  • Amazing!!

"Absolutely beautiful yard!! The house was amazing and in a great location. The pool and outdoor grill space were awesome to have and we used them both a lot. Walking distance to the beach and to the fruit stand which was really awesome. We will definitely rent this property again!!"

  • Playa Potrero paradise

"Our family of 7 (six adults and our 16 month old grandson) spent a glorious week in this beautiful ocean front home at Playa Potrero! Prior to our trip we traded e-mails with the owner who gave us a lot of valuable information. Rita of Tropical Homes of Costa Rica (property manager) greeted us at her office when we arrived from the airport and escorted us to the home. A notebook in the home had great information about grocery stores, restaurants and activities. This 4 bedroom home (3 kings and 2 twin beds with 3 1/2 baths) was perfect for our group. The kitchen was well equipped as we cooked many meals there. Towels, including beach towels, were provided which was very helpful. The patio and pool area was our favorite place to relax and especially to watch the beautiful Pacific sunsets. We had fabulous food; a lot of restaurants within walking distance. We spent a day paddle boarding at Las Catalinas beach and had a fabulous lunch there as well. The guys chartered a boat for a day of fishing, catching bait as they trolled out of the bay. Some of the group surfed at Tamarindo and we saw a surfing competition at Tamarindo as well. Tropical Homes of Costa Rica created a custom hike close to one of the volcanos, including a mud bath and a delightful swim under a waterfall. We also rode the Monkey Trail (road not as bad as we had heard) and indeed saw monkeys. Our last meal was at the Sugar Beach Hotel where we experienced the most beautiful sunset we had ever seen and the food was absolutely delicious! What a pleasant surprise to meet Angie and Mino. Angie worked very hard to keep our home clean and tidy! Mino was a wonderful gardener, pool caretaker and security guard for us. We were quite pleased with their services!!! We highly recommend this home for your next vacation to Costa Rica!"

  • Best Family Vacation Yet!

"Villa Bougainvillea is absolutely immaculate, beautiful and has all of the amenities you are looking for in a "home away from home". Although there are other properties near Villa Bougainvillea, the landscaping makes it feel completely private and comfortable. The ocean waves are audible from the terrace or the living room if you leave the patio doors open. There are 2 private "en-suites" which make it great for large groups / families that want their own privacy. For travelers going during "dry" season, please note that at times your water will be turned off. This happens not just in Villa Bougainvillea, but throughout Guanacaste, especially the last month of dry season - which is when we traveled there. It is usually turned off in the early morning for about an hour. Not too inconvenient. If you travel any other time, you should not run into this problem. Location is great and "centralized" to get to many other places easily. "Special Places of Guanacaste" concierge services were outstanding and made excursion arrangements ahead of time and also last minute. They did a wonderful job, and our family did not miss out on any Costa Rican adventure. The locals around Villa Bougainvillea are so pleasant, and the nearby Restaurants were great and have some live free entertainment - fire throwing-belly dancing-flying yoga and more. Make sure you explore the volcanoes, go white water rafting, surfing, horse back riding and ATVing. ATVing is so much more fun in Costa Rica than anywhere in the U.S. Also, if you think that it is impossible to surf, guess again. Special Places hooked us up with a SUPERBOLOUS surf instructor, and my kids and I actually "rode the waves" for the first time ever. EXHILARATING! Villa Bougainvillea is HUGE, beautifully decorated, has the most comfortable sleeping arrangements, incredible view, large and clean pool and a wonderful waterfall in entrance foyer that has great ambiance. Any family would enjoy there stay here!"

  • Magnificent sunsets

"We traveled with a group of 11, ages 4 through 76. We had plenty of space and comfortable sleeping arrangements. Erika the maid arrived daily at around 8 and cleaned all the rooms and did some laundry. A nightwatchman was there from 6pm until 6am. He maintained the garden, cleaned the pool and hung around the pool deck while we slept. They were both pleasant but spoke no English. The outdoor kitchen and pool deck was our living room for the week, from sun up sun down. We paid $350 for a cook, Andreas. She prepared a great guacamole and salsa for hungry travelers, and had already grocery shopped for the first day's dinner. We sent a menu ideas for the first few days via email, based on the menu available on the beach house website, but this may have been too much detail. Two of us sat with her Sunday morning to develop the menu for the week. She spoke a little English but communication was challenging, and she asked us to be very specific about menu and timing, but offered little guidance. Two of us accompanied her on the one grocery store trip near Tamarindo (we took a taxi). We probably could not have found everything we needed without her! She made some nice meals but I think if we could have communicated more easily, we may have hit upon more of her specialties. The breakfast on the last day, huevos rancheros, was delicious. We have never had someone cook for us and it was a wonderful luxury. Consider suggesting a daily menu of tried and true meals for groups that are the house chef's specialty, and just letting us decide if we want it. Coco Loco bar and restaurant is literally right next door. Tasty drinks, music and a way to meet new people. We could leave the teens at the house to watch the smaller kids while the parents had a a happy hour cocktail - we could see them on the deck from our bar stools! It was about a 10 minute walk to the Flamingo Beach plaza with Marie's restaurant, an ice cream stand, souvenirs, tour operator and convenience store (this is where we shopped for beer). A car is not necessary at this property but I missed having one. There were many spots a few miles up the road, the beach house restaurant to the Shack to a fruit stand, we would have liked to explore. There were no bike rentals so this wasn't an option. A few beat up taxi's hang out outside Maries, but they get expensive since once they take you somewhere, they need to wait for you to finish to bring you home."
