  • Perfect Couples Villa in Quiet Location

"My husband and I stayed at Anchorage Aweigh from 1/30/15-2/6/15. It was the perfect size, location, and very well kept. We loved having the complex to ourselves with the pool. They have everything you need (cooler, beach chairs, grill, towels, dish network). The bed was very comfortable and kitchen well equipped as we cooked many meals there. The only concern of mine when staying there was that the shower was hit or miss on hot water and was an outdoor shower only. I believe many villas are like this on the island though and it did not damper our trip in any way. The location was superb as it is very quiet and low key. Cruz Bay was much busier and we were not interested in nightlife. There are many good beaches and restaurants in that area so you do not have to drive to Cruz Bay in the dark. The roads can be challenging so ensure you rent a 4X4. We rented from Courtesy Jeep and loved them. I highly recommend this villa if you are lucky enough to visit the magnificent island of St. John. We hope to return very soon!"

  • Relaxing, affordable Coral Bay cottage

"Great cottage for our family of four (two children ages 10 & 12). It is in a peaceful and quiet location. We slept like babies, listening to the sound of waves and nature. The owners supply everything besides food, including sheets, bath towels, beach towels, kitchen supplies. The beds all have soft mattress covers under the sheets. There is a clothes line to hang wet clothes and towels. The caretaker is easily reachable by telephone. The house is not in the middle of the tourist areas, and is a little off the beaten path. However, the island is small enough that it can be crossed in 20 minutes. We spent our days going to different north shore beaches, then happily returned to the cottage. There are very good restaurants nearby, and several food stores. The owners are very responsive and accommodating. In short, we have nothing negative to say and had a fabulous time."

  • Respite from a long winter

"Cliffhanger is a great launching pad or destination in its own right! All three bedrooms are clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated, and have to-die-for views and private bathrooms. The common space has a fourth full bathroom. The kitchen has more stuff than any place we've rented before, including a coffee maker, blender, rice cooker, toaster, and plenty of dishes and cookware. The two decks offer a cool breeze and plenty of shade for hanging out together, or apart, and enjoying the sound of the surf and amazing view of the ocean. You could easily spend your days just chilling at the house. If you want to get out, I would drive. Although the house is very close to a few shops (including Dolphin Market-- which has excellent produce and some items I would expect to see at a high end store on the mainland), the windy road has very little shoulder, and the cars go pretty fast. If you want to go for a run, you likewise should drive someplace. (I enjoyed the rough dirt road and then trails by Great and Little Lameshur beaches.) Other recommendations: 1) You can't beat a sunrise hike up Ram Head, just beyond Salt Pond Bay. (It's nice any time, but at sunrise you'll have the trail to yourself, and likely won't have to share the beach upon your return.) 2) Rent kayaks at Crabby's and paddle to Hurricane Hole. (Go for the full day. A half day wasn't enough to take it all in.) 3) Most of us got massages by Suki, who was excellent! sukistjohn@gmail.com. We set up on the lower deck, which offered total privacy, along with a cool breeze, and the sound of the surf. 4) Getting in the water at the base of the steep wood and stone stairway from the house is challenging, but rewarding. There's decent coral along the edge in the direction of the harbor. 5) Don't miss dinner at Sweet Plaintains! (We went twice.) 6) Keep your eye open for live music opportunities. We caught some on Thursday night at Skinny Legs and wished we'd gone earlier. 7) And, of course, the beaches. In addition to the popular north shore beaches (we really liked Francis Bay, next to Maho Bay), Coral Bay offers its own gems. If you prefer a sandy beach, Salt Pond Bay and Little Lameshur are nice. If you crave solitude, and don't mid a smooth pebble beach, Great Lameshur is appealing. Denise was attentive before, during and after our trip, and the property manager graciously accommodated our unexpectedly late arrival due to flight snafus. We were well cared for!"

  • Couldn't be better

"Sea Rock was a perfect place to stay. The house is located a couple hundred feet about the sea, with sweeping views from every room of Coral Bay. Two decks run the length of the first and second floors, with comfortable seating, shade if you want it, and on the top floor, outside the kitchen, is a beautiful long table for dining. The kitchen is superb, with every appliance you could want. Plus, it's got all of the basic spices, oil and vinegar, etc. so you don't have to buy these at the store. The upstairs has a cathedral ceiling with 3 fans to keep things cool, but we rarely used the fans because the view to the East brought nice breezed all day and night. The furniture is very comfy. There are 2 bedrooms -- both air conditioned - which share a bath. There are two outdoor showers, which surprised us but we quickly found that we loved them. It's great to be taking a shower while looking over a privacy screen at the ocean. The beds are comfortable and there's a lot of closet and dresser space for clothes. We didn't use them but the owner told us we could use his beach chairs, coolers and other handy items. Finally, I can't say enough good things about the owner, Dan Maitland. This was our first time in St. John and we had many questions about where to hike, where to snorkel, where to eat, etc. Dan quickly sent very thorough answers to all of our questions. And his property manager, Jared, was equally response to my queries. It's very reassuring to see this level of service on a rental property. My wife and I will definitely be back to Sea Rock. Finally, let me say how much we enjoyed staying in Coral Bay. It's a small community about 20 minutes from busy Cruz Bay. The area is much less hectic, and the area isn't built-up. There's no town center but there are 3 grocery stores, a lots of restaurants -- several of them excellent -- and a few nice stores."
