  • Hermosa casa , hermoso hogar.

  • Hone and Slavica

"This is the ultimate vacation in a beautiful country of Costa Rica. Nothing is more precious than friends & family gathering to create memory of a lifetime. Designed with such in mind, this house is located on the top of a hill, and has stunning views, in a secluded, gated, and private neighborhood, yet it is only 20 minutes to drive to area beaches & other attractions. The bedrooms are spacious, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the back yard and pool area are amazing! We enjoyed coming back to this calming house after busy days of sightseeing. Pool area is so pretty and green/turquoise water is refreshingly cooler than the ocean. Beautiful birds and star gazers are in heaven with no pollution to night sky. The only weird thing is that sun sets at 6pm....equator is really close...so 12h of daylight is all you get...we got used to it real quick and enjoyed getting up at 7:30 and fell asleep way earlier than back at home in Canada. The home feels very secure and has a safe in the bedroom so all the stuff is 100% ok to leave. We however did not lock almost anything. Sometimes the pictures of the house don't really live up to the expectations but that was not the case with this house in San Mateo. As soon as you enter the house, you are blown away by the open layout and beauty of the house/patio/pool and the panoramic views from the patio! I can truly say this is the most beautiful house we have ever lived in! We had the most amazing time staying at this house! The house is even nicer than a hotel, everything is so well organized, not only in the house, but the owners also send you a complete and very helpful welcome guide. Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations. This home is truly a gem and we will definitely come back. Hone"

  • Review of property near Alajuelo, Costa Rica

"We stayed at this property for six weeks. If I could give a separate review for the service we received from the owner/manager (Victoria & Guillermo) of this property, it would have to be 5 stars+++. When we had a bit of difficulty with the wireless service on arrival, within a very short time, the owner sent a very knowledgable and pleasant young man to help us. Same story with the microwave that quit working - it was replaced with a new one within about an hour. The house was great, the back yard amazing (loved the lime tree; it provided us with refreshing lime-ade for the whole time), surrounding scenery is spectacular, weather was incredible, and the people warm and friendly. It was an easy drive to shopping, and to the Doka Coffee Plantation, Poas Volcano, and the Lapaz Waterfalls, along with some great restaurants near the falls. We enjoyed a few good meals at the sodas in San Isidro. If there was one very small thing I would add for long term stays, it would be to have a vacuum cleaner available. We would stay at this place again in a heartbeat. We were very sad to lock up and leave on our last day."

  • Peace among the butterflies and birds.

"We live in San Jose and Atenas is one of our favourite places to visit, it is such a gorgeous little town with so much of what makes Costa Rica unique. The cottage is the perfect place to stay. The views are incredible and the floor to ceiling windows mean you can enjoy them from the second you wake until you decide to sleep. On the first stay we spent the entire day on the balcony bird watching and butterfly spotting. The gardens are mature and attract a lot of wildlife so you won't want to go anywhere. The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing visit; fully stocked kitchen, fast wifi, netflix on a massive tv, bath to properly chill out, really comfortable bed - amazing! On the Sunday we spent the day in the hotel grounds as part of the price. You can choose from 3 pools, play tennis, mini-golf or just enjoy a beer and, again, the wildlife. If you are coming to Atenas I 100% recommend you stay in this beautiful property and enjoy the peace and quiet that makes Costa Rica so 'pura vida'! :)"

Vacations in Costa Rica Delve into the Past

The history of Costa Rica dates as far back as the pre-Columbian era. The area was inhabited by natives, even when the Spanish settlers found the land in 1650. Though there were small uprisings, the natives of Costa Rica were very welcoming to settlers sharing their lands. Religious uprisings did occur when Monsignor don Esteban Lorenzo de Tristan wanted to erect a parish. Your vacations in Costa Rica will allow you to see this parish along with other churches from the past. A good idea is to plan out your trip to the churches while having breakfast at Alajuela resorts.
