  • Nice Villa, would be better with some owner upgrades

"We stayed June 8-15, 2014 with a group of 5: a couple, a single dad, and his 18-yr and 15-yr old kids. The property manager did a great job, everything expected of him - no complaints there. The Villa itself is beautiful and for the most part, nicely equipped. Things we loved: Great location, only 5 minutes from a grocery store. The big bay doors and the deck on the upper floor, which let in the breezes. The view from the upper deck was awesome, a full view of Fish Bay. We saw sharks and sea turtles from the deck, as well as iguanas below and in the trees adjacent to the deck. The pool was a great place to float and cool off and have a rum drink - we used it a lot. The bedrooms well-cooled with the individual A/C units, were roomy and the bathrooms were beautiful and well-designed for vacation renters. The supplied beach towels, beach chairs, and coolers were completely adequate for our needs. The supplied washer and dryer worked great and were very handy for allowing us to bring minimal clothing and wash it multiple times while at the Villa. Things we didn't love so much: the entertainment setup in the living room needs a complete upgrade/overhaul. The TV is small and fuzzy, and does not connect to the audio system. The old amplifier, although quality for it's day, does not have a headphone jack input, so there was no way to attach a phone or MP3 player to it. The supplied iPod dock only accepts iPhone4 and older connections. The owner could spend about $2K and get that upgraded to a modern setup and vastly improve the experience. The beds in the lower floor need replacing. They are pushed-together twin beds and they are very poor. One of them slanted to one side. The headboards were not attached and would bang against the wall when you moved in the bed - we just moved them out of the way. The kitchen knives are mostly useless - dull and old. The freezer would not consistently/adequately freeze items. The oven cooked very slowly, and the burners on the top were so weak that we were unable to boil water for pasta. Owner could/should buy new appliances and a good knife set, and it would make the kitchen a lot better. The supplied binoculars were very nice, but small and of weak magnification - a bigger or second set would be helpful. The wi-fi was consistent but slow - maybe spending $100 on a modern router would help. As a summary, we enjoyed our week at Beija Flor, but without the suggested upgrades, we would choose another Villa on a return trip."

  • Feb 22 - March 8th

"Just returned from a two week stay at Villamahr and the property was everything it was advertised to be and more. We also rented a vehicle from Scott and it was big enough for 4 adults and all our luggage. ( 2 Weeks, we had a lot of luggage). We had no problems traversing the steep roads and trails on the island and got pretty good gas mileage considering all the hills. We stayed in unit 4 and found it to be clean and in great shape, comfortable king size beds and plenty of windows for breezes while we slept. Never hot or cold in the house. The living area is big and the kitchen has everything you need. The view off the porch is just hard to describe. It is truly panoramic with views of the water and surrounding hill sides. The pool was clean and a great place to hang out but with all the beautiful beaches so close by we did not use it all that much. This was a very comfortable home to stay in for two weeks. We met our neighbors in unit 3 and they said there unit was awsome to. It would take to long to mention all the cool things to do on the island but the beaches are some of the most beautiful we have ever seen. We visited 8 different ones all over the island and never traveled more 15 or 20 min. to get there. The ones on the north side tended to be more crowded. The east end of the island is the place to stay, less crowded and very laid back. Villamahr is also very close to all the stores and cool places. We cannot wait to get back."

  • Perfect Beach Casual Getaway

"My husband and I wanted a place to relax and find some adventure before our upcoming 1st child, and this was the perfect cottage for that experience! The quiet calm of Coral Bay/Lameshur was perfect in comparison to the more touristy Cruz Bay. We looked for the best deal within our budget, and were very happy with the price and amenities. Russ and Liz answered emails promptly with very helpful information, which made us more certain to rent with them. The cottage is clean and comfortable, with everything we needed. Even though the bed was a full, it was very comfortable and we slept well with the island breeze coming through the screen windows (no AC). There were snorkels, beach chairs, floats, towels, and a kayak for our beach needs. We enjoyed hikes and snorkeling at the nearby national park (just down the street- but you definitely need a 4-wheel drive to get there). Every day we took a drive to a different beach. One in the morning, and one in the afternoon. Favorites: Trunk & Cinnamon Bay (if you get there early before the large groups or later in the day after they've already left), the Peace Hill hike down to Denis Bay, Waterlemon Bay, and Salt Pond Bay (near the cottage). The best evening we spent was snorkeling in Salt Pond until right before sunset, when we hiked to Ram's Head (a trail connected to Salt Pond). Amazing view and experience followed by an excellent sea food dinner at Miss Lucy's (also with a lovely setting by a bay). Beach casual is definitely the way to describe the cottage. It's not a place to rent if you want a "posh" experience, even though we had everything we needed. Bonus- good books & DVDs, and very nice neighbors renting the larger house next door. A few things to note: groceries are expensive on the island, but we really liked the local Calabash Market in Coral Bay (open til 10) and the nicer/bigger Starfish Market in Cruz Bay. Burgers were great at Skinny Legs (Coral Bay), and we got cheaper sandwiches for lunch at Deli Grotto in Cruz Bay. Overall- wonderful experience for adventure lovers! We will cherish the memories we made here always."

  • Awesome Vacay

"My husband and I stayed here for 5 days in late May. What a wonderful retreat. Just what we needed. Nice pool, screened in porch and close to Coral Bay restaurants. We cooked breakfast at the house and would venture out for lunch and dinner. Why cook when you're on vacation? The bedroom is below the main living area and has an air conditioner, although the breeze from the water was refreshing and we never felt hot. The shower upstairs has a window to the deck (still private) and the breeze would blow through creating such a pleasant experience. The whole property is private and we never felt like we were being watched or could be seen. We visited Maho Beach but decided to head over to Francis Bay, which offered less people and traffic. We relaxed on the porch in the evenings with a cocktail then headed down the driveway and ate at Aquabistro every night. The food was so good and location was so convenient that we skipped plans to eat elsewhere. We took the Red Hook Ferry on arrival, which included a horrendous taxi ride. On our return to STT, we opted for the longer ferry ride to Char Amalie and shorter taxi. This is the way to go. We went to unwind and that's exactly what we did. Can't wait to return!"
