  • LOVED IT!!!

"My husband and I were here for 10 days and did not want to leave! Loved the wildlife all around us. Laying in the pool and watching the monkeys move through the trees above us was so entertaining. Very private, relaxing area. Jolly Roger is right down the road and a very fun spot. Live music, great food and super fun staff. Villa Helena was in a great location for our activities, beaches, off-shore fishing, hiking to waterfalls and shopping. Owners and property managers are both extremely helpful through the entire process. Like having a personal travel agent...everything they recommended, we loved! We DEFINITELY want to come back!"

  • Great Home! Great Value! Great Host!

"I was part of a group of six adults and two children staying at this most awesome home for Christmas 2014. In every group, some can be comfortable, while others not. I loved Gary's home! Everything that is needed can be found here! I loved waking up before sunrise, sitting on the back porch with my husband watching the sun rise over the beach. Pool stayed in almost constant use. We used the built-in barbecue located next to the pool. This area also boasts showers, bathrooms, and volleyball net with ball! ready for a fun family game. In the backyard, the fence door opens right onto the beach. After walking on the beach there is a water hose making it easy to rinse the sand off. This house is in a perfect beach location! Really enjoyed walking for a couple of miles after the tide rolls out in the morning. Beautiful landscape, lots of nice people to meet. Most amenities Gary listed were put to good use, #1- WIFI! The Ping-Pong table held several matches, the foosball table saw some action. Even my husband enjoyed the rope swing… we have pictorial evidence. We enjoyed puzzles at the table in the evenings. On Christmas, we played our annual game of Risk which lasted to the next day! We left the game for many others to enjoy. If you like open air, then this home offers it! Large windows with large doors that allow good circulation throughout the main part of the house - gives a "beachy" feel and not closed up. Plenty of ceiling fans throughout the house! Full kitchen with plenty of counter-space. A large refrigerator and pantry. Easy to cook breakfast and dinners when desired. Bedrooms were spacious. If a box fan is not in your room, ask Gary and for an extension cord if need be! It is true the shower water is not American standard hot. Gary was able to adjust the water from being tepid to warm. Gary is the best host ever! Shortly after arriving my husband became ill from a flu he picked up at work and unable to travel to the airport the next day to pick up the rest of our group. At a moment's notice, Gary was able to make the second trip but also stop by the pharmacy to get flu medicine. His wife immediately provided two icepacks. Everybody's opinion matters, but only you can decide what is important to you! If you are looking for Pura Vida in Costa Rica with the greatest host, the greatest place, at the greatest price… choose property #17355!"

  • Unbelievably awesome house in an ideal location!!!

"I cannot say enough positive things about my experience in this house. This was my SECOND time here, and I honestly can't imagine staying anywhere else in Costa Rica. First off, the house is GORGEOUS and it's so nice to have privacy. The pool is amazing and the rooftop deck is so peaceful - you can even see monkeys in the trees behind the property in the early morning or evening! The rooms are spacious, the kitchen is modern and updated, and the place is very well maintained by the staff at Ecovida, who are some of the nicest people you'll encounter. I also love being able to cook my own food at times, and/or just lounge at night and watch a movie on cable. As far as the location goes, you're 2 blocks from the beach (an easy walk), there's a small grocery store within walking distance, it's a 10 min drive to Esterillos, where you can have drinks on the beach at Hotel Alma. It's a 30 min drive to Jaco, about 45 minutes to Manuel Antonio National Park, which is one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. You honestly can't ask for more, and the owner of the home - Michael - is so accommodating, friendly, and helpful. I would recommend staying here to anyone who asked me!"

  • Accurately described

"Pros. In the description it is quite clear that this is a remote location with incredible views. It certainly was that and more. The beach and grounds are beautiful. The water amazing for swimming. Glorified camping for sure. Rafa the caretaker is amazing and truly a hard worker and kind. He is worth his weight in gold. Jim and Sofie are very nice and accomodating. The boat ride to the house from Sierpe beautiful and the smells along the river are amazing. As Jim indicates in his review you should be in good shape for this adventure. Cons. I am not in good shape at 57 but I thought I could do this. I did it but it was difficult for me. From getting in and out of the boat at the house (there is not a dock or ladder to the boat) to climbing the stairs to the house, I had a difficult time. The pictures of the house are somewhat accurate but overall not as nice in reality as in the pics but I find that is always the case when you rent homes or hotel rooms. The house is very worn but if camping is your thing you should be very happy here. The heat and humidity was unbearable for not only me but my 20 year old daughter and 53 year old husband. We did a half day fishing trip with Jim and Sofie and they made sure my daughter caught a prize catch of a 50lb whahu fish. You should ask Jim to bring ice out for your fishing trip as that would make the trip more enjoyable for you as you won't have a way to get ice any other way. We did see howler monkeys right outside our door and iguanas. We were not lucky enough to see the scarlet macaws. We would not recommend the waterfall hike as promoted in the home manual. It is not an easy walk nor is it on an established trail. It felt like going in to Vietnam. Rafa saved my daughter and husband from being bitten by a 6ft long fer de lance snake. Rafa and his dogs spotted it first and killed it. Needless to say my family turned around and did not go to the waterfall that day. Overall I would not return due to my age and physical fitness or not. The heat was too much for us and I felt that there were too many bugs and geckos in the house including ants. The house has a very wet and humid feel to it and it just turned me off. Having said all this Jim could not have done anything more than he has done in describing the home and location. I feel he is accurate. I give this 4 stars not because of Jim but just in general my perception."
