Things to See and Do in Coral Bay

Coral Bay has one of the most protected harbors in the Virgin Islands. Hurricane Harbor is an anchorage for numerous sailing vessels, some of whom are permanently docked in the bay. Located on the southeastern side of St. John, Coral Bay used to be the main commercial center on the island. When the ferry service was started to Cruz Bay on the other side of the island, much of the commerce and development of St. John shifted across there too. It’s not entirely a bad thing as now you can get to enjoy Coral Bay with all its rustic charm. It’s a close-knit community and in no time, you are made to feel at home.

There are a number of excellent restaurants where you can enjoy some local food. Most have quirky names; regardless if it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner you are looking for, it’s sure to be an experience. At the same time, you can catch up on the local gossip and experience what it's like to live in this island paradise, even if only for a short while.

The Emmaus Moravian Church is one of the town’s historical landmarks. It once stood on the grounds of the Caroline Estate plantation. For a leisurely afternoon out, head down to the harbor area and charter a yacht for a sunset cruise excursion. As the yacht sails around the coast, you can cool off by diving into the warm turquoise sea and return to a chilled cocktail on board. Snorkeling and diving excursions can also be arranged. If you want to explore a little, you can follow the winding roads that crest the hilltops and stretch out for miles along the coast. The only traffic jams you are likely to experience here are a few donkeys crossing the road.
