  • The View

"The view is amazing. The house is well stocked and very comfortable. But like I said the view is unbelievable as you lounge on the upper decks, pool side or while grilling. The house has plenty of space as the trip included my family of 5 plus my brother and his wife. This was our second trip to St. John and Casa Luna will definitely be on our list for our next trip back. As with any place there is always the possibility of a problem and how those problems are handled is what can make or break the best of locations. When we arrived late Saturday we were escorted to the property by Leah of Island Getaways. She led us to the property which we would not have found on our own and showed us around the Vila. After she left we began to take showers and quickly discovered we had a water issue. More specifically the cistern was almost dry and we had no water pressure. We went to the book of numbers Leah had shown us and a maintenance man was soon on his way. After confirming our situation Kathy /Island Getaways arranged for a special delivery (two tanker trucks) to refill the cistern. After resolving the problem in a timely manner Kathy insisted on paying for dinner at a restaurant of our choosing. As I said how problems are handle is what can truly make or break the best of locations. We had an excellent trip at a truly great villa. Between The View and Island Getaways we will recommend this to anyone going to St John. By the way did I mention The View..."

  • Paradise

"My husband and I recently stayed at Sun's Kiss for a week. We definitely agree with the other reviews about spectacular views, spacious apartment, great location, etc. In addition the landscape has beautiful tropical plants and flowers along with a water feature on the stone steps from the deck down to where you can park your car. One of my favorite things to do was to walk down to the water feature in the early morning. That is when many birds are coming there for much needed drinks of water. Antillean crested hummingbirds will dart by and sometimes hover close to you. You can get a great close up view and see the brilliant colors in their crests if the lighting is just right. Along with the hummingbirds there are banana-quits and Lesser Antillean bull finches. We were also lucky to have a mating pair of kestrels (sparrow hawks) that would hang out in a nearby tree. I especially loved the empty coconut shell hanging by our door that would miraculously be filled with flowers every morning. Gary is such a thoughtful host and I also enjoyed spending time with his mother, Charlette. We look forward to staying there whenever we return to St. John."

  • Wonderful and great location

"We had 13 people in this house, 9 adults and 4 children. There was never a time where we felt we are on top of each other. There was so much space and privacy. The kids were in the pool pretty much anytime we were on the property. The kitchen was full of amenities -- ice maker was great! We did have a water leak the first day we were there. It was fixed and completely taken care of by the time we got home from dinner. Very responsive management company. I'm not sure you can beat the view. It was a fantastic place to spend Thanksgiving and probably the best view we have had for our Thanksgiving meal. Very much recommend this place especially for large groups and kids."

  • Open, airy, totally lovely!

"Our group of 9 spent 10 days at Callaloo. Many of us have stayed in several other houses on St. John so we have come to expect glorious views, breezy porches and bumpy roads. Callaloo has all this and more. The most striking feature of Callaloo is the open air aspect. We had the delightful sense that, even when "indoors," we were somehow outside. The site is wonderfully landscaped, adding to both the lovely outdoor feeling as well as the privacy of Callaloo. (I have to say I especially loved the 3 walled bathroom of Moonlight Cottage!). The cottage type set-up was great for our large group and length of stay. We could separate by going to our own area or get together in the common areas. Both the living room and the dining table were just the right size for 9. With a group as large as ours, having 4 bathrooms was definitely a plus. All the rooms were clean and pleasant, furnishings including beds completely comfortable. We have never felt the need for a pool while in St. John so I didn't expect to use the one at Callaloo but our two boys really liked it and did use it several times. We had no prior experience cooking in an outdoor brick oven, so we were surprised by how much we enjoyed the experience! We cooked a roast of beef, pork roast and turkey; all the meats came out delicious, moist and with just a hint of smokiness. We tend to be more oriented to Coral Bay and the south shore than Cruz Bay, so the location was great for us. We couldn't ask for better, more gracious hosts. They made sure they were available and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We felt the price rate was very reasonable in an area where it is sometimes hard to find reasonable prices. We would definitely stay at Callaloo again next time we visit St. John."
