  • Wonderful vacation home!

"We spent a wonderful month at Villa Mountain Serenity and really could have spent an additional month if time had permitted. The property is very comfortable, in a great location, and was really perfect for us. Mornings always started early with coffee at poolside, binoculars in hand for bird watching, and listening to the lovely toucans who were ever-present in the mornings and early evenings. After many hot and humid day trips, we returned to the house to enjoy the mountain breezes, swim, prepare dinner on the grill, and pore over the home's numerous Costa Rican natural history books in search of something we'd seen that day. It really was the perfect retreat. Do not miss the Uvita Farmer's Market on Saturday. Although quite small, they offer wonderful tamales, breads, fruits and veggies either not available or far fresher than those found in the supermarkets, eggs, homemade plantain chips, spices, artisan cheeses, and hand crafts. Be sure to go early as they run out of the popular items. The only disappointing purchase was a bag of shrimp that turned out to be bland and mushy. The grocery stores in the area (Dominical and Uvita) are fine for meat, dairy, rustic baguettes, and most other items, albeit expensive, but the fresh produce is really lacking. San Isidro is a larger town and offers a better selection. They also have a farmer's market on Thursday(?) but we couldn't find it. The best fruit stands are found along the road from Dominical to San Isidro. Be warned, this road is quite dangerous with trucks drifting into the oncoming lane on turns. We saw several really horrible accidents and always proceeded very slowly around blind corners. Other food finds, Cafe Delicias (sp?) in Dominical sells croissants that are quite good, but cannot comment on the restaurant food as we didn't try it. Although we mainly cooked at home, our favorite restaurants were Villa Leonor in Ojochal (hearty food, beautiful beach and setting), Porque No?, Roadshack Deli, and Sabor Espanol. We found La Fogata Pizzeria disappointing when we ordered dishes other than pizza. I'd like to spend my last allowed characters in this review to thank Massi, Vilma, and all of the wonderful staff from Costa Ballena Management who made our stay at VMS so comfortable. Massi responded very quickly and professionally to all issues that arose and we only regret not getting the chance to meet him. We would return to VMS in a heartbeat, and hopefully will!"

  • Casa de Selva

"Property was beautiful and in perfect condition and the pictures give you an idea of how wonderful it is but only the individuals operating the property exceed this wonderful property. Rachel and Adam had everything ready and anything necessary was given to us or told "how to" in excellent detail. They had all the best restaurants and activities lined up for us and even an on site chef! Tremendous people to work with and a open jungle experience all are yours at this property. Rachel is amazing from your arrival transportation with Sterling to your departure she has you and your trip totally taken care of."

  • Incredible location with breathtaking views

"The house and property were exactly as we would have imagined--everything was very well cared for, property meticulously manicured, and the house was spotless when we arrived. It might have been helpful prior to arriving to have a floor plan so that we could think about where the children might sleep, etc. but we managed just fine. We are a family of five (children ages 8,10,11) and fit in the house comfortably. We had access to the guest house, but did not need it or use it. The main house has a very large open central living space--kitchen, dining room, living room and small media/study alcove--w/ screened windows (and not air conditioned, but comfortable when the sliding doors are open). The two bedrooms are on either side of the main living space. The master bedroom is very spacious, has a king size bed, with its own sliding door to a small deck, and the master bathroom is very large with open air (screened) windows and a bidet. The second bedroom is a little smaller, with its own bathroom. Both of the bedrooms are air conditioned & cool off very quickly when turned on at bedtime. Adjacent to the master bedroom (you have to walk through the master BR to get there) there is a small loft in a turret with screened windows all around, but no A/C--this would have been a great spot for one or two of the kids if it was air conditioned! The pool was well cared for and clean, a good size and we spent most of our down time at the house swimming in the pool. The guest house has 2 separate apartments which do not connect, each have their own balcony that faces the ocean. The upstairs unit has a sitting area with TV, A/C and kitchen, bedroom separate w/ its own A/C & bathroom; the downstairs unit is a bedroom w/ bathroom & balcony. All of the furnishings & decor were appropriate to the house's style and we loved it. The only aspects of the house that might need some attention were a few loose boards on the deck and some loose tiles in the main house--which were mentioned to the house manager, and they plan address these issues. The house is right near the Hotel del Angel, which has a wonderful restaurant (serving all gluten free organic food) and spa services. Quick drive into Dominical (~7-10 min?), even though it looks far away on a map. The rental service was ok, not as helpful as concierge services offered to friends of ours renting a house down the street. Would definitely recommend this house to families or groups of friends!"
