  • Wonderful Week at Rhumb Runners and St John!

"The villa was exactly as described and pictured and suited our family of 4 perfectly. In addition, the villa was very clean and well maintained. The owners were very quick to answer all of my emails and questions about both the villa and St John, helping to make our stay extra special. The drive up the driveway was a challenge but well worth the effort as the villa does indeed have magnificent views and strong breezes. We stayed at Rhumb Runners in late July. The villa was always cool and pleasant. We were glad to have the AC option in the bedrooms and did use it on some of the more humid nights. The pool is even lovelier than the pictures. We enjoyed it both in the mornings and evenings. We liked being on the much quieter and very friendly side of the island. We ate out in Coral Bay at Skinny Legs, great burgers and a terrific atmosphere, and Aquabistro, beautiful spot at the bottom of our hill. We did drive into Cruz Bay to enjoy a lovely dinner at Rhumblines. We were also more than happy to prepare dinner at the Villa, especially after a long day of beaching and snorkeling. Rhumb Runners is so charming that we didn't feel the need to go out to eat very often. Preparing meals at the villa was only difficult because of the lack of groceries in the vicinity. Although there are two convenient markets in Coral Bay, Calabash Market and Love City Mini Mart, the selection of groceries in the "off season" or summer months is poor. We wish we had stocked up with more groceries at Starfish Market in Cruz Bay. If we had, we might never have eaten out! Truly, Rhumb Runners is a charming villa on an enchanting island."

  • Klilly

"The villa was everything we expected and more! Each bedroom was wonderful and accommodating to our party of an all female getaway of 8. The pool offered relaxation after a busy day. A car rental is a must for this location. We loved experiencing the private setting, traversing the curvy roads to get there, and exploring the island. We thought the location suited our needs to truly experience island life! The kitchen was well stocked with essentials, as was the house with towels, beach towels, chairs, etc. The only complaint - very minor and not a huge problem - was that the 4 bathrooms were all adjoining bedrooms - did not have a community bath facility. Overall, would stay here again and recommend for large families and group getaways."

  • Lovely!

"My wife and I stayed at Sea Spirit for our honeymoon and it was absolutely amazing. I highly highly recommend it. Even though we didn't arrive until after 11PM, the owners went out of their way to rent a jeep on our behalf, pick us up from the ferry and lead us out to Sea Spirit and show us around the place. The ocean sounds and stars at night were amazing but when we woke up the next day we were blown away by the view. It is a great place to stay if you want to rent a vehicle to visit different beaches and restaurants and really get a feel for the island as a whole. If you're looking for room service and a beach a few steps from your room, this isn't it. But if you want to feel like you have your own portion of the island, enjoy a lovely home, and have a view unlike any other, this is your place. Have fun and keep left!"

  • Scenic Retreat...

"Our one week stay at HBTP was too short, another week would have been great. The property is well represented by the photos. Every morning you are greeted by a beautiful sunrise over Coral Bay, enjoy them all, they vary so much from day to day. We enjoyed the beautiful beaches, friendly people and relaxing evenings sipping beverages by the pool. Your hosts are wonderful and available if needed. Food delivery is rare for most properties, and is certainly an added bonus for those late returns from the beach. The kitchen is well stocked and extra care has been taken to provide some necessary items. There are two markets within a few minutes drive for small things you may have forgotten in Cruz Bay. Please try the local restaurants in the area, you won't be disappointed. We will not hesitate to stay in this lovely apartment again. We highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a peaceful vacation in paradise. Upon booking we received a package full of St. John information. Their attention to detail can't be beat. Thank you Sam, Sharon and Erik for making our first visit to St. John a memorable one. Hope to see you in 2015. Dani & Joel."

Coral Bay Travel Tips

Visitors to Coral Bay Vacation Rentals

Coral Bay of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is arguably one of the most laid-back places on earth. With beautiful island views and a warm year-round tropical climate, you won’t be on the island very long before you are enjoying the slower pace of life. It’s a place people come to in order to escape the busy corporate and city life. Many even return and make this their permanent home.

Enjoy a Stylish Vacation at Coral Bay Villas

While the town may have the laid-back and rustic vibe, the villas in Coral Bay are anything but. Spacious, beautiful villas set up on the hilltops exude elegance and style. Huge open decks that look out across the bay and lush tropical gardens provide a slice of luxury in a pristine natural setting. Most are equipped with entertainment centers and a host of modern conveniences. Some also offer a housekeeping service which means you don’t even need to worry about catering meals or having to shop for groceries. You can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the island.

Best Time of Year to Visit Coral Bay Resorts

When the climate is tropical you can choose to visit any time of year. The days and nights are always warm and there is little difference between the seasons. The only time of year you need to be a little weary is late summer when tropical storms blow across the Caribbean. The summers have slightly higher humidity levels because it’s the rainy season. However, thundershowers are usually isolated and clear up quickly. In general, you can expect warm sunny days and balmy nights typical of a tropical island.

Things to See and Do in Coral Bay

Coral Bay has one of the most protected harbors in the Virgin Islands. Hurricane Harbor is an anchorage for numerous sailing vessels, some of whom are permanently docked in the bay. Located on the southeastern side of St. John, Coral Bay used to be the main commercial center on the island. When the ferry service was started to Cruz Bay on the other side of the island, much of the commerce and development of St. John shifted across there too. It’s not entirely a bad thing as now you can get to enjoy Coral Bay with all its rustic charm. It’s a close-knit community and in no time, you are made to feel at home.

There are a number of excellent restaurants where you can enjoy some local food. Most have quirky names; regardless if it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner you are looking for, it’s sure to be an experience. At the same time, you can catch up on the local gossip and experience what it's like to live in this island paradise, even if only for a short while.

The Emmaus Moravian Church is one of the town’s historical landmarks. It once stood on the grounds of the Caroline Estate plantation. For a leisurely afternoon out, head down to the harbor area and charter a yacht for a sunset cruise excursion. As the yacht sails around the coast, you can cool off by diving into the warm turquoise sea and return to a chilled cocktail on board. Snorkeling and diving excursions can also be arranged. If you want to explore a little, you can follow the winding roads that crest the hilltops and stretch out for miles along the coast. The only traffic jams you are likely to experience here are a few donkeys crossing the road.
