Recent USVI/St. John reviews

  • Excellent St John house for 4 people - super views, great location!

"We stayed a week with our 2 adult male sons. The layout was perfect for the 4 of us. Our sons had their privacy in the downstairs bedroom. The photos are very accurate. The kitchen is well-stocked. The house has coolers, beach towels, beach chairs - everything you need! The pool deck is nice with great seating and superb views (the pool is quite small, so be sure you realize this if you wanted to spend a lot of time in the pool, this may not be it). The bathrooms are very nice and each have laundry facilities so that really helps - don't bother packing much. The location is fantastic - a 3 minute drive to town, or a short walk if you don't mind the uphill return trip. Jim and MaryEllen were both very responsive and super to deal with before and during our stay! Our only very slight complaint would be the smooshy soft beds with sloppy linens (worn out elastic on fitted sheets that don't stay fitted) and the spotty internet (none in the basement apartment and lost internet at times on the main floor)."

  • Best sunset on the island

"First trip to St John wanted to be close to town but have privacy. This perfectly designed house fit the bill. A very short walk to the middle of town, but far enough outside to be quiet and peaceful. Looks like it's right on a street, but is far enough up the hill to barely notice the few cars we saw while there. Nice to be right across from Gallows Point resort, easy access to excellent restaurant, little shop if you run out of necessities (wine, etc.) and a place to rent snorkeling gear, etc. Nicely, simply appointed. Great kitchen and seating areas in and out. Perfect rental for two couples. Can't wait to go back."

  • Paradise in Heaven

"Our family arrived to find that all the pictures were true in displaying the quality of this lovely large home/villa, a true paradise. The view is breath taking and it was truly hard to leave for a new beach each day with a rainbow arriving while at the scenic pool one day. To top off the home, you have your own wine cellar with all you need there with reasonable wine choices in which you use on the honor system. The entire back of the home, all bedrooms with breathtaking balcony views overlooking the ocean. One bedroom has it's own private balcony also in which there are no words!! Met with Dale, the owner and his friend to find they were friendly and very helpful with all of our questions. Dale's home sits high atop a mountain with natures sounds and ocean breeze, a magical vacation home awaiting all that venture to this area. Best beach, Trunk Bay, but don't miss many others all nestled close from Caneel Bay. Visit the Westin, only 5 minutes away for a massage to complete your heavenly week!"

  • Unforgettable!

"Not much to add from the other reviews other than it's hard to think of a way to improve on this villa. The view is jaw-dropping - high enough to see amazing sunrises over St John east end and Norman Island, close enough to Coral Harbor to see Biff or Jimmy getting ready to sail. And the villa faces directly down the Sir Francis Drake Channel, with Tortola to the left, and Norman, Peter and cays to the right, Virgin Gorda on the horizon. The villa is very comfortable, three comfortable air-conditioned bedrooms, one up and two down, each with private bath, plus fantastic great room, gourmet well-appointed kitchen and deluxe gas grill outside. The two full-length-of-the-house porches are beautifully furnished and each is fully screened in case of bugs, but at 600 feet elevation with constant breeze, there aren't many bugs. We loved the pool deck complete with outdoor shower, 6-person soaking spa and what must be the largest pool on the island. You must have 4-wheel drive and the drive up and down the hill is more exciting than an amusement park ride, but that can be said of most villas on the island. The best part about this perfect villa is that it's on St. John, and I can't imagine a more beautiful tropical island anyplace - we visited and snorkeled 13 separate beaches in 6 days - favorites were Salt Pond, Little Lameshur and Groutpan. We loved the relaxed, laid-back style in Coral Bay, getting to know some of the "colorful" local folks - we much preferred this side to the more uppity Cruz Bay side. Fantastic villa and unforgettable stay at Almost Heaven in America's Paradise."
