  • Loved it!!!

"The mountain views were amazing! My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this tranquil environment and it was a dream come true waking up to the breathtaking view of the mountains covered with lush vegetation through a large window. The large deck was very convenient to just sit in the morning taking in the splendor of the rising sun. The grill came in handy in cooking steak at night. We rented unit 4, it had everything we needed for two people, but there are several units to accomodate larger parties. The new beach chairs were great, thank you! The owner was very diligent explaining how to get there (follow the directions, they are there for a reason and to the point), provided a ton of useful info on grocery stores and was very responsive when we had questions. Overall, we had a wonderful time during our 3rd time on USVIs. The only thing we would change is renting a jeep instead of a small 4 door car that time, the roads can be steep and bumpy in this part of the island."

  • Awesome Vacation!

"Pink Horses is a beautiful property located on a steep hillside in one of my favorite spots in the world, Coral Bay. Upon arrival on STJ and picking up our Jeep from Amy @ Amalie Car Rentals, we drove to Red Hook and hopped the ferry. Upon arrival in Cruz Bay, we provisioned at Starfish Market, then drove to Coral Bay and met Nancy, the property manager for Pink Horses. She led us to Pink Horses, up a paved road, then turned onto a semi-paved road that was rugged in a few spots. A Jeep is the preferred vehicle. The bumps and bounces were worth it once we arrived at Pink Horses....lovely house, fabulous views, delightful breezes, comfortable chairs on both decks to drink in the scenery. Nancy was very kind to show us the house and explain its workings. The house has been well maintained and is extremely clean. A search of the kitchen cupboards reveals plenty of dishes, pots and pans, cooking and eating utensils. Our bedroom with King bed had plenty of clothing storage, nice linens, a very nice adjoining bathroom with an indoor AND outdoor shower with a view. The guys watched a football game one night in the living room with large screen tv. Our friends' room on the lower level was also nice and comfortable with a detached bathroom. There was not a lot of clothing storage in that room. We used the washer mid-week; it works flawlessly and helps cut down the amount of clothing one needs to bring. There is also a dryer, but we used the breezes. We had a minor plumbing issue in the master bathroom, but a call to Nancy's husband, Ernie, had the leak repaired lickety-split quick. We appreciated his timely response. The pool is enticing, especially after several hours at any of the nearby beaches. One day, we played Skip-Bo on the rear patio, still outside but away from the breezes. The plantings around the house are beautiful, and there are lots of birds! The house's location is also near many good Coral Bay restaurants...Aqua Bistro, Indigo Cafe, Concordia Cafe. Cruz Bay is a 25 minute scenic drive with more restaurants...we always patronize Ocean Grille...and lots of nice shopping. Go see Kima at Out of The Blue and treat yourself to a nice piece of jewelry made on STJ as a reminder of your visit to this lovely island. Kudos to Terri, PH's owner, who is conscientious about returning one's calls, answering any questions and responding to emails. If possible, we will return to Pink Horses sooner rather than later. Thank you, Terri!"

  • A great private getaway

"Our family really enjoyed staying in this private house at the end, end, end of the road! Everything was clean and maintained well. I've stayed in places on St. John that had a more commanding view because they were higher up the mountain, but this spot is tranquil and still offered a picturesque place to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning on the second-floor deck. That deck is also a nice place to do some stargazing while listening to frogs and other night creatures. There are ruins right in your backyard, if you're willing to climb a bit, but they are totally worth the effort. This house provided plenty of room for a family of four -- we had the parents upstairs, one kid on the futon in the den and another on the pull-out couch. Having two bathrooms was nice, although note there's only one really useful shower. The outdoor shower provides very little privacy; more appropriate for a romantic getaway than a family vacation! :) The outdoor shower is very handy for just rinsing off after a day of hiking or at the beach if you were to do so while still in a swimsuit. Very nice kitchen amenities and an outdoor grill helped for some less-expensive meals cooked at home for a couple of nights. Despite very warm and humid weather, we never felt like we needed air conditioning thanks to the ceiling fans and comfortable breezes coming in the open doors and windows. Be prepared for visiting donkeys and, of course, the ever-present roosters make for some early mornings on the island. But then, you might as well get going early anyway since there is so much to do on St. John. The location was nice and secluded without being too far away from Coral Bay so you have relatively easy access to "town." Once you're stocked up on supplies, the owners provide plenty of coolers, beach towels and other things to help you enjoy your day at the beach or out hiking. While it's nice to be disconnected, we also appreciated the WiFi that was provided so we could upload and back up the many photos we were taking. All-in-all, a great place to call home for awhile. If we returned as a family again, this would be a place we would check on for availability."

  • Our Winter Escape to Rhumb Runners

"We (a Medicare eligible but far from immobile couple) returned to our hill farm home in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region late Saturday night, Feb. 28, 2015 from a week at Rhumb Runners to find that the brutal, relentless winter we had escaped was still going strong. That week was a wonderful respite and Rhumb Runners, the Coral Bay area and the east end of St. John were what made it so. Perched high above a busy area next to Coral Bay harbor (up 5 switchbacks on a challenging, but paved, road, which our Jeep Wrangler from Cool Breeze rentals was able to handle when dry without resort to 4-wheel drive, absolutely required when the road was wet or in some other situations encountered), Rhumb Runners was ideal for us. Rhumb Runners is private, bright, clean, roomy, airy (no shortage of wind), with exceptional views of the harbor, east end and the BVI beyond, and a nice, very private pool. Chris and Mike were ideal hosts, took care of small problems (e.g., replacing a new, but non-functioning microwave) and interesting company to be with, although after introducing us to the place, they let us have our space to ourselves. Aside from occasional showers (mostly brief downpours in the middle of the night), the weather was good (much better than NH!!!). We had dinner each night at local restaurants, examples: best conch fritters in 18 years BVI and USVI experience at Miss Lucy’s; great grilled yellow snapper escobiche at Concordia; best seared tuna had anywhere at Aqua Bistro. We enjoyed the local beaches: Salt Pond (a hike downhill, uphill back), Round Bay (called Haulover south, uncrowded and steps from your car) and Vie’s at Hansen Bay in the east end (an uncrowded, sandy beach for which a donation of $2.50 per person was requested and happily provided). We also went to Waterlemon Bay beach (requires a level hike of maybe 2/3rds mile in and out, but what was said to be best snorkeling was too far out for swimmers of our level). Driving by other north shore beaches to the west we found that they mostly lacked sun early in the day and became very crowded later. So, to sum up, we had a great week and very much enjoyed our stay at Rhumb Runners, which we highly recommend."
