  • Fantastic place to be!

"We have certainly enjoyed our stay at the Finca. The house is beautiful, spacious and finished with lovely decorations. To be able to swim in our own pool is a treat! Easy access to town and other places in Costa Rica. We have made this our home base making day excursions to the beach, San José and all of the great towns in the Central Valley. The gardens are beautifully kept and we have enjoyed the fruits that grow on the property. Thanks and we hope to come back!"

  • Beautiful Casa in the Central Valley

"Our family of 6, 3 sisters and our husbands, spent 6 weeks in the Central Valley of this beautiful country, about 4 miles from the town of Atenas. The Casa Doughty we rented truly added to the enjoyment of our visit. The owners, Dianne and Steve, are a very gracious couple, always there for us when we needed assistance. Their property managers, Marion and Aad, picked us up at the airport and provided us with a lot of good information about the country. They are wonderful people and are available for tours. If you read the earlier reviews, you already have a good awareness of the property. It is truly beautifull, comfortable, and quite homey. We were impressed with the cooking tools available in the newly remodeled kitchen. More than accommodating. The views are spectacular. The grounds are beatified with lush greenery and beautiful flowers. It's very private. The entrance is gated. Mario, the gardener is a real treat. We tried to teach a little English and we learned a little Spanish from him. If you choose this Casa, be prepared to enjoy a wonderful assortment of fresh fruits daily. As they say in Costa Rica, Pura Vida."

  • Hone and Slavica

"This is the ultimate vacation in a beautiful country of Costa Rica. Nothing is more precious than friends & family gathering to create memory of a lifetime. Designed with such in mind, this house is located on the top of a hill, and has stunning views, in a secluded, gated, and private neighborhood, yet it is only 20 minutes to drive to area beaches & other attractions. The bedrooms are spacious, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the back yard and pool area are amazing! We enjoyed coming back to this calming house after busy days of sightseeing. Pool area is so pretty and green/turquoise water is refreshingly cooler than the ocean. Beautiful birds and star gazers are in heaven with no pollution to night sky. The only weird thing is that sun sets at 6pm....equator is really close...so 12h of daylight is all you get...we got used to it real quick and enjoyed getting up at 7:30 and fell asleep way earlier than back at home in Canada. The home feels very secure and has a safe in the bedroom so all the stuff is 100% ok to leave. We however did not lock almost anything. Sometimes the pictures of the house don't really live up to the expectations but that was not the case with this house in San Mateo. As soon as you enter the house, you are blown away by the open layout and beauty of the house/patio/pool and the panoramic views from the patio! I can truly say this is the most beautiful house we have ever lived in! We had the most amazing time staying at this house! The house is even nicer than a hotel, everything is so well organized, not only in the house, but the owners also send you a complete and very helpful welcome guide. Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations. This home is truly a gem and we will definitely come back. Hone"

Vacations in Costa Rica Delve into the Past

The history of Costa Rica dates as far back as the pre-Columbian era. The area was inhabited by natives, even when the Spanish settlers found the land in 1650. Though there were small uprisings, the natives of Costa Rica were very welcoming to settlers sharing their lands. Religious uprisings did occur when Monsignor don Esteban Lorenzo de Tristan wanted to erect a parish. Your vacations in Costa Rica will allow you to see this parish along with other churches from the past. A good idea is to plan out your trip to the churches while having breakfast at Alajuela resorts.
