very comfortable bed invites restful sleep, etc. Plus there are so many special touches such as fresh flowers, original art, refreshments and treats upon arrival that make this a wonderfully welcoming place. We been to St. John 7 or 8 times now, and have always preferred staying on the Coral Bay end of the island, but this spot on the mountain above Coral Bay was not only the most beautiful and comfortable of the accommodations that we've had, but turned out really to be the most convenient for getting to all the beaches where we wanted to snorkel, and to the nice mix of restaurants that are there. After our first trip up the mountain road led by our host, we soon realized that we made the right choice. Our host and hostess, who are the property owners and were in the upstairs section, surely must be counted among the most gracious, knowledgeable, helpful, and interesting folk that you could ever hope to meet. While careful to always respect our privacy and solitude, they were quick to respond to any of our requests and questions. And when a couple of unexpected medical issues developed for us, it was especially reassuring to have their support and suggestions which salvaged what would otherwise have been frustrating and disappointing intrusions into our days in paradise. All in all, our experience in this special place was better than we could have dreamed it could be, and fond memories of it will fill our actual dreams for many days and night to come."
