  • Absolutely Beautiful Villa!!!! We had the time of our lives thanks to Tom & Maria!!!!

"My husband and I, along with another couple stayed in at the Casa Grande villa and we simply had a fabulous, incredible time! The home itself is even more beautiful than the pictures, (if that is possible!) and was incredibly clean with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The view was breathtaking!! The grounds of the villas property are meticulously maintained with attention to every small detail. Perhaps the most important and impressive part about Arenal Villas is the fact that Tom and Maria helped us so much with planning our daily itinerary. There were numerous emails to Tom/Maria ahead of the trip which were all promptly answered. They recommended a driver (Emily and Balo who were incredible!), excursions, restaurants and tours. We were not disappointed with any of their recommendations. Our drivers, Balo and his wife Emily (whom Tom and Maria recommended) were so patient and wonderful with us and made sure we went to all of the right places and knew how to get us there! They even took us to a special souvenir shop to be sure we weren't over-paying for our souvenirs!! We truly felt like royalty staying at the Villa and having such wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable and patients hosts!!! None of us spoke Spanish and it was never a problem! Thank you Tom and Maria and staff for the trip of a lifetime!"

  • Good secluded place for some peace and quiet

"Beautiful setting! Loved having coffee and tea on the veranda. Nicely setup roomy condo. It was great to have a washer and dryer as we got some refreshed clothes mid-trip. Some tour guides (though older) were available. Nice neighbors--we lost power due to a storm--luckily they called the power company to get things in motion to get this fixed quickly. Ed was helpful, meeting us to handover the keys. Nice Italian place and breakfast place a couple of miles South. Bed wasn't the most comfortable, and didn't quite feel like home. Would have been nice if there was aan active phone. All in all, good place and would go there again."

  • More than advertised

"Casa Gavilan ranks TOPS on m VBRO rental experiences. This property is gorgeous. The pictures do not do it justice. Ed was so helpful. We were delayed arriving which caught us having to drive the windy roads at dark, nerve racking. Ed met us along the road and guided us in. He also had us the essentials for breakfast and feeding the birds, our favorite activity. As I said the house is amazing, superior decor, extremely clean, wonderful landscaping and views. The wildlife kept us entertained. I think our biggest food expense was fresh fruit, for us and the birds. The Arenal location is a little off the beaten path, perfect for R&R. We stayed for three weeks, took on 2-3 adventures a week. Otherwise we stayed at "home" relaxing at the pool, walking the neighborhood trail, or maybe a trip to town for bite to eat and an Imperial beer. Locals are so friendly. Definitely eat at Moya`s and hang at Karacters. Pick up some homemade yogurt or cheese at El Estatblo. Our faves were back 142 towards Tillaran, La Rana is less than 2 km for breakfast and dinner, love Mr. Riner. The food is very good and he feeds the birds by hand. Further down the road is Casa Delagua for breakfast and lunch. We booked most of our activities through Los Camps in La Fortuna. They are associated with Los Lagos Hotel and Spa next door, with every booked activity you get a free pass to the Hotel pools, springs, restaurants and bars. That felt great after the Sky Trek zipping. I could go on forever. We'll be back."

  • A great first time in Costa Rica!

"My boyfriend and I decided to take our January vacation in Costa Rica. Not only was this our first time traveling to CR, but also our first time using VRBO. We were very nervous but we had no issues using VRBO and we got our full deposit back the day we left the property-so if you have any concerns, don't! When choosing our property, we wanted a mix of good tourist area where we would feel comfortable with things to do but without the super touristy resort like feel. With this property and area, I feel like we accomplished that! The night we arrived, Franklin showed us to the property. Both him and Ricardo are very nice and accessible. Whenever we contacted Ricardo, either before or during our trip, he was very quick to respond via phone call or email! He was also very helpful with recommending things to do etc. The house itself is also great- it is located in a gated area, which made me feel safe and secure. A car is definitely needed for this property, preferably a 4 wheel drive or SUV (something with some clearance) as the roads in CR are not all fully paved. We managed fine with a sedan but would have felt better in an SUV, especially in the rain. (Also, most activities and such are definitely driving distance) The house was great with a master bedroom/bath and deck upstairs; another bedroom/bath downstairs; kitchen with utensils/bowls/etc; another deck off the living room which is gives you amazing sunset views! The nearby town Nuevo Arenal (5 minute drive) has a grocery store, a bank and numerous restaurants with CR food, Italian, American and German food (so a great variety). The Windcatcher and German bakery were great breakfast spots. Los Platillos, Moyas and Tinajas (Tinajas is 5 min out of town on the lake) are great for lunch and dinner! As far as activities, we drove to La Fortuna (35 minute drive) to see the waterfalls, go zip lining, hot springs, hanging bridges and hiking. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this property with Ricardo!"
