  • Paradise once again

"We were privileged to be able to return to Casa de Early Birds for another visit. Once again, we were not disappointed. The owners are wonderful to deal with and the caretakers who live downstairs are so helpful and kind. We enjoyed sitting on the porch listening to the ocean, the howler monkeys and looking over the lush vegetation. We walked along the beach nearly every day and enjoyed the local vibe. I can think of no better place to relax and unwind. Loved our experience in every way!"

  • Location x 3

"Lovely character home, great location, resident sloth. The porches were comfortable and breezy, no ac, no problem as the nights were quite comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

  • Simply Amazing Villa in Puerto Viejo

"We chose Residencia Kenia to celebrate our honeymoon and were delighted with our stay. It is an exceptional property in the area and expertly decorated and maintained. We were treated to an open air villa, private pool, jacuzzi, game room, etc. The caretakers keep the property immaculately maintained each day. They also offer a breakfast service which is very nice. The property is gated and very secure. We had access to a private stretch of beach as well. Puerto Viejo is a very short drive or bike away. And yes, there are bicycles to use free of charge at the property as well as boogie boards and other fun stuff. The property manager and caretakers were very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable of the area. I highly recommend Residencia Kenia if you are looking for an exceptional stay in Puerto Viejo."

  • Amazing experience

"This location is prime! I'm not quite sure a 4x4 is required to drive to the home, the roads leading up to the driveway are paved and the driveway is a rocky and bumpy dirt road, that said, I THINK a regular car could drive it. There is a gate for added sense of security, all doors and windows lock. Bugs can climb under the doors but we stayed on the second floor. There are 3 bedrooms and 4 beds of different sizes and 2 longer sofas. The two hammocks upstairs were the best! We spent a lot of time on the patio. Every morning, without fail, we heard howler monkeys at 4-6am, at first they sounded like dogs growling or even boars but they're definitely monkeys! The house is surrounded by lush rain forest foliage and the short trail in the backyard leads right to the beach (where there's great snorkeling off shore!). The house is right across the street from Abel Bustamante, we went on 3 tours with him - a long jungle hike, snorkeling and a night hike to sea a huge leatherback sea turtle laying eggs. He's incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! The easy drive to Puerto Viejo was about 20 minutes. You can't really get lost because there's one main paved road. There was a supermercado and a few restaurants in walking distance, although the best supermercados with lots of variety were in Puerto Viejo. I didn't have cell reception but my friends and I took advantage of taking photos while we were out and uploading them online using the house wifi, we also streamed music. In hind sight, we should have brought a speaker for sufficient sound. Mosquitoes were brutal, they love me and ate me alive despite using lots of bug spray - the beds came with optional mosquito nets even though the house was enclosed. Also, if you wash your clothes, they won't dry due to humidity! This house is one of the nicer ones in the area, better than a hostel and many open cabins. It was nice to have our own home and this site was very simple to use. Owner and housekeepers were very friendly. I definitely recommend this rental! * Tip - if the knives are dull, use the underside of a ceramic mug to scrape the sides of the knife point a few times, wash knife and use! Be careful though. My mom told me this trick and it worked well on the knives in the house. Also, under the kitchen sink drain, there's a sediment catcher, be sure to empty it out in to the organics bucket when the sink starts to clog."
