  • Perfect Place and Perfect Hostess

"We recently moved to Costa Rica and Casa Camaleon was our first stop. Our family stayed in a two bedroom unit for a week in early February. We were delighted with the accomodations. For the price, you won't find better. It is very simple, but clean and tastefully decorated. It is a short walk to the best beach we have ever visited in Costa Rica - not packed with tourists - peaceful and beautiful. Our hostess, Sharr, is what really made our experience perfect. She went out of her way to be sure our stay was wonderful and she was happy to help us during our steep learning curve!"

  • Lovely House Great location

"On my 3rd trip to Playa Grande, my friend and I (60 something women) took our 9 twenty-something kids for a weeklong break from the cold Northeast Everybody loved Casa Kalumina. Elisa, the rental agent, is local and was there to help us activate the wireless internet and assist with any need. The house is close to the beach, local market and restaurants as well as the water taxi to Tamarindo. We are booking for next year already"

  • Pros - excellent beach/location, courteous hosts; Cons - property/furniture could use an upgrade

"We (2 adults and a 2 1/2 year old child) stayed at Alan's and Kathy's house for 3 nights in May. The house is right on the beach and Playa Grande is fantastic, very secluded, private and huge beach, 5 stars! We had the top floor for us which has the master bedroom and 1 bathroom. It also has a loft with extra beds, small living room, kitchen and a huge outside veranda. The veranda is awesome and the views gorgeous, lots of wind too. The master bedroom had A/C and was useful because it was very hot during the time we were there (high of 35-37°C / 95-100°F). The pool was clean and had nice depth, however not for very small kids. The kitchen was well equipped though it could've used a microwave instead of a conventional oven. Kitchen didn't have any kind of condiments and it would've been better if it had the basic items stored (at least sugar, salt, pepper, may be coffee etc.). Some of the furniture is old and broken and could use some refurbishment as well. There is free Wi-Fi (spotty inside) and a small TV which gives you DirecTV programming from the US. Alan and Kathy are very courteous and were helpful with all our needs. I think the housekeeping lady comes once a week. If you are annoyed by harmless insects or ants then it’s not the place for you. There are a few here and there, which never really bothered us. The place isn't really child proof (may be not for very young kids) but we were fine with it. Parking is on street, which is right outside of the gate. We found the area to be safe. Tamarindo is half an hour drive (20 kms) or you can go to the south end of beach (3-4 kms) and take the boat. I have lived in the tropics for more than 20 years and this house reminded me of my granduncle's rustic home where I spent a lot of time growing up, very nostalgic. Loved the trees, the shades and the red tile flooring. I really want to leave 5 stars for this property, and once it gets a refurbishment it’s definitely a 5 star!"

  • Paradise Found

"This was truly a week in paradise, I only wish we had booked a longer stay! The house was perfect for our 2 families of 4, everyone had their own space but the house also offers plenty of room for us all to eat together, or lounge on the patio or yard. Beach access is right out the back door, to a long, wide uncrowded beach. Sunsets up on top of the "Rock" were fun for the kids (15-23).Plenty of patio furniture and beach lounges to enjoy the outdoors. We saw one turtle on the beach one night, though it wasn't nesting season! The orange and purple crabs are everywhere - it became a nightly ritual of shooing the crabs out of the courtyard (Not an easy task without hurting them)so they wouldn't scurry into our rooms when the doors were opened! All part of the jungle life, it didn't bother us at all. Water pressure in the house is really low at times, but there is a drought right now so it was no problem for us to deal with. House water is safe to drink, we had no problems. We had Kimberly cook 3 dinners for us - she is not only a great cook (Her Arroz con Pollo is amazing!) but she is very helpful in answering questions about the house and the area in general. Taco stand just down the block is great, Bula Bula has a really nice dinner in a beautiful setting, but the stand out meal was at Café del Pueblo, the small restaurant on the left as you're heading out of Playa Grande. Not to miss! We booked an Adventure Tour through Frijoles Locos (Corynne is so nice and very helpful!) at Rincon de la Vieja. $85/pp if you drive yourself, which is a very easy 1 3/4 drive away. It included awesome ziplining through gorgeous river gorge, horseback riding (I would skip this part - unimpressive) and whitewater river tubing - the highlight of or whole trip! Also amazing hot springs and mud bath, and a great buffet lunch. Awesome day, I would HIGHLY recommend! Overall, the house exceeded our expectations. Just remember that you are in a beach house in the jungle so there are critters and sand everywhere. Relax and enjoy! PURA VIDA"

Playa Grande Travel Tips

Playa Grande Beach Rentals Are Tropical Paradises

Do more than dream about the tropical paradise of Costa Rica. Instead, book your perfect Playa Grande Beach rentals now to experience the Guanacaste Province and Marino Las Baulas National Park. Every day, you can rise and run down to the pristine shoreline around Playa Grande resorts for a dip in the clear Pacific Ocean. At dusk, set up dinner on the deck, so that you can enjoy the sunset. Vacations in Costa Rica are your dream come true.

Playa Grande Resorts and the Life of the Sea Turtle

Playa Grande resorts and Guanacaste Province are most notable for the endangered leatherback sea turtles that visit each year. These turtles struggle up the sand from the ocean to lay their eggs. Vacations in Costa Rica cannot be complete without a look at the natural park where the turtles are protected. If you cannot make the nesting season, try to come 55 to 75 days after the nesting occurs. During this time, you can walk from Playa Grande Beach rentals to witness the baby turtles emerging from the sand to crawl into the sea.

Surf Vacations in Costa Rica

Vacations in Costa Rica to Playa Grande are also notable for their surfing. The main beach at Playa Grande will see waves of varying heights for all skill levels of surfers. This beach is a lot quieter than Playa Tamarindo though equally as good. You will have to be an early riser most mornings to leave Playa Grande resorts for the ocean waves beckoning you.

Enjoy Tours near Playa Grande Beach Rentals

Vacations to Playa Grande Beach rentals do not have to be all about the beach. You can travel inland to experience eco-tours above the ground. Witness the waterfalls that allow the river to snake its way out to the ocean on a trekking tour of the rainforest.
