Recent USVI/St. John property reviews

  • Just as advertised!

"Best value on the island! We read the reviews and spoke to Trevor before renting, and knew what to expect. We traveled with another couple and rented both cottages. It was a wonderful week that just went by too fast! We'd love to stay there again!"

  • Best views on St John, cooling breezes, gorgeous home

"We recently returned from a stay at this villa. This was our third St John trip, but our first stay in the Bordeaux Mtn area. I would definitely recommend this villa and/or location. The views were far better than pictured, with cooling mountain breezes. It is very convenient to Maho Bay for snorkeling (where we saw many turtles), and to Coral Bay restaurants and bars, and quick shopping trips. Major shopping trips would still need to go over to Cruz Bay, but the ride is only 20 minutes or so. It also is probably one of the most easily accessible villas in Bordeaux, with a short, level driveway. Absolutely no need for 4 wheel drive on this trip! The villa was very clean, and the kitchen was extremely well provisioned with high end cookware, numerous plates, platters, glasses, bowls, utensils, and gadgets. It also had some aluminum foil, paper products, saran wrap, ziplocs, and S&P already there, which was much appreciated. The rental agency included a welcome basket with cheese, crackers, chips, salsa, fruits, beer, chocolates, milk, water, juices, etc. Bedrooms were all very comfortable with good mattresses, and nice bed linens. Great views from the master bedroom and 2nd floor queen bedroom on their private seating areas (porch). It is an east facing view, so be prepared to have the sun wake you... The showers have garden window(s), and nice quality towels. The villa supplied numerous beach towels, coolers, beach chairs, etc. North shore beaches are very close, as are hiking trails. The living room has 3 large couches and other seating as well, so it will definitely fit 8 people very easily. The decking is expansive and has many deck chairs, and you have good views throughout, with great views at the far end of the deck. It is easy to prepare meals and still converse with people on the deck. The landscaping is professional and very nicely done. There were several papaya trees with ripe fruit, but we didn't try any. The view is just fabulous, although we had some haze for the first few days (which cleared eventually). The hot tub is probably only suited to 4 persons. The pool was cool and refreshing, but seemed smaller than pictured. Nice stereo system with iPod adapter. We only used 3 of the 4 bedrooms, and while we didn't actually see the 4th, I don't know that I would recommend it. It is only accessible by stairs, no view, and no A/C (and not sure it would get a breeze)."

  • Ventosa

"We stayed at Ventosa for 9 days in July of 2011. My husband and I traveled with an 18 yr old, 21 yr old and 22 yr old. The villa was unbelievable. The most beautiful view on the island. We woke early every day because you just can't miss the fantastic sunrises from the decks. The home is beyond words. Beautifully decorated, expansive decks, lovely furnishings and art pieces, and a dream kitchen. The views from every single room are incredible. This home is extremely clean and well cared for. Absolutely everything you could ever need plus - beach chairs, coolers, beach towels, boogie boards, every kitchen immenity you could ask for, laundry soaps, paper products, etc.. Our favorite - the outdoor shower - lovely. The pictures do not do this home justice. It is spectacular!!!! The view of the East End and Tortola at night are fabulous. The driveway and the ride up (steep and unpaved) are not for the faint of heart. We wouldn't have had it any other way though - loved every trip up and down. Many thanks to the owners for allowing us to share their piece of paradise. To those who will stay in the future - favorite stop on the way home was Aqua Bistro for the specialty drink "Drink Right - Keep Left" and on to Ventosa to enjoy the views and the hot tub. It really is heaven. St. John is the most beautiful place in the world. We will return."

  • Best Experience Ever!

"My husband, myself and our 2 boys(5 & 2 1/2) stayed at Hummingbird's SEAcret for 10 days in February 2014. In the past we have rented three other homes on the island (never before in one of Lisa's management homes). While all of them were very nice, Hummingbird was hands down the best experence. Kate (Lisa's helper) picked us up at the ferry dock. She was so warm and welcoming, full of great information, and when we arrived at the house we were greeted with crackers, cheese, beer and wine. After traveling 10 long hours w/2 small children, we were beyond thrilled! From then on it just kept getting better. The house was perfect. The open, single building, ranch style allowed us to lounge by the pool while the kids watched cartoons or played in the pool. Speaking of the pool, it was perfect; heated and clean with outstanding views! You'd think in such a warm place you wouldn't need a heated pool. However when your kids want you to go in with them 1st thing in the a.m. and the last thing before bed, the heat makes it so much more enjoyable. The location was great, close to town and grocery store. Also, unlike other homes we've rented we never once had to use air conditioning, the house was always airy comfortable. We rented strollers and took walks every morning which turned out to be a highlight of the trip for both my husband and I. The roads were paved and the hills were steep and there were continuous breathtaking views. The house was clean, bright, and stocked with all the little things you need a bit of but you can only purchase in large quantity...coffee filters, dishwasher detergent, dish soap, sponges etc...to sum it up: we will use Lisa's co. from now on, and we can't wait to go back to HUMMINGBIRD'S SEAcret!"
