"We stayed with our grown-up family in Feb/Mar 2015 and found the house quiet and relaxing. It is big and spacious, and pleasantly cool when the shutters are open, except for the upstairs bedroom which gets hot during the day - but this room has air con if you need it. We found that overnight that bedroom cools and we never used the air con., just the fans was enough. Our favourite space was the verandah, which has plenty of room and is shaded - a lovely place to enjoy looking at the trees and birds whatever the weather. Kitchen and bathroom facilities are all fine and the management made sure we had wifi. The location is good if you prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Viejo, which can generally be reached by walking along the beautiful Playa Negra beach (depending on the tide!) The local facilities are great. the Point is ten minutes walk away, on the beach, and does good food and great beers. The Banana Azul hotel is just a few minutes away, also on the beach, and is very happy to welcome casual visitors to use its bar, its super restaurant and other facilities (eg bikes and beach loungers) - you can have the best of both worlds, home and hotel! We all had a great time and will definitely go back."

Great house, friendly hosts, and awesome location!
"My husband and I stayed in the Bird House with some friends of ours for a month! I was doing a yoga teacher training nearby in Playa Negra. For us the location was absolutely perfect, a bike ride to my school in Playa Negra, and a bike ride into town, yet secluded in the jungle on a beautiful property. (We rented bikes in town at Cafe Rico!) It was very private and relaxing and the house was spacious enough for our two families. Carter and Pamela were so friendly and helpful giving us tips on what to do and see, bringing us fresh bananas, and making us feel right at home. While I was at school, my husband and our son, who is three and a half were able to relax on the property, get creative cooking in the wonderful outdoor kitchen, and walk down the street to the beach. On property we saw multiple sloths, poison dart frogs, howler monkeys, fireflies, birds, and even a snake (a baby boa-- not poisonous!) I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to get away from it all and relax in the jungle. Note: there is wifi and a fan, but no ac (which is not very common in this area anyway), and it is rustic yet charming. I would definitely stay here again. The sound of the rain on the tin roof makes for a magical sleep. Thanks Carter y Pamela!"

"Casa Zorro was a wonderful retreat, close to town (right on the edge of the southern part) where my daughter and I stayed for a week while exploring the area. It was roomy, had everything we needed, and was walking distance to everything in town. It had drinking water, which was a bonus so we did not have to buy while we were there. Any questions I had were answered right away. I appreciated the extra security (the outside locked gate, as well as the extra lock on the front door), plus the safe in the master bedroom where we were able to lock our passports and any electronics that we brought with us. I would recommend it to anyone!"

"I rented The Bounty with a group of my friends in June 2015. Not only was the house comfortable & clean, it was in the perfect location! The living room was cozy with a couch, two chairs, and a 4 top kitchen table. The kitchen had a gas stove with oven, plenty of counter space, and all the plates/cups/utensils you need. Unfortunaly the fridge was the kind that has an icebox on the top, so when you fill it the temp drops, & it won't freeze well. That's honestly my only complaint though! The rooms had nice sheets & good mattresses. The bathroom was clean & spacious. And most importantly, it has screens on the windows & plenty of fans! (We've sadly had an experience at a different rental house which didn't not have screens.... Bad news)
One of the best features is that it's a 45 second walk to the Caribbean ocean! Which is soooo warm year around!!! The Banana Azul is a resort down the same road The Bounty is on, about a 4minute walk away. This resort is really nice, pool, bar, restaurant, whole 9yards. They have bike rentals for $6 a day & they staff was so polite, inviting us to use all there amenities! With our bikes, we could now ride to the center of Puerto Veijo in 5min! (And the town of Puerto is awesome!) The Bounty has a fence around the property so our cars and our bikes were safe at night. They have clean towels to use, mats to lay out at the beach, noodles & bougie boards, and even 2 hoses to rinse the saltwater off after you swim.
The property manager Susan was great as well, recommending and even arranging activities for us in the area. Not only would I recommend this house to just about anyone visiting Costa Rica, I'll probably be back myself! :)"
