  • Great Home in a Great Area!

"This is great home in a great area. Wonderful design layout to provide space and safety. Rebecca was great and arranged horse back riding and an ATV tour that will not be forgotten. Damiras, the cook, is a must because her food is awesome and having it prepared at this home is special. This area is perfect for getting off the grid and away from large hotels. I would recommend this home to anyone. We will be back!"

  • A wonderful vacation home but not for everyone

"We spent a lovely relaxing week in this villa with our 3 adult children. The magnificent view from the pool & terrace area is breath taking. The property is well equipped, well maintained and very spacious but has obviously been well used e.g the towels were quite old and it would have been useful had there been different ones for pool and house use. Some of the glass ware had also seen better days. There is excellent WIFI reception. The house is situated on the hillside with magnificent views overlooking Playa Guiones far below and is cool and airy during the heat of the day. It is reached via a long driveway through the trees ; while we were there none of the neighbouring properties (the closest of which was about 100 metres away) were occupied adding to the sense of isolation. I found this together with the security measures (there is no alarm) rather unnerving. Although there were grills and bars on all of the external windows and doors many of the doors themselves were unlocked which seemed a little strange. We raised this with both the lovely maid and property manager who seemed unconcerned. I would have been very unhappy at the property had my children been younger. The large master suite is on the same level as the kitchen and both internal and external living spaces while the other two bedrooms and bathrooms are accessed via a long outside staircase at the bottom of which is a metal door that has to be separately locked. I also don't think that the pool terrace would be particularly safe for very young children. It was wonderful to wake in the morning to the sound of the troop of howler monkeys crossing the property and to watch the amazing variety of birds ( including vultures that came to drink in the pool !)After 10 days travelling throughout Costa Rica all we really wanted to do while in Nosara was to relax at either the house or the beach and the house was perfect for this. A car preferably a 4WD is essential as the house is a good 5 min drive from the village where there are a number of very good places to eat. The owner was very pleasant and efficient to deal with. Once I had overcome my nervousness during the night time we had a fantastic stay in this lovely property."

  • A Great Week in Nosara

"We really enjoyed our week at this cute little beach bungalow! The easy walk to the yoga studio is beautiful. The privacy of the back patio is lovely. The cafe de Paris is a short 5 minute walk for a fresh croissant. And the beach is a quick ten minute walk or five minute bike ride. While you're in town, check our playa pelada, the next beach over from playa Guiones. I think the owners are great people who truly want to share their wonderful space. They haven't been there in a while, so the day-to-day business is left up to a third party, who is a bit over her head. That would be the only reason I would dock this cozy spot a star. Well worth it otherwise! Have fun."

  • Tropical paradise, the essence of PURA VIDA

"I echo the sentiments of all the other reviewers as far as how special a place Familia Feliz is for your Costa Rica destination. The room, the outdoor shower and kitchen and the staff are awesome. There is plenty to do here to fill a week without leaving the Nosara area. I wanted to fill you in on a wonderful adventure we had on our last day in Nosara. We had planned to hike in the Wildlife Refuge (Lagarta Lodge) because I and my family love to discover wildlife especially birds, but found out the day before that it was closed for a week and wouldn't reopen until after we had left. So we chanced a visit to Fishing Nosara because they advertised eco-tours on their sign. We signed up mostly because we found out that the guide was a lifelong local and he would take you to a farm for a Costa Rican lunch. Well his name was Javier and he grew up along the Nosara river just outside Nosara town, a property where his mother still lives. His brother Eduardo and his family live on a farm nearby and that was where lunch was served. As we walked along Javier showed us an ancient Indian burial ground, a hidden waterfall, he picked fruit off trees and peeled it for us (mangoes, starfruit--he even cracked a coconut and let us drink the water and eat the soft fleshy "apple" inside). He pointed out birds in foliage we would never have seen, and lizards on a branch overhanging the river that when he shook the branch they fell in the water and then proceeded to walk on water to get to shore. I've seen this feat on nature shows, I never thought I would see it in real life! But the lasting memory was to have Eduardo show us his farm and then take us into his home for the most fabulous lunch imaginable. It was chicken and potatoes, pork, rice, beans, special hot peppers, salad, tortilla shells still hot from the frypan, and cheese-the most glorious cheese that they made just for us that morning--I know I'm missing things because the table was loaded with food. I couldn't begin to describe the wonderful feeling I get when I think about the kindness these people showed us. I don't know if you know the family I speak of, but if you do and you see them when you're at FF, please thank them again for us, and be sure to recommend this tour to your other guests if they are eco-minded (it can be done on horseback as well). This was just one of the wonderful people we met while in the area. If you want to immerse yourself and live like a local, this is the place. PURA VIDA"
