  • Wonderful jungle house

"My extended family group of four persons stayed at this beautiful house for two nights. The house is located in an enclosed compound in the jungle a few miles from town. There are several fruit trees surrounding the house. We were awakended both mornings by a howler monkey and other jungle sounds. The pool was great. During our stay the washing machine was broken. Only two of the bedrooms are air conditioned. The pictures of the house do not do it justice. The house is great! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there."

  • Once in a lifetime view, secluded location

"We stayed on the upper level of the house in mid April on recommendation from the Nepenthe Hotel close by. The 2 day stay in the upper level of this house was one of the highlights of our Costa Rica trip. The view from the upper level was once in a lifetime for us. Everybody involved was helpful and friendly so a big thank you from us! Kind regards from Germany Felix"

  • Vacation of a Lifetime

"My wife & I visited CR 5 years ago but we stayed in resorts & used taxis so we didn’t have an opportunity to spend a lot of time with the locals. This time around we wanted to bring our 4 children (ages 10-17), rent a house & car & spend more time with the locals. We knew that we wanted to stay the majority of our trip in the La Fortuna area. After reading all of the reviews on VRBO & speaking to Esteban, we decide to spend 10 of our 12 nights in CR at the Centaura Ranch (30 min. drive to La Fortuna). We stayed in Villa Frutales & it accommodated our family of 6 very comfortably. Having a full kitchen was very convenient, the satellite TV & WIFI were very reliable, the A/C in the bedrooms were ice cold & the pool was very refreshing. The scenery at the ranch and surrounding country is breathtaking. From the beautiful flowers, fruit trees, fluttering butterflies, hummingbirds and parrots I have never seen a more relaxing place. The stables are immaculate, the horses (& pot belly pigs & water buffalo) are very well taken care of. The family dog, Gitana (Gypsy in Spanish), was very sweet & she enjoyed being spoiled by our kids:-) On the ranch, we rode the ATV’s two days & the horses one day. The ATV’s are very powerful (700 cc’s) & very well maintained. Our bilingual guide, Danny, was awesome & very friendly. It was just our party on these excursions so he personalized the trips just for us. He took us mudding through sugar cane fields, took us for a dip in a natural hot springs & to a local swimming hole during our time ATV’ing. Best of all was the personal service that we received from Esteban in planning & during our trip. He arranged every activity that we participated in during our stay at his ranch (rental car, transfers, white water rafting, rappelling, zip lining, ATV’ing, horseback riding & hot air ballooning). He set us up with different companies for each activity to suit our family’s needs. The level 4 white water rafting was a blast; the rappelling was very exhilarating but we all agreed that the hot air balloon ride was the best part of our trip to CR. The bottom of the basket was literally inches away from touching the top of the tree canopy. It’s an amazing way to see the rain forest! Esteban y Monica: Muchas gracias por su hospitalidad. Hasta la próxima y Pura Vida! The Lozano Family from San Diego, California"

  • Totally Blissful!

"True Bliss! I had an amazing 3 days @ the Hacienda Encantada guest house. I needed to regroup in my life and this was the place to go! When I arrived I was surrounded by the beauty of nature. I was able to see the Arenal Volcano from relaxing in a hammock on the patio. I layed there breathing it all in, enjoying the sounds of birds. The guest house is so cute, it had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. I felt very safe there, as I traveled alone. I loved waking up to the beautiful property with all the different sounds of nature. I even heard holler monkeys. I enjoyed walking the property experiencing new things to the eye, very cool insects & plants. I took a lovely walk down the path to the rainforest below the house. In a short amount of time I was in the area, I was able to enjoy a lot of things nearby. I would recommend eating @ Essence. I had a wonderful vegetarian meal & had the pleasure of helping make dessert with everyone dining. I had the most amazing adrenalin rush in my life @ Sky Zip lines . Then I went & relaxed at Los Lagos hot spring pools. I was also able to go into the village nearby & have a tour of the snake zoo. After that I found a cool place called Pizza Johns, great pizza! I enjoyed meeting some the local people, the nicest people I've ever met. My last day, I drove a little around Arenal Lake. The lake is located not too far from the guesthouse. I spotted some really cool birds, if you're into birdwatching I highly recommend it. Last thing I did was, go on the hanging bridges through the jungle. Words cannot express how amazing it was. Thanks Nita & Marty for the pleasure of sharing your dream with me & all the great recommendations. I can't wait to come back and see your finished home. With this experience, I was able to relax & meditate for the next chapter of my life. Pura Vida!"
