Overview of Heredia Vacation Rentals
Explore Eco-Friendly Costa Rica from Your Heredia Vacation Rentals
Heredia makes a great center for a vacation. Located in the central highlands of Costa Rica, six miles north of the capital, San Jose, it is close to all the attractions of the city yet still a small friendly community of just 33,000 residents. Nicknamed the “City of Flowers,” after the ruling Flora family, it is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, lush rainforest, coffee plantations, rivers and waterfalls. The area is considered one of the safest for visitors and the hub of Costa Rica’s technological industries and university. The area supports many outdoor cafés, small restaurants, beautiful parks and typical Spanish white-washed churches.
Costa Rica Weather at Heredia Vacation Rentals
As the Heredia vacation homes are situated in the central highlands, the weather is cooler than on the coast. Temperatures remain constant in the upper 70s F during the day but there is a wet season and a dry season. From December to April, the dry season, it will be consistently sunny and warm with cloudless skies, making this the best time to enjoy a Heredia vacation. The rainy season will have heavy showers each day, generally in the afternoon, but they quickly pass. Overnight lows may be 58 to 60 F.
Great Things to Do from Heredia Vacation Homes
Close to the Heredia villas, there are many open-air markets, particularly on the weekends. Known locally as “ferias,” they sell everything from local seasonal fruit to souvenirs, clothing and crafts. A great souvenir gift to take home is a bag of coffee beans which can be picked up very reasonably at the end of a tour of a local coffee plantation. See the coffee trees, learn about coffee roasting and taste the quality product on these fascinating trips.
No visit to Costa Rica would be complete without visiting at least one of the national parks. The nearest one to your Heredia vacation rentals is the Braulio Carillo National Park which offers hikes through dense rainforest to the crater of the Barva Volcano, now a natural lake. Along the way, visitors will see incredible sightings of wildlife, ferns, flowers and butterflies, along with some of the 530 species of birds which make their home here. Rarest and most beautiful of all is the legendary Quetzal.
Getting to Heredia Villas and Getting Around Costa Rica
Getting to your chosen Heredia vacation rentals is easy. The main airport serving the whole of Costa Rica is the Santamaria International Airport in the capital, San José. It is just six miles from Heredia villas. The easiest way to get around the area is by rental car which can be easily arranged at the airport. The bus service around the country is also very cheap, crowded and easy to use between main cities. Roads are generally pot-holed and dusty, and signposts are a rare luxury!
Where to Visit from Your Heredia Vacation Rentals
A day trip into San José itself is a must, to see the bustling city and grand theaters as well as the modern shopping malls, boutiques and independent stores. Visit El Fortin, the Old Fort, erected in 1876 which has some strange architectural features. The Marine Zoo shows some of the 2,000 marine species which are part of Costa Rica’s rich biodiversity. The home of the former president, Casa de la Cultura, and the Museum of Popular Culture in San José both provide excellent information on local life including furnishings, tortilla making and old-fashioned coffee-brewing.
