  • Wonderful vacation home!

"We spent a wonderful month at Villa Mountain Serenity and really could have spent an additional month if time had permitted. The property is very comfortable, in a great location, and was really perfect for us. Mornings always started early with coffee at poolside, binoculars in hand for bird watching, and listening to the lovely toucans who were ever-present in the mornings and early evenings. After many hot and humid day trips, we returned to the house to enjoy the mountain breezes, swim, prepare dinner on the grill, and pore over the home's numerous Costa Rican natural history books in search of something we'd seen that day. It really was the perfect retreat. Do not miss the Uvita Farmer's Market on Saturday. Although quite small, they offer wonderful tamales, breads, fruits and veggies either not available or far fresher than those found in the supermarkets, eggs, homemade plantain chips, spices, artisan cheeses, and hand crafts. Be sure to go early as they run out of the popular items. The only disappointing purchase was a bag of shrimp that turned out to be bland and mushy. The grocery stores in the area (Dominical and Uvita) are fine for meat, dairy, rustic baguettes, and most other items, albeit expensive, but the fresh produce is really lacking. San Isidro is a larger town and offers a better selection. They also have a farmer's market on Thursday(?) but we couldn't find it. The best fruit stands are found along the road from Dominical to San Isidro. Be warned, this road is quite dangerous with trucks drifting into the oncoming lane on turns. We saw several really horrible accidents and always proceeded very slowly around blind corners. Other food finds, Cafe Delicias (sp?) in Dominical sells croissants that are quite good, but cannot comment on the restaurant food as we didn't try it. Although we mainly cooked at home, our favorite restaurants were Villa Leonor in Ojochal (hearty food, beautiful beach and setting), Porque No?, Roadshack Deli, and Sabor Espanol. We found La Fogata Pizzeria disappointing when we ordered dishes other than pizza. I'd like to spend my last allowed characters in this review to thank Massi, Vilma, and all of the wonderful staff from Costa Ballena Management who made our stay at VMS so comfortable. Massi responded very quickly and professionally to all issues that arose and we only regret not getting the chance to meet him. We would return to VMS in a heartbeat, and hopefully will!"

  • PURA VIDA......

"To put this house & this vacation into words is quite difficult,,,,,there are no words to describe the beauty, serenity, calmness, magnificence, location, amenities, cleanliness....etc, etc.....I absolutely love this place.....Last year our entire family(6 of us) rented the middle house, and loved it, so this year we decided to go back. Unfortunately it was already rented...bummer, but Federico assured me that this house is just as nice. He was so, so correcto!!!! This year we had Jennifer arrange a chef to come in, cook us a typical Tico meal. It was wonderful & so fun having someone cook in our house. Jennifer also did the grocery shopping for that dinner which was nice. Jennifer also arranged for massages in our house & that was splendid. These 2 women who did the massages were fantastic.....everyone should do this for sure!!!! We visited waterfalls nearby, walked along the beach many, many times daily, swam & relaxed in the pool, and just enjoyed the beautiful sounds of this place. I also love Jennifer's dog, and I miss her so...We found some great new resturants like ?Porque No? and Roca Verde was super good, and the restaurant at Cuna del Angel was superb. Horseback riding on the beach was breath-taking, and the snorkeling at Cano island is also a must...I could go on & on, but I think you now understand what a vacation at this place would be like.....Oh, I forgot the surfing....that was a blast!!!!! See y'all soon...Pura Vida....."

  • Amazing place!

"We stayed at this house for 9 days and words don't do it justice! We absolutely loved staying here! It was everything we expected and much more. We had Howler and white faced monkeys hanging in the tree above the beautiful infinity pool as well as toucans almost every day we were there. We almost didn't want to leave the house in case we missed something! The house was beautiful, clean and new. It is situated in a great location overlooking the ocean and right in the jungle with no other houses in sight. It was only a short road off the highway and only 7-10 minutes from either Dominical or Uvita for groceries. The owners, Patti and Jim, were very helpful and friendly. Silvia, who help set up tours and answered general questions was great too. I would recommend though doing a little research on tours to make sure you are getting what you are expecting for a good price. Our deep sea fishing trip she booked was on the pricy side and the boat didn't go out far enough for the sport fish like Sailfish. We found there was lots to do in this area including a day trip to Corcovado but not as touristy as Quepos one hour to the north. The beach just south of Uvita called Colonial beach was awesome for beginner surfers and in two days we might have seen 10 people there! Ventanas beach was fun too with caves to walk through. I've already recommended this property to many friends and relatives. I have not been able to stop talking about it since I came home!"
