"We stayed at New Moon for one week in June. (our first trip without the kids in a while) The cottage was everything we wanted for a getaway. It was fully stocked with everything we needed. I mean, c'mon, they even had a french press for coffee snobs like me. While it isn't really secluded, the vegetation and landscape make it feel like it is. On our arrival, the place was spotless. We rented one of the Jeeps that they had, and Catherine made sure someone was there to pick us up at the ferry dock. He took us to the grocery store in Cruz Bay and then on to the cottage. Catherine was always available to answer any questions we had and to make sure that we got back to the ferry on time on our departure day. We really appreciated how she made us feel at home. I'm an island guy. In fact, someday soon I hope to be one of the locals that you meet in Skinny Legs. When we do meet, feel free to ask me for recommendations on things to do and places to eat. I'll talk your ear off. St John is one of my favorite places. While we were there my wife spent every day in the water with me, despite Jaws having scarred her for life where the ocean is concerned. We saw something new below the surface every day. I love the pace and natural beauty of the island. It was great to come back to the cottage at the end of the day and watch the twilight descend on the valley and the bay. You just can't beat falling asleep with the sea breezes rustling the curtains. Coral Bay is on the quiet side of a quiet island. Nothing is really all that far away from you though. The beaches on the east end and southern side are really close and on some days you'll have them virtually all to yourself. As far as food goes, Miss Lucy's, Oasis, and Skinny Legs all offer good food at reasonable prices and a great atmosphere. Pickles Deli has a good breakfast. Overall, it's great place to make your own adventure."Guest: Marc Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: August 24, 2014View listing
"We stayed for a week, my second time to St. John. Great house, great location, great owner and great agent. Perfect for two who like to have privacy yet close to everything. Wish we could stay longer :) Lu"Guest: Lu C Date of Stay: July 2014 Review Submitted: August 12, 2014View listing
"Stunning Caribbean architectural detail in the home welcomes you to this well-kept, well-appointed Villa. Perched slightly up the mountain side to give you a great view of Coral Bay (much better view than the VRBO photos give credit for) as well as Hurricane Hole but not to high on the mountain to give the driver and passengers white knuckles :) We enjoyed the sunshine from the deck, retreated in the shade to read, jumped in the pool and hung out comfortably on the surrounding deck with many happy hours relaxing and enjoying the beautiful expansive views. The home is as the photos display, even better in our opinion. The kitchen is loaded with glasses, plates, pans, etc., the furniture is comfortable and well maintained. We found the bedrooms to have dual closets, comfortable beds and a clean bath with spacious full tile shower (or enjoy the outside shower). Very cool. Quiet area, convenient location and all the amenities blend for a perfect vacation getaway! I would likely recommend Villa Madeline to friends and family!"Guest: Mike and Marilyn Wagner Date of Stay: March 2014 Review Submitted: March 11, 2014View listing
"We loved this house! First, I have to mention that Catherine was a pleasure to work with. I was a lillte nervous about sending checks instead of using PayPal or the credit card, but it turned out to be just fine. Catherine was very responsive to all my questions and was always accessible if we needed anything. The house has been just recently remodeled and has a great, new feel. The furnishings are new and high quality. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bedrooms had AC, which was great for the hot August nights. The best part for us was the porch! The view is to die for, and, even in the hottest hours, there were cool breezes on the portch. The beaches are within 5-10 min drive. We stocked up with groceries on St. Thomas and used the little grocery shop down in Coral Bay for necessities. It worked out well for us. Beach chairs, beach towels, and mosquito repellent were all provided, which was a nice little touch. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend this house to others! Thanks, Catherine!"Guest: M M. Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: October 18, 2014View listing
Coral Bay Travel Tips
Visitors to Coral Bay Vacation Rentals
Coral Bay of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is arguably one of the most laid-back places on earth. With beautiful island views and a warm year-round tropical climate, you won’t be on the island very long before you are enjoying the slower pace of life. It’s a place people come to in order to escape the busy corporate and city life. Many even return and make this their permanent home.
Enjoy a Stylish Vacation at Coral Bay Villas
While the town may have the laid-back and rustic vibe, the villas in Coral Bay are anything but. Spacious, beautiful villas set up on the hilltops exude elegance and style. Huge open decks that look out across the bay and lush tropical gardens provide a slice of luxury in a pristine natural setting. Most are equipped with entertainment centers and a host of modern conveniences. Some also offer a housekeeping service which means you don’t even need to worry about catering meals or having to shop for groceries. You can simply sit back, relax and enjoy the island.
Best Time of Year to Visit Coral Bay Resorts
When the climate is tropical you can choose to visit any time of year. The days and nights are always warm and there is little difference between the seasons. The only time of year you need to be a little weary is late summer when tropical storms blow across the Caribbean. The summers have slightly higher humidity levels because it’s the rainy season. However, thundershowers are usually isolated and clear up quickly. In general, you can expect warm sunny days and balmy nights typical of a tropical island.
Things to See and Do in Coral Bay
Coral Bay has one of the most protected harbors in the Virgin Islands. Hurricane Harbor is an anchorage for numerous sailing vessels, some of whom are permanently docked in the bay. Located on the southeastern side of St. John, Coral Bay used to be the main commercial center on the island. When the ferry service was started to Cruz Bay on the other side of the island, much of the commerce and development of St. John shifted across there too. It’s not entirely a bad thing as now you can get to enjoy Coral Bay with all its rustic charm. It’s a close-knit community and in no time, you are made to feel at home.
There are a number of excellent restaurants where you can enjoy some local food. Most have quirky names; regardless if it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner you are looking for, it’s sure to be an experience. At the same time, you can catch up on the local gossip and experience what it's like to live in this island paradise, even if only for a short while.
The Emmaus Moravian Church is one of the town’s historical landmarks. It once stood on the grounds of the Caroline Estate plantation. For a leisurely afternoon out, head down to the harbor area and charter a yacht for a sunset cruise excursion. As the yacht sails around the coast, you can cool off by diving into the warm turquoise sea and return to a chilled cocktail on board. Snorkeling and diving excursions can also be arranged. If you want to explore a little, you can follow the winding roads that crest the hilltops and stretch out for miles along the coast. The only traffic jams you are likely to experience here are a few donkeys crossing the road.
