  • Pros - excellent beach/location, courteous hosts; Cons - property/furniture could use an upgrade

"We (2 adults and a 2 1/2 year old child) stayed at Alan's and Kathy's house for 3 nights in May. The house is right on the beach and Playa Grande is fantastic, very secluded, private and huge beach, 5 stars! We had the top floor for us which has the master bedroom and 1 bathroom. It also has a loft with extra beds, small living room, kitchen and a huge outside veranda. The veranda is awesome and the views gorgeous, lots of wind too. The master bedroom had A/C and was useful because it was very hot during the time we were there (high of 35-37°C / 95-100°F). The pool was clean and had nice depth, however not for very small kids. The kitchen was well equipped though it could've used a microwave instead of a conventional oven. Kitchen didn't have any kind of condiments and it would've been better if it had the basic items stored (at least sugar, salt, pepper, may be coffee etc.). Some of the furniture is old and broken and could use some refurbishment as well. There is free Wi-Fi (spotty inside) and a small TV which gives you DirecTV programming from the US. Alan and Kathy are very courteous and were helpful with all our needs. I think the housekeeping lady comes once a week. If you are annoyed by harmless insects or ants then it’s not the place for you. There are a few here and there, which never really bothered us. The place isn't really child proof (may be not for very young kids) but we were fine with it. Parking is on street, which is right outside of the gate. We found the area to be safe. Tamarindo is half an hour drive (20 kms) or you can go to the south end of beach (3-4 kms) and take the boat. I have lived in the tropics for more than 20 years and this house reminded me of my granduncle's rustic home where I spent a lot of time growing up, very nostalgic. Loved the trees, the shades and the red tile flooring. I really want to leave 5 stars for this property, and once it gets a refurbishment it’s definitely a 5 star!"

  • Playa Grande - Guanacaste, Costa Rica

"This is a great hideaway in Playa Grande. It is a relaxing 2 bedroom home with everything you need. It's a short walk to the beach and has a beautiful inviting swimming pool surrounded by green, lush vegetation. I highly recommend it."

  • Pictures and words cannot describe how wonderful this place is.

"After A LOT of searching, I decided this was the best place for my family to spend four days of our week in Costa Rica. I wanted a house that would offer beach access as well as space for my two kids. David and Kelly's house far exceeded our expectations. It's beautiful. It's a wonderful place to just relax and enjoy the sounds of the ocean, amazing birds and summery cicadas. We could walk to a surf shop that offered excellent lessons as well as good rates on body boards and surf boards (body boards - $5 per day, surf boards - $15 per day). I didn't cook, but used the kitchen for simple breakfasts, snacks and sandwiches, as well as morning coffee. There were also several restaurants and a market close by. If you are willing to walk, more restaurants are available at the north end of the beach (approx 1.5 miles), or by taking a water taxi to Tamarindo (operates until 4 pm daily, for either $3 per person, or $1 per person, depending on pickup point). The house is clean, beautifully decorated and in an incredible spot if you like a quiet, slow pace, and proximity to natural beauty. If you prefer an all inclusive resort or a lot of action, this is not for you. The encounters with natural beauty changed daily, but in four days, we saw howler monkeys, iguanas, egrets, crabs, pelicans, lizards, and even a crocodile. I taught my kids card games, we ate ice cream, tried new fruits, played in the ocean, developed keen eyes for natural beauty, and learned how to slow down. It was wonderful."

Playa Grande Travel Tips

Playa Grande Beach Rentals Are Tropical Paradises

Do more than dream about the tropical paradise of Costa Rica. Instead, book your perfect Playa Grande Beach rentals now to experience the Guanacaste Province and Marino Las Baulas National Park. Every day, you can rise and run down to the pristine shoreline around Playa Grande resorts for a dip in the clear Pacific Ocean. At dusk, set up dinner on the deck, so that you can enjoy the sunset. Vacations in Costa Rica are your dream come true.

Playa Grande Resorts and the Life of the Sea Turtle

Playa Grande resorts and Guanacaste Province are most notable for the endangered leatherback sea turtles that visit each year. These turtles struggle up the sand from the ocean to lay their eggs. Vacations in Costa Rica cannot be complete without a look at the natural park where the turtles are protected. If you cannot make the nesting season, try to come 55 to 75 days after the nesting occurs. During this time, you can walk from Playa Grande Beach rentals to witness the baby turtles emerging from the sand to crawl into the sea.

Surf Vacations in Costa Rica

Vacations in Costa Rica to Playa Grande are also notable for their surfing. The main beach at Playa Grande will see waves of varying heights for all skill levels of surfers. This beach is a lot quieter than Playa Tamarindo though equally as good. You will have to be an early riser most mornings to leave Playa Grande resorts for the ocean waves beckoning you.

Enjoy Tours near Playa Grande Beach Rentals

Vacations to Playa Grande Beach rentals do not have to be all about the beach. You can travel inland to experience eco-tours above the ground. Witness the waterfalls that allow the river to snake its way out to the ocean on a trekking tour of the rainforest.
