  • AMAZING!!

"Just got back from a great stay at Sweet Winds. The pictures don't do this place justice, the house is beyond perfect. The set up was great for two couples, we had a lot of privacy. The view of Hurricane Hole is amazing. Nina lives right next door and was always around if we had any questions. We love Nina! The house was stocked with everything we could possibly need. The beach chairs could be upgraded, but that's about the only complaint any of us had. The house is in a nice and quiet spot, she has a record player and a tons of records, so it was fun to blast music and not have to worry about bothering anyone. There place doesn't have an air conditioner, but you don't need it. Each room has a big screen door that you can keep open, and because of the wind there were NO bugs at all. The house is surrounded by a big deck which was great to hang out in either day or night. I can't wait to book my stay for next year at Sweet Winds!!!"

  • Go and Enjoy

"Beautiful and functional house. The views from the deck and the living room are spectacular. Great bathrooms, 3 of the 4 have 2 sinks. This was the best equipped kitchen we've ever rented, with all the equipment you may need and as many spices as we have in our home. Food prices in the local groceries are high though ($13 for a jar of organic tomato sauce). Beautiful garden surrounding the house though unfortunately the fruit wasn't ripe at this time of the year. Some of us brought snorkeling gear and the rest used what was at the house. The owner was quite responsive to all our pre trip questions and called to see how we were doing. I can think of no reason not to rent this house. FYI - Coral Bay is the quieter side of the island. There are some nice beaches within a 10-15 minute drive. Snorkeling is ok but the coral reef has suffered since we were last on St. John 7 years ago. By all means climb Ram's Head for beautiful views but go shortly after sun rise as it get's hot quickly. Visit Drunk Bay for the locals rock sculpture. If you've not been to St. John be ready for steep and curvy roads. You can get by with a car but a jeep is better. There are "free range" donkeys, goats and chickens. You'll enjoy the pelicans diving into a foot of water, the magnificent frigates overhead and the occasional booby. GO!"

  • Best Family Vacation We've Ever Had!

"My wife and I usually take our three children to Destin, FL for a family summer vacation. We've done this for a while and wanted to try something a bit more exotic and found Mill Ridge in St. John. Now I was a bit hesitant to go to VI off-season and during the middle of the summer but we took a chance and landed in St. Thomas on July 5th. The owners Jason and Hilarie were fantastic, they helped us with all the logistics (ground/sea transportation, extra gear for kids, planning..etc). Everything went off without a hitch, took the ferry from Red Hook, rented a small SUV in town and headed off across the island. The property, Mill Ridge, is on the eastern side of the island overlooking Coral Bay and far removed from Cruz Bay. At first I admit it I looked upon this as an inconvenience being on other side of the island away from all the “action” but my family and I quickly realized this was a blessing in disguise. By day two we had COMPLETELY unplugged and really enjoying our slow and wonderfully relaxing pace. The island was surprisingly easy to get around on with our rental car. Each day we’d wake up, pick one of the island’s world famous beaches, load of the car and head out for the day. It was so easy to find our own private little section of paradise and we had a great time, lounging, snorkeling and other activities. The owners also gave us some great recommendations of day trips we could try and they were fantastic. We went out on a boat one day, took a day trip to the British VI’s and spent a day swimming with wild sea turtles. It was really great to see my children have the time of their lives exploring the island and waters and seeing wildlife and landscapes they’ve never experienced before. I've never seen my kids so uninterested in TV or their Ipads before. We spent the whole week together and really connected in this special place. There is a great little private pool on the property and deck overlooking Coral Bay where we spent most of our time when not out beaching or exploring. With small children I felt very safe having a pool right there as the patio is enclosed and has solid locking mechanisms on the two gates. If you are looking for a great, relaxing, unplugged vacation with your family, Mill Ridge is the place. It was by far the best family vacation we have ever had. If you get the chance to stay at Mill Ridge, I highly recommend it and hope to bring my family back sometime in the near future."

  • A great private getaway

"Our family really enjoyed staying in this private house at the end, end, end of the road! Everything was clean and maintained well. I've stayed in places on St. John that had a more commanding view because they were higher up the mountain, but this spot is tranquil and still offered a picturesque place to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning on the second-floor deck. That deck is also a nice place to do some stargazing while listening to frogs and other night creatures. There are ruins right in your backyard, if you're willing to climb a bit, but they are totally worth the effort. This house provided plenty of room for a family of four -- we had the parents upstairs, one kid on the futon in the den and another on the pull-out couch. Having two bathrooms was nice, although note there's only one really useful shower. The outdoor shower provides very little privacy; more appropriate for a romantic getaway than a family vacation! :) The outdoor shower is very handy for just rinsing off after a day of hiking or at the beach if you were to do so while still in a swimsuit. Very nice kitchen amenities and an outdoor grill helped for some less-expensive meals cooked at home for a couple of nights. Despite very warm and humid weather, we never felt like we needed air conditioning thanks to the ceiling fans and comfortable breezes coming in the open doors and windows. Be prepared for visiting donkeys and, of course, the ever-present roosters make for some early mornings on the island. But then, you might as well get going early anyway since there is so much to do on St. John. The location was nice and secluded without being too far away from Coral Bay so you have relatively easy access to "town." Once you're stocked up on supplies, the owners provide plenty of coolers, beach towels and other things to help you enjoy your day at the beach or out hiking. While it's nice to be disconnected, we also appreciated the WiFi that was provided so we could upload and back up the many photos we were taking. All-in-all, a great place to call home for awhile. If we returned as a family again, this would be a place we would check on for availability."
