  • March is Marvellous in Atenas

"My wife and I had a wonderful three month stay in Costa Rica, January through March in 2015. We stayed in three different locations and enjoyed our time at Hisano’s more than anywhere else. It is centrally located in Costa Rica, just outside Atenas, on an excellent bus route, about 20 minutes to Town for a cost of 350 colonies, about 75 cents. We used Hisano’s as a base and travelled frequently to San Jose for the symphony and museum experiences, as well as to the Pacific coast beaches, down to Jaco and Quepos/Manual Antonio National Park...we did day trips as well as overnight adventures. We rented the bungalow at Hisano’s and found it to be immaculate...this is rare in Costa Rica. The insects were controlled regularly through weekly maid service and included fresh linens and a thorough cleaning. The cabina is fully equipped, with two ample bedrooms, large living/dining room area, great kitchen, adequate bathroom, huge covered patio area with table, chairs and a hammock that I couldn’t keep my wife out of. It is modern, bright white tile throughout, attractively decorated inside with Wi-Fi and a cd player. There was no cable TV but we enjoyed Netflicks and other programming through our computers, so not a big deal especially when you consider local programming. The grounds surrounding the accommodation are beautiful and well maintained, even throughout the dry season, so the hundreds of plants carefully selected and planted by Hisano herself were always green and blooming. Most other places the grass is brown and plants suffering a bit from the lack of rain. The pool is a short walk down the path and was small but adequate in size and always immaculate. You will find Hisano herself to be a warm and welcoming host who respects your privacy but is always there when you need her and is always willing to help. We enjoyed our stay immensely and would recommend this accommodation to anyone."

  • I am still dreaming about being at Villa Frutales

"This was a wonderful place to stay. We really enjoyed staying outside of La Fortuna. It was so beautiful and away from the hustle and bustle of La Fortuna. The villa had everything in it and the beds were so comfortable. We loved waking up to the birds and nature around us. We used a grocery store that is only about 10 minutes from the villa and cooked most of our meals which was convenient. Esteban was an excellent host. He got us an excellent rate at Alamo for our rental car and that went very smoothly for both pick up and drop off of the car. He also sat down with us when we arrived and helped us plan out our entire stay and then made all of the reservations for us and it went perfectly. We did a ATV trip to a small semi private hot spring, then zip lining, and canyoning. Everything went smoothly for us. I would recommend a 4WD vehicle if you stay here since the roads are unpaved and rocky. I highly recommend staying at this property."

  • Three weeks was not enough.

"My only complaint was having to come home. The casita is lovely, all the comforts of home in a gorgeous mountaintop location. We used the casita as our home base and made various day and overnight trips to the many parks and beaches nearby. Norm and Collie were most helpful in our on-the-fly planning, and in spotting various birds, plants, stars and planets right in our front yard. Internet access at the casita is excellent. We were able to watch netflix with no problem. The farmer's market in San Ramon is excellent, and a great place to practice those Spanish phrases you've been working on. Rent with confidence."

  • great house, beautiful view

"It's a great house- plenty of space and very clean. After the first day of rain, we had beautiful, clear days and the view of the volcano was breathtaking. Like the other reviewers mentioned, the house is on a very bumpy road. It is a small town, so getting a taxi isn't as easy as other parts of the country. If possible, arrange for a 4x4 rental car."
