  • Perfect, fantastic beach house,

"Casa Kalumina is a place of unexpected adventures and luxurious silences, of being greeted by name the second time you stop for breakfast at the surf school down the street, and enjoying vegetarian pizza while listening to a live jazz/reggae trio a five-minute stroll from the front door – under a cloudless canopy of a billion stars. If I sound a little over enthusiastic, trust me, I haven't scratched the surface. We stayed with two other couples and a single friend and each had spacious, private accommodations. It seemed twice as many would be an easy fit with a little communal spirit. A gorgeous, lush garden ensures absolute privacy. The house is thoughtfully laid out with well-appointed kitchen, bathrooms, and spacious common areas including a breezy covered deck with a seductive hammock secreted over the garage. The beds are comfortable and the furnishings tasteful but practical. Friendly and unobtrusive folks tend to the pool and grounds so everything is always groomed and inviting. There was never a bit of trash on the huge beach unless you count the thousands of seashells. There were very few other people on the beach. I never noticed any biting insects. About a half-hour walk up the beach is a turtle museum, a yoga studio, and a nice bar/restaurant with fine, spicy Bloody Marys. Casa Kalumina is a treasure; enjoy it. You will not want to leave. Pura Vida. Pure life!"

  • Our Vacation to Heaven

"Casa Costa Palmera is a little slice of Heaven. Our family had the best time on this amazing beach and in this amazing house. We hired Maria to cook our meals (the best decision ever) and she is an amazing cook. We also used the food stocking service (another perfect decision) and Alyssa brought us our food so we didn't have to waste time at the grocery store. Orlando and Maria are absolutely amazing, kind, and wonderful people. They made us feel welcomed and like royalty. The beach is absolutely splendid and we spent every day swimming or body boarding in the surf. We walked on the beach every morning and were on the beach every evening till sunset. We went snorkeling at Playa Carbon as well which is something that you definitely shouldn't miss when you visit. Alyssa, our concierge, helped set up several tours and trips for us including ziplining and fishing. She was so amazing to work with. We cannot wait to go back! This was the best vacation our family has ever been on! Thank you so much Alyssa, Maria, and Orlando!"

  • Wonderful Villa, thank you!

"We are two families from Canada, a group of 10 and spent 9 nights over New Years Eve at this Villa. We booked this home based on the reviews. It certainly lived up to all the great comments. It is spacious, plenty of room for everyone; however the bedrooms are not very private, the kids with you in loft. I won't repeat all the good stuff everyone else has said, so I'll just add to it. Groceries, wine, and beer all readily available at Super Compro in Huacas; you pass right through from the Liberia airport; an easy 1.15 hour drive. We arrived at night, and just got a bit lost right near the end but managed to find it. We enjoyed walking to restaurants for dinner. There's a new restaurant called Shakas, a wood fired pizza place, Kiki's and taco hut on the beach. All were good. We had Mireya cook 2 authentic CR dinners for us. It was DELICIOUS! We paid for the groceries and then gave her about $40 tip. She cooked with her daughter, and they were both very friendly. Mireya doesn't speak any English, but her daughter and son helped. We booked one trip through her son (as previously said in comments) to an adventure place; zip lines, white water tubing, horseback riding, mud baths, hot baths. It was a full day, very enjoyable. We had some trouble communicating to Carlos and I think we both misunderstood. The trip was $800 US. We thought we could pay him when we got home so we didn't have to carry all that cash. But when we arrived by his bus, he wanted the cash. They didn't take Visa. So we figured it out eventually and the day was good, but be very clear with him. After that, we drove our own car to different activities. We went in a boat up the Estuary and saw monkeys, crocodiles and birds. We went hiking near the volcano and swam in 3 different waterfalls. We took a night tour of a secluded beach and saw the big turtles laying eggs, and a nest of baby turtles emerging and running to the ocean. That was the highlight of our trip! All in all, it was a fantastic trip! Just a few words of caution as stated in previous comments; the only rental car company that had any cars was Alamo. We booked a month ahead from Canada and put a deposit. They didn't have our car or my sister's car. We were stuck! So they eventually found a Toyota Rav4 (very old, standard) and in the end it cost us $1800 CA. My sister ended up at Budget with a SUV and spent about $1500 CA. VERY EXPENSIVE! That was really the only bad thing that happened."

  • Casa Zen is awesome!!!

"My family of 8 stayed at Casa Zen for 7 nights. We have 4 adults, 1 teenager, 1 10yr. old boy and twin 8 yr. old girls. Everyone thought this was our BEST vacation ever, even better than a great trip to Disney World. Casa Zen is also in a great location. It's just a 1 minute walk to an awesome beach with great waves for surfing. This beach was never crowded. If you want a crowd, it only takes about 15 minutes to get to Tamarindo for shopping, eating, etc. Just walk down to the water taxi's and they will ferry you across the river to Tamarindo. The house is very comfortable. All of the bedooms have great air conditioners. We used the outdoor grill several times. We also walked to Hotel Bula Bula many times to eat and drink at the great restaurant and bar. The walk is about 10 minutes and make sure to take flash light. We enjoyed relaxing in the pool too. it was also nice to have daily maid and pool service provioded by staff from Hotel Bula Bula. We will definitely be going back to Costa Rica and would stay at Casa Zen again!!!"
