"This was truly a week in paradise, I only wish we had booked a longer stay! The house was perfect for our 2 families of 4, everyone had their own space but the house also offers plenty of room for us all to eat together, or lounge on the patio or yard. Beach access is right out the back door, to a long, wide uncrowded beach. Sunsets up on top of the "Rock" were fun for the kids (15-23).Plenty of patio furniture and beach lounges to enjoy the outdoors. We saw one turtle on the beach one night, though it wasn't nesting season! The orange and purple crabs are everywhere - it became a nightly ritual of shooing the crabs out of the courtyard (Not an easy task without hurting them)so they wouldn't scurry into our rooms when the doors were opened! All part of the jungle life, it didn't bother us at all. Water pressure in the house is really low at times, but there is a drought right now so it was no problem for us to deal with. House water is safe to drink, we had no problems. We had Kimberly cook 3 dinners for us - she is not only a great cook (Her Arroz con Pollo is amazing!) but she is very helpful in answering questions about the house and the area in general. Taco stand just down the block is great, Bula Bula has a really nice dinner in a beautiful setting, but the stand out meal was at Café del Pueblo, the small restaurant on the left as you're heading out of Playa Grande. Not to miss! We booked an Adventure Tour through Frijoles Locos (Corynne is so nice and very helpful!) at Rincon de la Vieja. $85/pp if you drive yourself, which is a very easy 1 3/4 drive away. It included awesome ziplining through gorgeous river gorge, horseback riding (I would skip this part - unimpressive) and whitewater river tubing - the highlight of or whole trip! Also amazing hot springs and mud bath, and a great buffet lunch. Awesome day, I would HIGHLY recommend! Overall, the house exceeded our expectations. Just remember that you are in a beach house in the jungle so there are critters and sand everywhere. Relax and enjoy! PURA VIDA"

"My wife and spent 2 outstanding weeks here. The condo was just like home, had everything we needed and the ice maker was used a lot. Lots of room and very peaceful. Will definitely stay here again, looking now at next year. Had only one issue with the internet and after contacting Rita, they were out and had it fixed within 2 hours, very impressed with the service. We were only woken up two morning by the howler monkeys, they sound like dogs howling, its loud. The walk to the beach is really 2 1/2 minutes about 250 meters, closer than some of the resorts we have been at. We rented a car and visited 7 different beaches in the area, so this condo is very well situated for traveling around. There is some excellent restaurants in the area, El Hurto has outstanding pizza and the Café del Pueblo has a Mahi Mahi in shrimp sauce that is to die for. • Hard to Top!

"I've stayed here a handful of times now and the only reason I am loathe to write this review is that I don't want others to catch on and start competing for booking the best weeks. This place is everything you need in a surf/beach vacation spot and nothing more. Simply walk out the front door in the morning, surf, walk back in, jump in pool, grab beer, sit on upstairs porch overlooking surf, and repeat. This house is a labor of love for Alan and Kathy and they do a great job of making their guests feel comfortable and welcome. If you're looking to hit the "easy" button on a surf/beach vacation and don't want to hassle much, then do yourself a favor and spend a week at Villa of the Rock."

  • Amazing place to stay-with the best pool!

"Our family of 4 stayed at this beautiful property for 10 days. The pool was absolutely fantastic and exceeded our expectations in size and cleanliness. Mike, the thoughtful owner, came by every morning before 6 to clean the pool. The gardens surrounding the home were beautiful and made it very private! The beach was one of the best we have ever been to. Perfect for both children and avid surfers. It was also nice to be away from the more crowded Tamarindo beach. There were amazing dining options close and we also prepared our own meals. We would definitely stay here again!!!!"
