  • Peaceful interior and nice to not be at a resort

"Really nice structure and fine location. Our favorite moments of the entire vacation included the wonderfully breezy and fresh mornings in the rental as well as relaxing in the evenings after a long day. Price was very competitive. Only would suggest outfitting the kitchen with more utensils such as a cutting board, colander, and a big skillet."

  • A great private getaway

"Our family really enjoyed staying in this private house at the end, end, end of the road! Everything was clean and maintained well. I've stayed in places on St. John that had a more commanding view because they were higher up the mountain, but this spot is tranquil and still offered a picturesque place to relax with a cup of coffee in the morning on the second-floor deck. That deck is also a nice place to do some stargazing while listening to frogs and other night creatures. There are ruins right in your backyard, if you're willing to climb a bit, but they are totally worth the effort. This house provided plenty of room for a family of four -- we had the parents upstairs, one kid on the futon in the den and another on the pull-out couch. Having two bathrooms was nice, although note there's only one really useful shower. The outdoor shower provides very little privacy; more appropriate for a romantic getaway than a family vacation! :) The outdoor shower is very handy for just rinsing off after a day of hiking or at the beach if you were to do so while still in a swimsuit. Very nice kitchen amenities and an outdoor grill helped for some less-expensive meals cooked at home for a couple of nights. Despite very warm and humid weather, we never felt like we needed air conditioning thanks to the ceiling fans and comfortable breezes coming in the open doors and windows. Be prepared for visiting donkeys and, of course, the ever-present roosters make for some early mornings on the island. But then, you might as well get going early anyway since there is so much to do on St. John. The location was nice and secluded without being too far away from Coral Bay so you have relatively easy access to "town." Once you're stocked up on supplies, the owners provide plenty of coolers, beach towels and other things to help you enjoy your day at the beach or out hiking. While it's nice to be disconnected, we also appreciated the WiFi that was provided so we could upload and back up the many photos we were taking. All-in-all, a great place to call home for awhile. If we returned as a family again, this would be a place we would check on for availability."

  • Great spot and great timing

"During a recent trip to St. John we found ourselves stranded on the island by Tropical Storm Bertha. Late Saturday afternoon we found out we had to leave our house from the week and we needed a spot near Cruz Bay so we could return our rental. John was extremely helpful and rented the one bedroom part of his unit to us for the night. Unfortunately it was booked the following nights we were there, But his kindness and extra effort helped us through a pinch. The condo is in a great location, in fact I recommend it as a great spot while you are in St. John. It is very easy to get to all the beach areas from there and a you can walk into Cruz Bay for dinner, shopping, etc. The condo is very comfortable and has terrific views of Cruz Bay. There is good snorkling right down the street at the Gallows Point and as a kayker, it appears easy access and some good water right in front of the unit. Thanks John for your hospitality!"

  • Nice but noisy

"The villa is a very beautiful place, but the construction next door was a complete turnoff. Monday thru Friday starting at 7am workers were very loud, hammers banging, saws, and belt sanders were going until 3 or 4pm. The pool was lovely but you could not enjoy it with all the noise. We hoped for a nice peaceful vacation and all we got was a lot of noise. I wish we were informed of this before we spent all that money. It was really a shame that we could not enjoy the villa we paid for. It is a dream of a house and the pictures are exactally what you see, views and all. We did meet and chat with the owner and was told that other renters had complained of the noise and monies had been refunded. I just wish he had told us of the construction. Before renting this villa just make sure the construction is over. You will totally enjoy it."
