  • Michigan Couple Finds Paradise!

"This property was perfect...it had all the amenities such as A/C, fans, hot water, pool, outdoor covered patio, fully stocked kitchen, king beds, laundry, etc We always seek privacy, which this has, and to be close to the beach (10 minute leisurely walk). You can't really get much closer than that in this area. You are in walking distance to the mini-market and several restaurants. It is a very private location. It was super easy to arrange rental agreement and check in. The owner and property manager were always timely in their communications. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to return! Both the house and the property are beautiful! Thank you! Nicole & Joe"

  • Best vacation home ever

"9 of us went to Playa Grande for 9 days. 5 of them being teenagers. Everyone loved everything about this house. We can not wait to go back. We try to go on a different vacation every year, but this one will certainly be a repeat. The owner is east to work with and the caretakers are great. The waves were only a 3 minute walk for all of our surfers and boogey boarders. Next door is a great restaurant Seven and a small convenience store that has everything you could possibly need."

  • Wonderful Villa, thank you!

"We are two families from Canada, a group of 10 and spent 9 nights over New Years Eve at this Villa. We booked this home based on the reviews. It certainly lived up to all the great comments. It is spacious, plenty of room for everyone; however the bedrooms are not very private, the kids with you in loft. I won't repeat all the good stuff everyone else has said, so I'll just add to it. Groceries, wine, and beer all readily available at Super Compro in Huacas; you pass right through from the Liberia airport; an easy 1.15 hour drive. We arrived at night, and just got a bit lost right near the end but managed to find it. We enjoyed walking to restaurants for dinner. There's a new restaurant called Shakas, a wood fired pizza place, Kiki's and taco hut on the beach. All were good. We had Mireya cook 2 authentic CR dinners for us. It was DELICIOUS! We paid for the groceries and then gave her about $40 tip. She cooked with her daughter, and they were both very friendly. Mireya doesn't speak any English, but her daughter and son helped. We booked one trip through her son (as previously said in comments) to an adventure place; zip lines, white water tubing, horseback riding, mud baths, hot baths. It was a full day, very enjoyable. We had some trouble communicating to Carlos and I think we both misunderstood. The trip was $800 US. We thought we could pay him when we got home so we didn't have to carry all that cash. But when we arrived by his bus, he wanted the cash. They didn't take Visa. So we figured it out eventually and the day was good, but be very clear with him. After that, we drove our own car to different activities. We went in a boat up the Estuary and saw monkeys, crocodiles and birds. We went hiking near the volcano and swam in 3 different waterfalls. We took a night tour of a secluded beach and saw the big turtles laying eggs, and a nest of baby turtles emerging and running to the ocean. That was the highlight of our trip! All in all, it was a fantastic trip! Just a few words of caution as stated in previous comments; the only rental car company that had any cars was Alamo. We booked a month ahead from Canada and put a deposit. They didn't have our car or my sister's car. We were stuck! So they eventually found a Toyota Rav4 (very old, standard) and in the end it cost us $1800 CA. My sister ended up at Budget with a SUV and spent about $1500 CA. VERY EXPENSIVE! That was really the only bad thing that happened."

  • Surfer's Paradise

"I just got home from my 10 day stay at Casa Marina and had a wonderful time. I went with my wife, our 1 year old daughter, and my sister and her boyfriend. Marina arranged our airport transportation since we didn't want to rent a car. The driver had an nice van with A/C and a cooler full of cold drinks for the hour ride to Playa Grande. He even let us stop at the store on the way to stock up on groceries. Marina greeted us at the property and gave us the quick tour. The two rooms are very nice, clean, and spacious. The pool and the yard are beautiful. Within about 2 hours we were completely settled. Half our group was relaxing by the pool and the other half were sitting on cheaply rented longboards ($100ea for the 10 day stay from a local surf camp) catching perfect warm water waves and watching the sun set over the Pacific. Over the next 10 days we surfed twice a day, every day. The beach is literally a 100 or maybe 150 yard walk at the most. Their pool is warm because it has a dark bottom and absorbs heat from the sun. I've been in other pools in Costa Rica and Nicaragua with white bottoms that are too cold to hang out in. The restaurants close by in Palm Beach Estates (all less than a 5 minute walk) were all very good. The convenience/grocery store (also less than 5 minutes) has EVERYTHING at totally reasonable prices. We took a $20 round trip cab ride into Playa Grande for dinner 2 other nights. Sunday Night Sushi at one of them was excellent. All in all, we had a wonderful time at Casa Marina. I don't think there's a better "bang for the buck" place to stay in Playa Grande. If you're looking for a good place to stay on a surf trip, you've found it. We didn't do any of the other tours (estuary tour, ziplines, white water rafting, volcano tours, etc) but I've heard they're all fun as well. We basically woke up at sunrise, surfed for 2-3 hours, relaxed by the pool the rest of the day and surfed again 2-3 hours until the sun set and started getting dark. We'll definitely be going back!"
