  • Open, airy, totally lovely!

"Our group of 9 spent 10 days at Callaloo. Many of us have stayed in several other houses on St. John so we have come to expect glorious views, breezy porches and bumpy roads. Callaloo has all this and more. The most striking feature of Callaloo is the open air aspect. We had the delightful sense that, even when "indoors," we were somehow outside. The site is wonderfully landscaped, adding to both the lovely outdoor feeling as well as the privacy of Callaloo. (I have to say I especially loved the 3 walled bathroom of Moonlight Cottage!). The cottage type set-up was great for our large group and length of stay. We could separate by going to our own area or get together in the common areas. Both the living room and the dining table were just the right size for 9. With a group as large as ours, having 4 bathrooms was definitely a plus. All the rooms were clean and pleasant, furnishings including beds completely comfortable. We have never felt the need for a pool while in St. John so I didn't expect to use the one at Callaloo but our two boys really liked it and did use it several times. We had no prior experience cooking in an outdoor brick oven, so we were surprised by how much we enjoyed the experience! We cooked a roast of beef, pork roast and turkey; all the meats came out delicious, moist and with just a hint of smokiness. We tend to be more oriented to Coral Bay and the south shore than Cruz Bay, so the location was great for us. We couldn't ask for better, more gracious hosts. They made sure they were available and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. We felt the price rate was very reasonable in an area where it is sometimes hard to find reasonable prices. We would definitely stay at Callaloo again next time we visit St. John."

  • Rejuvenation close to nature with the comforts of home. It doesn’t get any better than this!

"This year we stayed at Pebble Cove and were so happy to discover this incredible location! The house provided the ideal home for the four of us: spacious, comfortable, great views, amazing sunsets and the sense of living so close to the rhythms of nature. It was easy to forget what day or time it was. All I needed to know was: time for a swim, time to eat or maybe time for a soak in the hot tub. I loved sitting on the deck under the gazebo and looking across the bright blues of Haulover Bay to the land that is all National Park, knowing that it will remain virgin, unspoiled forest. We were able to buy fresh fish from the fisherman in Coral Bay. We also found local honey, papaya, mangos, star fruit and plantains at a small fruit stand in Coral Bay. We also bought fresh greens from Josephine, whose garden center is just down the road from the Love City Market. It was great to see her gardens, a flat area nestled between the hills. This is my fourth trip to St. John and the first time I have seen where she grows her produce. The arugula and mixed greens are great! We walked half mile down the road from Pebble Cove to Vie’s for some West Indian food and then rented her kayak to explore Coral Bay waters. It was fun to get out further and snorkel new areas of the vast bay that East End surrounds. I do wish I had taken my hat! Since we have explored St. John before on our other trips, we didn’t feel compelled to do it all again and mostly stayed on East End and at Pebble Cove. Everything we needed was right there...the lounge chairs on the beach, a hammock, good food, our favorite music, good company, great sunsets, even a few rain showers at night to cool things off. We did eat out at Aqua Bistro in Coral Bay a few times (good!) and had lunch at Sundog when we went to Cruz Bay, but otherwise we were quite content at Pebble Cove. I am carrying home memories of blissfully rocking in that hammock in the shade, listening to the lapping of the water on the shore. We will be back! Thanks, Linda and Allen, for sharing your special place with us."

  • Quiet retreat - excellent location

"Great spot on the Coral Bay side, quiet and secluded up in the hills (no clear view of the harbor by the way - lots of foliage in the way). Quick access to great food (Indigo Grill, Aqua Bistro) and casual (Skinny Legs). Easy drive to any of the South or East-end water for snorkeling (new fave was Kiddell Bay!) as well as a quick drive to any of the North shore beaches - Maho Bay was the surprise snorkel (turtles, rays, etc. in abundance). Love City Market and Dolphin Market (my preference) are readily accessible as well. Rental is a steep Jeep ride up the hill and so easy to find off of Centerline road. It was big enough and yet cozy for this couple on their second visit to St. John and has all the amenities necessary to make it a comfortable stay. One minor issue was the comfort of the bed, otherwise no complaint whatsoever. Every evening at dusk there was a display with bats swooping and diving so grab a beverage and enjoy the show. It's a terrific place to set up shop and enjoy the island. I offer a "Highly Recommended" for this little piece of paradise and working with the owners when booking was a breeze. We did not have any contact with the property manager other than a quick email exchange as we do the travel thing regularly. DO FOLLOW the advice on renting a Jeep or other 4WD vehicle."

  • The perfect spot for a great vacation

"We stayed a week at Island Vibes, a truly delightful place. It is bright, colorful, and well equipped. A wonderful constant island breeze blowing through the house kept us cool and almost mosquito free. Marcia and Sam were the perfect hosts, answering all our questions and making sure we were comfortable. We would definitely go back to revisit this quieter side of the island with its beautiful bays, friendly wildlife, and interesting people."
