  • Wonderful vacation home!

"We spent a wonderful month at Villa Mountain Serenity and really could have spent an additional month if time had permitted. The property is very comfortable, in a great location, and was really perfect for us. Mornings always started early with coffee at poolside, binoculars in hand for bird watching, and listening to the lovely toucans who were ever-present in the mornings and early evenings. After many hot and humid day trips, we returned to the house to enjoy the mountain breezes, swim, prepare dinner on the grill, and pore over the home's numerous Costa Rican natural history books in search of something we'd seen that day. It really was the perfect retreat. Do not miss the Uvita Farmer's Market on Saturday. Although quite small, they offer wonderful tamales, breads, fruits and veggies either not available or far fresher than those found in the supermarkets, eggs, homemade plantain chips, spices, artisan cheeses, and hand crafts. Be sure to go early as they run out of the popular items. The only disappointing purchase was a bag of shrimp that turned out to be bland and mushy. The grocery stores in the area (Dominical and Uvita) are fine for meat, dairy, rustic baguettes, and most other items, albeit expensive, but the fresh produce is really lacking. San Isidro is a larger town and offers a better selection. They also have a farmer's market on Thursday(?) but we couldn't find it. The best fruit stands are found along the road from Dominical to San Isidro. Be warned, this road is quite dangerous with trucks drifting into the oncoming lane on turns. We saw several really horrible accidents and always proceeded very slowly around blind corners. Other food finds, Cafe Delicias (sp?) in Dominical sells croissants that are quite good, but cannot comment on the restaurant food as we didn't try it. Although we mainly cooked at home, our favorite restaurants were Villa Leonor in Ojochal (hearty food, beautiful beach and setting), Porque No?, Roadshack Deli, and Sabor Espanol. We found La Fogata Pizzeria disappointing when we ordered dishes other than pizza. I'd like to spend my last allowed characters in this review to thank Massi, Vilma, and all of the wonderful staff from Costa Ballena Management who made our stay at VMS so comfortable. Massi responded very quickly and professionally to all issues that arose and we only regret not getting the chance to meet him. We would return to VMS in a heartbeat, and hopefully will!"

  • Exceeded High Expectations

"We spent a week with our children and grandchildren in this incredible villa which easily accommodated our group of 15. Maids, which came daily, kept the place spotless. We hired Tuto and Florie to cook suppers for us. The meals, which included hors d'oeuvres, salad, and desert, were excellent and cost about half as much as we would have paid in a restaurant. Usually enough food for lunch was left over. Our kids loved the large pool."

  • Best apartment living in Santa Teresa!

"For apartment living in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, there is no better place to stay than the centrally located Plaza Royal. The apartments are on the second floor, and there are retail shops on the ground floor. The apartments are clean, secure, air-conditioned, and well-maintained. The property manager and the owner of Plaza Royal are super conscientious, and they go out of their way to make sure that their clients have a wonderful time and get everything they need. Each apartment has a large kitchen, at least one large bedroom, and a huge front room and kitchen with large windows and a beautiful view of the plaza and the restaurants across the street. Wi-fi, cable television, and weekly cleaning service are all included. On the ground floor of Plaza Royal are all of the retail shops you could want for the beach life. Lost in Santa Teresa Surf Shop is owned and operated by an excellent surfer and highly experienced surf instructor. La Sandwicheria, a new deli-style café, is owned and operated by a lovely Argentine couple. Joy Spa boasts highly trained massage therapists, hair-stylists, and other spa-professionals. Lula is a delightful women’s beach clothing store that is very reasonably priced. Lastly, the Plaza Royal management office is also on the ground floor of the building, which makes asking questions and solving problems very easy. All of the employees and owners of these shops are cordial, relaxed, and professional. They all know each other and get along very well, which makes Plaza Royal like a community within a community. Perhaps best of all, Plaza Royal is a two-minute walk from the beach. You will love this place!"

  • I will return!

"First, no matter what I say after this, "expect me back". The interior of the house was well maintained, clean and adequate space for two people. It was excellent to work with Paula the owner and Claudette the caretaker. They were both very responsive to every email and phone call. I wanted a quiet get away and that's what I got. The kitchen had everything that we needed to prepare meals and though we did forget some minor things, they were easily found within a five minute drive. The ocean was literally a stone throw away, which was the best part of the stay. The sound of the ocean and the ocean breeze was so relaxing and tranquil. The internet worked great, so I could lay in the lounge chair on the large exterior covered porch and enjoy NFL games and the atmosphere of the ocean simultaneously. If I had anything to recommend for improvement would be the bed in the master bedroom. It's a small room, so I know it would be difficult for a larger bed to fit, but the pillows on the master bed did not smell so fresh and my feet hung out over the foot of the bed. We did meet Dan the neighbor a very pleasant chap from Ohio, I will not hold that against him and his mellow dog Donna. It became funny that Donna always knew when to show up for meal time. :) All in all, I loved my stay and definitely looking forward to a return visit."
