  • Costa rica spring break

"My family (two teenagers, my wife and I) loved this house. Casa Baula is very well appointed, clean, creatively decorated, and expansive. Lots of space boh indoors and out, huge selection of books, games, dvd's for after dark...and well stocked with outdoor equipment for daylight...beach chairs, shade tent, boogie boards, a surf board, etc. Manfred's bread was superb. And having maids come to clean twice while we were there for a week was really nice! As to playa grande...oh my...what more cna be said. This is the perfect vacation spot for the beach and surf. The break is consistently awesome, yet not too intimidating for those who just want to splash around a bit...and plenty big during both low and high tide for awesome body surfing and great regular surfing too. And the area is low key, quiet, relaxing with enough resaurants and amenities to meet all your needs. And if a party is called for, tamarindo is an easy 25 minute drive away...or short taxi hop across the channel. But the great part is leaving it behind for the serenity of playa grande. Finally, annette was very easy to work with, responsive to questions, etc. couldn't have had a better experience. :)"

  • Paradise Found

"This was truly a week in paradise, I only wish we had booked a longer stay! The house was perfect for our 2 families of 4, everyone had their own space but the house also offers plenty of room for us all to eat together, or lounge on the patio or yard. Beach access is right out the back door, to a long, wide uncrowded beach. Sunsets up on top of the "Rock" were fun for the kids (15-23).Plenty of patio furniture and beach lounges to enjoy the outdoors. We saw one turtle on the beach one night, though it wasn't nesting season! The orange and purple crabs are everywhere - it became a nightly ritual of shooing the crabs out of the courtyard (Not an easy task without hurting them)so they wouldn't scurry into our rooms when the doors were opened! All part of the jungle life, it didn't bother us at all. Water pressure in the house is really low at times, but there is a drought right now so it was no problem for us to deal with. House water is safe to drink, we had no problems. We had Kimberly cook 3 dinners for us - she is not only a great cook (Her Arroz con Pollo is amazing!) but she is very helpful in answering questions about the house and the area in general. Taco stand just down the block is great, Bula Bula has a really nice dinner in a beautiful setting, but the stand out meal was at Café del Pueblo, the small restaurant on the left as you're heading out of Playa Grande. Not to miss! We booked an Adventure Tour through Frijoles Locos (Corynne is so nice and very helpful!) at Rincon de la Vieja. $85/pp if you drive yourself, which is a very easy 1 3/4 drive away. It included awesome ziplining through gorgeous river gorge, horseback riding (I would skip this part - unimpressive) and whitewater river tubing - the highlight of or whole trip! Also amazing hot springs and mud bath, and a great buffet lunch. Awesome day, I would HIGHLY recommend! Overall, the house exceeded our expectations. Just remember that you are in a beach house in the jungle so there are critters and sand everywhere. Relax and enjoy! PURA VIDA"

  • COULDSTAY4EVER

"My husband and our 2 teenage daughters spent a week at the beach bungalow. We absolutely loved it. We found the bungalow to be very comfortable and truly enjoyed the simplicity of the location. SURF, SURF, SURF! The owner of the property came by to educate us on the home and surroundings which was very helpful. We requested a grill and she dropped one by later. She even called a couple days into our stay to check up on us. We have rented several homes throughout the years and this has never happened. My only recommendation would be to add a place to have dinner as a family. We sat around the coffee table and it worked out. Thank you for your hospitality and sharing your beautiful casa with us. We were soooooooo sad to have to leave."

  • Wonderful Villa, thank you!

"We are two families from Canada, a group of 10 and spent 9 nights over New Years Eve at this Villa. We booked this home based on the reviews. It certainly lived up to all the great comments. It is spacious, plenty of room for everyone; however the bedrooms are not very private, the kids with you in loft. I won't repeat all the good stuff everyone else has said, so I'll just add to it. Groceries, wine, and beer all readily available at Super Compro in Huacas; you pass right through from the Liberia airport; an easy 1.15 hour drive. We arrived at night, and just got a bit lost right near the end but managed to find it. We enjoyed walking to restaurants for dinner. There's a new restaurant called Shakas, a wood fired pizza place, Kiki's and taco hut on the beach. All were good. We had Mireya cook 2 authentic CR dinners for us. It was DELICIOUS! We paid for the groceries and then gave her about $40 tip. She cooked with her daughter, and they were both very friendly. Mireya doesn't speak any English, but her daughter and son helped. We booked one trip through her son (as previously said in comments) to an adventure place; zip lines, white water tubing, horseback riding, mud baths, hot baths. It was a full day, very enjoyable. We had some trouble communicating to Carlos and I think we both misunderstood. The trip was $800 US. We thought we could pay him when we got home so we didn't have to carry all that cash. But when we arrived by his bus, he wanted the cash. They didn't take Visa. So we figured it out eventually and the day was good, but be very clear with him. After that, we drove our own car to different activities. We went in a boat up the Estuary and saw monkeys, crocodiles and birds. We went hiking near the volcano and swam in 3 different waterfalls. We took a night tour of a secluded beach and saw the big turtles laying eggs, and a nest of baby turtles emerging and running to the ocean. That was the highlight of our trip! All in all, it was a fantastic trip! Just a few words of caution as stated in previous comments; the only rental car company that had any cars was Alamo. We booked a month ahead from Canada and put a deposit. They didn't have our car or my sister's car. We were stuck! So they eventually found a Toyota Rav4 (very old, standard) and in the end it cost us $1800 CA. My sister ended up at Budget with a SUV and spent about $1500 CA. VERY EXPENSIVE! That was really the only bad thing that happened."
