  • Convenient Location with Spectacular View

"We just came home from a week at Heavenly Villa and I'm ready to return! Booking was easy. I communicated directly with the owner and payment was easily made through PayPal, which I always appreciate because of the buyer protection. The villa sits at the top, and I mean top, of a hill overlooking several bays including Cruz Bay. The views at all times of the day or night are beyond description. The pictures are accurate! The villa itself is simply furnished, but has EVERYTHING you will need, including several beach towels, beach chairs, even snorkel fins. The villa was very clean upon our arrival. The kitchen is fully equipped (including a new dishwasher) but who wants to cook? You are within a short drive to Cruz Bay and there are several restaurants recommended in the owner's guide in the villa. I think we tried them all and were never disappointed. Crandall on St. John handles all the arrangements and I cannot speak more highly of them. They communicated with us and made easy arrangements to meet us at the ferry dock. The Internet was down when we first arrived and I called them. They tracked the problem down to an Internet outage on the entire end of the island, and let us know so we at least knew it wasn't our equipment. We were also there to experience Tropical Storm Bertha and they checked on us both before and after and assisted with moving porch furniture and undoing the storm shutters. They also called to alert us to a temporary power outage prior to the event. If you have a Verizon cell phone, I would suggest leaving it at home and making arrangements to get a pre-paid AT&T phone. Verizon coverage was spotty at best and the roaming charges add up in a hurry. The WiFi was great for data downloads though. One last thing about Crandall...they made arrangements for our Jeep rental with Best Car Rental...we got a great rate and they let you park there in the evenings if you are getting dinner in town...a short walk down the hill. We've been to St. John four times now and we have yet to visit all of the beaches. If you dive, Low Key Watersports is a great operator. Good rental equipment, excellent guided dives in fairly shallow water so you will get lots of bottom time. I would recommend driving to Caneel Bay. They will allow you to park for $20, but if you spend $20 on the property it's waived. Walk to Honeymoon Bay where you can rent beach chairs, etc... Have lunch on the main property if you don't mind paying $30 for a salad:)."

  • Just What We Were Looking For

"We stayed at New Moon for one week in June. (our first trip without the kids in a while) The cottage was everything we wanted for a getaway. It was fully stocked with everything we needed. I mean, c'mon, they even had a french press for coffee snobs like me. While it isn't really secluded, the vegetation and landscape make it feel like it is. On our arrival, the place was spotless. We rented one of the Jeeps that they had, and Catherine made sure someone was there to pick us up at the ferry dock. He took us to the grocery store in Cruz Bay and then on to the cottage. Catherine was always available to answer any questions we had and to make sure that we got back to the ferry on time on our departure day. We really appreciated how she made us feel at home. I'm an island guy. In fact, someday soon I hope to be one of the locals that you meet in Skinny Legs. When we do meet, feel free to ask me for recommendations on things to do and places to eat. I'll talk your ear off. St John is one of my favorite places. While we were there my wife spent every day in the water with me, despite Jaws having scarred her for life where the ocean is concerned. We saw something new below the surface every day. I love the pace and natural beauty of the island. It was great to come back to the cottage at the end of the day and watch the twilight descend on the valley and the bay. You just can't beat falling asleep with the sea breezes rustling the curtains. Coral Bay is on the quiet side of a quiet island. Nothing is really all that far away from you though. The beaches on the east end and southern side are really close and on some days you'll have them virtually all to yourself. As far as food goes, Miss Lucy's, Oasis, and Skinny Legs all offer good food at reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Pickles Deli has a good breakfast. Overall, it's great place to make your own adventure."

  • A gem!

"We have rented many times through VRBO. On the Rocks is by far the best-stocked rental ever. As others have said, you do NOT need to bring anything but your clothes and some toiletries with you. Margaret was so easy to work with. She made arranging this rental a breeze. She even set up our jeep rental for us, met us at the ferry and gave us a quick orienting tour of Cruz Bay. She was so helpful, non-intrusive, warm and friendly. We enjoyed listening to her stories and suggestions. The kitchen is so well stocked-including plastic containers, many herbs and spices, plenty of pots and utensils. And, I highly recommend you check out what items are already there before you get anything from the grocery store. Margaret even had a nice basket of snack items for us. The bedding and towels are good--and there are PLENTY of towels. Lots of snorkel gear. Plenty of books. You name it, she's already got it. We enjoyed snorkeling right from the beach there-and saw plenty-including sting rays. The pool is such a nice extra. We had many dinners at the house-used the gas grill and ate out next to the pool. She has journals there with many years of remarks from many renters--so many come back year after year. It is a great location-if you want to be close enough to 'town' but also not 'surrounded' by crowds."

  • Great Cottage!

"This was our third stay at Periwinkle cottage and as with previous visits, our stay was unbelievable. The cottage has all the amenities that you would want in a St. John rental. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you'd need to cook a meal and there is everything you would need for the beach (chairs, coolers, etc.). The screened in porch on the top level is great for looking out over coral bay anytime, whether it be coffee in the morning or while having dinner at night. The bedrooms on the lower level are comfortable and there is AC in one of them. Our favorite part of the villa is the pool deck, which also has a hot tub which is perfect to relax in after a day of snorkeling and beaching it. My wife especially loves the cottage feel of the villa and the amazing view of all of the sailboats in coral bay. The ride up to the villa is a little bumpy, but you get used to it after a couple times up. The ride up to the villa also goes by love city mart, which I think has the best food/drink prices on the island and is a convenient stop after spending the day exploring St John. John, the owner, is very responsive and was great to deal with in booking and planning our trip. Lastly, I've done a lot of research of villas on St. John and Periwinkle cottage has all the amenities that you would want and is a good value compared to similar rentals. Thanks to John and his family for opening up their home to us and we can't wait to come back."
