"The home was great, wrap around deck overlooking the Caribbean was fantastic. We were even able to see St. Croix and Vieques on a few of the days from the deck. You get privacy and convenience to Charlotte Amalie and Redhook. Karen was easy to work with and Joma was very helpful when needed. The home was everything we needed. We would recommend this home! I would recommend renting a car, we were happy we had one."Guest: Chris H. Date of Stay: April 2014 Review Submitted: April 25, 2014View listing
"We stayed at Captain's Walk for 9 days & enjoyed it very much. It was a very central location for us to be able to go sightseeing, shopping & to different restaurants. The view was beautiful overlooking the bay where all the cruise ships came & went. We felt very private & secure when staying at the house. The house was perfect for our large family of 9. It accomodated us nicely. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could think of. I would highly recommend this house. If we were going back to St.Thomas, I would definitley stay there again."Guest: Rosie & Dave Date of Stay: March 2014 Review Submitted: April 18, 2014View listing
"This condo was clean and well appointed and it is located on the 3rd level, just 30 feet above the crashing surf. The view over Bolongo Bay and resort was breathtaking. There are three restaurants within short walking distance and the food/drinks were outstanding. Music every night (plays until 10pm) and seen 6 weddings during our 9 days there. Miss Virgin Islands Gabby was our waitress one morning when we ate breakfast out at Lobster Grill (one of the 3 restuarants). The owner's were extremely friendly and answered any questions that came up quickly. This was our 5th stay on the island (we like to try different ones/areas) and this was our 1st at Nikki & Ed’s villa. Location was outstanding. We love this side of the island (easiest driving) and this villa was located half way to Red Hook or half way back to Havensight shopping area (perfect for what we wanted to do). With having 4 adults in this unit, we had no problems moving about, plenty of space except cooking, smaller kitchen made for 2 people only (that being the men). Plenty of towels, beach items, supplies and plenty of hot water. Drinks each morning and night out on the large balcony with plenty of seating. Birds visited us daily including humming birds. Beds very comfy with large closets and plenty of dresser space. Our last night we made it up to the hilltop pool to watch the amazing sunset with a cruise ship leaving, simply gorgeous. We also left our patio door open all night to hear the waves crashing in, amazing sound to hear all night long. I would highly recommend this villa to anyone and everyone including ourselves again."Guest: Renee E. Date of Stay: October 2014 Review Submitted: October 27, 2014View listing
"A great place to spend a week or few days! Everything was as we expected it to be and the position is perfect. Loved having 3 restaurants within walking distance and especially liked the Lobster Grill at the far end of the beach at Bolongo Bay Resort. Enjoyed the half day sail to Turtle Cove on the catamaran too. Definitely recommend hiring a car as there are lots of other bays and beaches to explore. We went to Avis downtown and had no problem."Guest: Barb Date of Stay: April 2014 Review Submitted: May 3, 2014View listing
South Side Travel Tips
The Advantages of Staying at South Side St. Thomas Vacation Rentals
St. Thomas is a beautiful island in the Caribbean which is particularly popular as a cruise ship port destination. The capital of St. Thomas and also the U.S. Virgin Islands is Charlotte Amalie; it is well known for its unrivalled shopping, particularly for jewelry and precious stones.
St. Thomas has some of the most beautiful white sand beaches around its shores and the calm clear waters at Magens Bay are considered some of the best in the world for scuba diving.
Renting a vacation home at South Side St. Thomas often appeals to those who are enjoying a family vacation. With a relaxed lifestyle, it can be easier for those with children to stay independently rather than in a hotel. Vacation rentals have as many bedrooms and bathrooms as you require, making it easy for everyone to enjoy their own private space.
Vacation homes often have their own private swimming pool, sun terrace and gardens which are ideal for sitting out and enjoying breakfast before heading for the beach. An afternoon siesta for little ones is a great idea and much easier in a vacation rental home than in a resort.
Those looking for a romantic vacation or quiet honeymoon will also enjoy the privacy that a private villa affords. Comfortable, well located and fully equipped, vacation rentals are often the best way to enjoy your stay on St Thomas.
Things to do Around South Side St. Thomas Resort Rentals
Although most people think shopping in Charlotte Amalie or spending time on the beach are all that St. Thomas has to offer, there are a host of things to do for those who like to combine a little adventure with their travels.
There are beautiful panoramas from Drake’s Seat, Blackbeard’s Castle, the Tramway and other beauty spots around St Thomas. Charlotte Amalie has some interesting Colonial architecture, several museums and a large aquarium. The Seven Arches historic home is a pleasant attraction on Government Hill which incidentally you can climb up. The steps are known as 99 steps but if you count, you will find there are actually 103!
Getting to the Beautiful South Side St. Thomas Villas
The main airport serving St. Thomas is the Cyril E. King Airport to the west of Charlotte Amalie. It is very easy to get a taxi from the airport to your South Side vacation rental.
Direct flights are available from New York City and take three hours and 45 minutes while Miami has a shorter flight of just two hours and 30 minutes. Connecting flights via San Juan, Puerto Rico are available but they are generally more expensive.
American Airlines, Delta, Cape Air, United and Continental Airlines all fly direct to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Places to Visit Around St Thomas
A day in the busy capital city, Charlotte Amalie, is a must during your vacation. The red-roofed, whitewashed houses make a charming sight. As well as excellent shopping, the town has many historic sights. Fort Christian is an interesting 17th-century building which was constructed by the Danes. Indeed much of the island’s cultural past is reflected in its architecture with Spanish patios, Dutch-style doors, Danish red-tile roofs and French wrought iron grills.
A pleasant escape from the busy resorts on St. Thomas is available just a ferry-ride away on St. John which is a far more laid-back and uncommercial island. Take a taxi tour around the island or relax on Trunk Bay Beach.
Honeymoon Beach is a palm-shaded area offering excellent snorkeling, swimming, waterskiing and other beach activities. Take the ferry from Crown Bay Marina across to Water Island and enjoy a perfect day on the beach.
