  • LOVED THIS PLACE!!

"We stayed here with our son and his girlfriend and had an absolutely wonderful time. The home is as lovely as it looks in the pictures! What we didn't realize is that the two bedrooms are in two separate buildings - making it perfect for two couples giving each great privacy. The main house is in the middle. The view is spectacular and we loved sitting on the veranda at night watching the lighting show off in the distance! We took advantage of the offer to have someone come in an cook for us and the meal was delicious and it made for a relaxing time for us! I tend to be skeptical of reviews and if you are like me, I hope you'll take this review to heart!! Thank you so much for a very memorable time!"

  • A piece of paradise

"We arrived at Pica Flora having spent the previous few months in northwestern Costa Rica on the beach. We were a bit worried about how we would like being away from the beach but I have to say this home is the best we've stayed in during our three annual winter trips to Costa Rica! From the moment we arrived in downtown Atenas everything has been fabulous. We met Andrew and he showed us up to the house (aka our little piece of heaven). The first thing that struck us were the beautiful views of the valley. The property is lush and well laid out. The main house kitchen has everything you need for a short or long stay. The master bed is very comfortable (a huge plus in our book), and the whole house is scrupulously clean. There are views from every side of the wrap-around terrace and the view of the lights in the valley at night from the master bedroom is spectacular. The pool is beautiful for swimming, is well maintained, and you can hear the toucans while having your morning swim. The weekly staff looking after the house are very kind and thorough. We had a problem with a flat tire and one of the gardeners hooked us up with a garage that completed the repair while we waited! The casita rooms are clean and quiet, with comfortable beds. Andrew has been incredibly helpful throughout our stay, responding very quickly to any questions or concerns. He is a real asset. Our only regret is that, due to some events back home in Canada, we have to leave earlier than planned. We would highly recommend "The Bamboo House" for anyone wanting a luxurious getaway in a beautiful setting. Atenas is only a short taxi ride (2-3$) down the hill"

  • Beyond our expectations!

"From the get go Sam and Roxanne were a pleasure to work with on our first visit to Costa Rica! We are so grateful for the thoroughness and professionalism extended to us! The house is simply gorgeous! So much so that it was hard to leave every day to explore all that Costa Rica has to offer! The design of the house was warm and welcoming and all details well thought out! We enjoyed morning coffee poolside watching birds and butterflies feed on the bananas and the numerous iguana sunning on the roof or driveway. We took advantage of the view offered on top of the guest house each evening to star gaze and enjoy the twinkling lights of outlying towns. The central location of the house made our chosen attractions easy to reach. Sam recommended that we utilize the cell phone and GPS he has available and we are certainly glad we did as most of the roads are unmarked. We ventured to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, Poas Volcano and Jaco. We are already making plans for our return and while what we will do this next trip is up in the air, our choice to stay at the Luxury Castle is a definite!"

  • The lovliest place you could ever imagine....

"My husband and I have traveled quite a bit over the years, but because we wanted to do something really special for our 25th wedding anniversary, we chose this villa for a 17-day stay. We could not have made a better choice! Once we decided that this was where we wanted to be, (we did a LOT of searching on VRBO!), Joe was incredibly accommodating with his prompt replies to our inquiries. Arrangements were finalized in only a matter of days. After months of anticipation, we found the home and surroundings to be even more beautiful than the pictures conveyed. Never have we experienced accommodations that so perfectly blend the indoors with the outdoors to create an atmosphere that truly renews the spirit. Atenas was a great pivotal point to be situated and is within close proximity to the airport which we appreciated because several family members and friends joined us at different times throughout our stay. We traveled north to Arenal where we went on several excellent tours (canoeing, ziplining, hiking and biking) and drove to the Pacific Coast several times to enjoy the beaches some of which were great for swimming and others for shelling and exploring tide pools. Atenas has a number of excellent authentic restaurants and everyone we encountered was extremely friendly despite our very limited knowledge of Spanish. Though we didn’t see him often, we really enjoyed Elias (the caretaker) who was ever pleasant and always willing to help us with whatever we needed. The pool, hot tub and rocking chairs on the porch were favorite spots to spend our time; we enjoyed cooking our own meals in the gourmet kitchen (following trips to the Friday Farmer’s Market), eating dinner on the porch while overlooking the city lights, sleeping in the exceptionally comfortable beds, trying to find the chattering gekos, listening to the birds (and the most beautiful wind chime ever!), and marveling at the breathtaking views from every window! Everything on the property is laid out so well (the pavilions, the pool and hot tub, the gazebo); the landscaping, lighting and Indonesian decor all provide for an incredibly relaxing and peaceful environment, and the amenities accommodate every need you could possibly think of. Joe and Nancy haven’t missed a beat in designing a retreat that restores the soul! We know you will love it!"
