"Beautiful setting! Loved having coffee and tea on the veranda. Nicely setup roomy condo. It was great to have a washer and dryer as we got some refreshed clothes mid-trip. Some tour guides (though older) were available.
Nice neighbors--we lost power due to a storm--luckily they called the power company to get things in motion to get this fixed quickly.
Ed was helpful, meeting us to handover the keys.
Nice Italian place and breakfast place a couple of miles South.
Bed wasn't the most comfortable, and didn't quite feel like home. Would have been nice if there was aan active phone.
All in all, good place and would go there again."

"My wife and I chose Casa Gavilan as a launching point for our 4 days in Arenal (and first stay ever in Costa Rica). We wanted a place that would accommodate the two of us and our three teen-aged boys comfortably, be accessible to Arenal and all the surrounding activities and then be there for a quite place to enjoy our evenings. Casa Gavilan delivered!
We flew into LIR and drove the 2 hours to Casa Gavilan. We were greeted by Ed, the Property Manager. Ed (even though he went to Duke) was quite kind and very helpful in getting us acquainted with the house, the property, where to go for things in Nuevo Arenal and what outfits to use for our activities while in the area. Ed connected us to Chef Jeff, who, on short notice (our fault), came to the house our first night, prepared a wonderful dinner for all of us and made us feel that much more comfortable. Ed even helped me manage a slightly sticky parking situation I got into with a local establishment.
Casa Gavilan is situated about 1 mile from the main road circling the Lake in a very well established neighborhood with similar houses called Las Flores. The lots are all large enough to provide plenty of personal privacy. The house was plenty spacious and had all of the conveniences we needed. The pool was a great hit on the first night, as were the many species of local birds that frequented the property. Agree with other reviewers that the pictures don't do the property justice. We would have enjoyed a larger view of the lake, but that didn't detract from our stay in any way (first world problem :-)).
Downtown Nuevo Arenal is about a ten minute drive from the house. The main activities of the larger Arenal area -- various hot springs, Arenal volcano park, hanging bridges, ziplining, etc are all a 30-45 minute drive from the house. For our taste and preferences, we were very happy to have chosen Casa Gavilan and the 30-45 minute drive compared to staying in hotels/etc that were embedded in the Arenal activity area.
Wonderful property, Ed's top notch service and being close enough to all that Arenal has to offer while having a quite place to call home for a few days are why I recommend Casa Gavilan to you!"

"We, a party of 6, stayed at Stephanie and Ron's beautiful gem for a total of 13 nights. We loved the layout and space available to us, especially the big living room/kitchen area and the deck. Getting to it at night can be challenging since the "Turtle Cove" sign is partially damaged. Jorge, the property manager, was kind enough to wait for our delayed arrival because we got lost a few times. :)
Unfortunately, the weather wasn't that great but the never-ending winds were just right for the die-hart windsurfers amongst us. It's important though to let new tenants know that the road to the property is a dirt road so that people can make decisions about the type of car and car insurance to get when coming to stay here. Nevertheless, it was an okay enough road with a regular car.
Thank you again, Stephanie and Ron, for letting us stay at your beautiful property! We would definitely recommend this place this to others who want to stay near Ticowinds or who do not mind driving 45 min to see the volcano, go on hikes, or enjoy the hot springs."

"My boyfriend and I decided to take our January vacation in Costa Rica. Not only was this our first time traveling to CR, but also our first time using VRBO. We were very nervous but we had no issues using VRBO and we got our full deposit back the day we left the property-so if you have any concerns, don't!
When choosing our property, we wanted a mix of good tourist area where we would feel comfortable with things to do but without the super touristy resort like feel. With this property and area, I feel like we accomplished that! The night we arrived, Franklin showed us to the property. Both him and Ricardo are very nice and accessible. Whenever we contacted Ricardo, either before or during our trip, he was very quick to respond via phone call or email! He was also very helpful with recommending things to do etc.
The house itself is also great- it is located in a gated area, which made me feel safe and secure. A car is definitely needed for this property, preferably a 4 wheel drive or SUV (something with some clearance) as the roads in CR are not all fully paved. We managed fine with a sedan but would have felt better in an SUV, especially in the rain. (Also, most activities and such are definitely driving distance) The house was great with a master bedroom/bath and deck upstairs; another bedroom/bath downstairs; kitchen with utensils/bowls/etc; another deck off the living room which is gives you amazing sunset views!
The nearby town Nuevo Arenal (5 minute drive) has a grocery store, a bank and numerous restaurants with CR food, Italian, American and German food (so a great variety). The Windcatcher and German bakery were great breakfast spots. Los Platillos, Moyas and Tinajas (Tinajas is 5 min out of town on the lake) are great for lunch and dinner!
As far as activities, we drove to La Fortuna (35 minute drive) to see the waterfalls, go zip lining, hot springs, hanging bridges and hiking.
DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this property with Ricardo!"
