  • Wonderful house near Cahuita, peaceful and kept-up well

"We rented this house for 3 adults and 4 children under 10 years. The house was beautiful, well cared for, and the gardens were very nice. The setting was very peaceful and relaxing. There were screens and the insects did not get in. The pool was very clean and kept up well. The beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well-stocked with a huge refrigerator and freezer. There was plenty of room for the children to run around and play. Lorenzo and Ramon were very friendly and helpful, and the owners of the property were very responsive and helpful via email to set up the reservation. We had a car so it was easy to get to the location, and it was very fast to get to Cahuita and Puerto Viejo. Our only complaints were minor: that we had one adult who slept on the top bunk downstairs. She said the bars of the bunk could be felt under the mattress and that the floorboards above squeaked loudly every time someone walked around. The noise didn't wake the kids up at all! She switched beds to get a better night's sleep. The other thing was that the highway was loud at times. We would absolutely rent this house again!"

  • Beautiful house, spectacular wildlife!

"This place is amazing! The house is beautiful and the wildlife spectacular!. They dont show that many pictures of the house but you won't be disappointed. The upper level is wide open except for the bedroom which can be completely closed and locked from the inside. The upstairs bedroom also has a private bathroom. During the day it can be opened up to enjoy the weather. There is also a large seating area and a fully screened cabana on the opposite end of the large deck. Downstairs there is another bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining room. The kitchen and dining room close and open similarly to the bedroom so you can feel completely secure at night and feel like you're in the middle of the jungle during the day. Everyday I sat at the table and marveled while eating breakfast overlooking a beautiful pool and magnificent scenery. You're not really going to see the ocean much from here but you get so much more. Tons of White faced and Howler monkeys as well as Toucans and other birds living with you right there. We also saw a monster iguana in the Tree of Life (that's what we came to call it and you will know exactly which one I'm talking about if you stay here). The Howlers got a little wild one morning and had a little poop fight and our SUV got caught in the crossfire but it just makes the experience that much more memorable. Speaking of SUV, you can get almost the entire way to the property without 4 wheel drive but there is a quite the hill at the very end that you may or may not be able to make up in a regular car. Be warned. As far as bugs, well, yes there are bugs. You just have to be smart about it. When it gets to be dusk if you leave everything open and have lights on the bugs are going to come in. If you leave the lights off or close it up you can pretty much control it. You can walk to the store or several restuarants and bars no problem (just remember the hill on the way back). Between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo there are all kinds of restaurants, bars and shops so you really dont have to be in any one area in particular. That whole stretch of coast is really the draw. You won't regret it."

  • Fantastic hosts and house!

"This is such an amazing place to stay! I can't say enough great things about the property or Erin and Darren the hosts! The pictures do not do the house justice which I know doesn't seem possible! We had the trip of a lifetime and this was the perfect location for our home base. We biked to Punta Uva, Puerto Viejo and many of the great places right in playa Chiquita! Thank you Erin and Darren for the unbeatable hospitality!"

  • Fabulous Experience!

"We were 3 adults, a 7 year old and a 9 month old. We stayed at Casa del Caribe for 4 nights in June. What an amazing experience! The house is rustic and charming. The lot is surrounded by flowers, fruit, birds, bugs, howler monkeys and vegetation. The neighbors are very close and nice, but they didn't feel close because of the vegetation. The hot water was never used for showers, but it was nice to have to clean the kitchen, etc. The kitchen is well stocked, but we didn't cook. Just used the fridge and coffee pot. I actually slept on the air mattress outside on the upper deck, it was amazing (I had my own mosquito net, recommended if you do this). We felt very safe, the gate to the house locks, the kitchen locks and there is a lockable gate up to the bedrooms. Plenty of lighting throughout the house, including outside. We used the washing machine and spin dryer. Nothing ever really dries in June it's so humid but it was necessary to clean out your swim suits, PJ's and other items. It was a nice perk to have. The water was turned off one night when we got back from our outings and we easily found the breaker box and it was all good. The neighbors were nice. Oscar responded to our questions, however he isn't in town a lot. The cell phone was a nice touch. Our rental car gave us one too so we essentially could have used both to communicate with each other, but we didn't. We couldn't get the Wifi to work, we found the modem and the lights were on. That is all I did to try to get it working, I didn't want internet anyway! The bikes were AWESOME and the stereo was a really nice touch! We were hot, sticky, happy, relaxed and utterly in paradise! Johanna's Soda was very close, we ate there twice. The beach was beautiful and close. Puerto Viejo (2 miles away) proved to be an awesome little town also with a nice beach and plenty of restaurants, shops, etc. We walked to Punta Uva and enjoyed that beach as well. The little store down the road was actually a good size. There is also a place to dump your garbage in between the house and the store. All so convenient. I definitely recommend this experience to anyone!"
