  • Loving Life in Coral Bay!

"We just returned from a fantastic one-week stay at La Bella Villa. This was our third trip to St. John and La Bella Villa took things up a notch with its perfect combination of location, amenities, tranquility and beauty. The Villa is a gorgeous blend of natural stone and rich woods surrounded by lush tropical foliage. The pictures simply don’t do it justice. We immediately noticed the details in the stone moldings that frame the large number of screened doors and windows that allow the cool ocean breezes to sweep through the home. The villa was well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We usually cooked breakfast and an occasional lunch, with dinner spent at one of the many local restaurants. Although we never used the available TV, the access to wireless Internet was appreciated. The villa is located in the northern part of Coral Bay. We found the location to be a perfect balance between peaceful seclusion, prime snorkeling (N. Haulover Bay, Kiddel Bay and Waterlemon Cay) and occasional evening access to Cruz Bay. Coral Bay has great restaurants and watering holes to include our favorite Skinny Legs. In addition, there are grocery and convenience stores in case you run out of any essential items. In the end, La Bella Villa hit the mark for us. We spent the days snorkeling various bays/cays and came home for cocktails on the huge back porch overlooking Coral Bay. The quality beds allowed us to get a great night sleep so we could do it all over the next day. We’ll be staying here again."

  • Perfect

"My girlfriend and I stayed here 12/28/14 through 1/2/15, and we loved everything about it. The cottage has more than enough room for two people. All the kitchen appliances were functioning properly, and the kitchen is equipped with everything we needed to cook meals and make cocktails. There is a ceiling fan in the kitchen/living/bathroom area. The bathroom is spacious enough with plenty of shelf space for storing all of our toiletries. The outdoor shower has hot water and is a delight to use. The bedroom has a comfortable bed, a mosquito net, a ceiling fan, an extra fan on the wall, books, and a television. Plenty of windows allow pleasant breezes to travel through the rooms. The deck has a grill, a hot tub, two lounge chairs, and a table with two chairs. Overall, the cottage was clean, comfortable, and functional during our stay. Beyond the basics, the owners are wonderful people who have added many thoughtful personal touches that really make the place feel special and welcoming. They have planted beautiful plants around the outside of the cottage and below the deck, enhancing the beautiful views of the cottage itself and Coral Harbor below. They have strategically placed solar powered lanterns on the decks and walkways. They have adorned the cottage with interesting and beautiful artwork with natural themes of the island. They have a kayak, two beach chairs, two fold-up camp chairs, and snorkel gear available for your enjoyment. They also have the cottage stocked with bug spray, sun block, and some drinking water to get you started. The cottage is stocked with some novels and some very helpful books, brochures, maps, and documents about things to do in St. John. The friendly owners personally gave us very helpful information about grocery stores, restaurants, beaches, and they were available to answer any questions we had. We felt as if we were guests in the home of a friend or family member. The location of this cottage was perfect for us. It's far enough away from Cruz Bay but close enough to every beach on the island, and there are good grocery stores, bars, and restaurants nearby. The locals are friendly and helpful, and the neighborhood is very safe. I cannot stress enough the need to rent a Jeep to freely explore the island at your own pace. There are many places on the island that taxis do not travel. Staying at Simply St. John and reserving a Jeep in advance are excellent decisions."

  • Just What the Doctor Ordered

"At times, we need to take a break from the lives we are living, to slow down the pace a notch or two. Resonate for you? Then, look no further. This St. John villa is the balm to soothe your body and soul. Described as a romantic villa, which is most certainly true, this rental is a sensorial delight. Each aesthetic detail of this thoughtfully-decorated home, truly how you feel once you set foot inside, is beyond the advertised pictures. From the art on the walls to the fabric of the armchair upholstery to the cherry wood bathroom paneling, one feels pampered by the owners who take pride in their property, as well as respect you as a renter. The bamboo shades, the rooster-motif light plates, the leather-bound guest books, and the linen tablecloths and napkins pre-set on the dinette table are other special touches. Stocked shelves of varied genres of books and CDs were provided for our entertainment. Clean and well-maintained both inside and out- this villa is so lovely! As for the villa’s surroundings, it is nestled in a hill with magnificent views of lush vegetation. Sitting on the deck whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you will find yourself making friends with nature- looking out for your favorite bird whose visits are second only to those of the precious geckos who carry out their business without ever becoming a nuisance. The flowers and the brain coral sit nearby taking in the view alongside you. The owners of this fine property were most gracious, offering us their private pool as a change from swimming at the beaches. They provided a tome of information about what to do and where to go in the form of a well-organized binder of typed content, flyers, and maps. After perusing the materials they supplied, we found a visit to the ruins of the sugar plantation at Annaberg and a sampling of the conch fritters at a stand nearby most memorable. Beach hopping and hiking were also fun. Although the villa’s kitchen is well-stocked allowing for cooking and eating in which we did during our stay, some favorite meals were had at the Lime Inn and High Tide; the mahi-mahi at these restaurants can’t be beat! If you want to experience an exquisite tasting ice cream-try lavender honey vanilla at the homemade ice cream shop. Savoring my last mouthful, I thought about transporting this otherworldly treat home. I will just have to return along with the friends and family to whom I have recommended this wonderful getaway!"

  • Perfect Engagement Venue

"I don’t normally post many reviews, however this was for a special occasion and I was accommodated wonderfully so I had to write. I had decided to propose to my girlfriend and our favorite place is St John’s East End. I contacted Gin de Mer at the last minute and they were able to make it work so that I could come down and execute my plan. I won’t go into all of the details, but it is such a great place to stay - the view from the terrace and pool are amazing and we couldn’t have had a better time. The sunsets are magnificent! I love to cook and it is so nice to dine outside under cover regardless of the occasional rain shower. It is such a peaceful and beautiful place that we will always come back to - especially since she said yes! Thanks Gin De Mer."
