"I stayed at this lodge for a very short period, but I did not want to leave. It is the most peaceful place to stay at. Granted that I was there during the low season, but I also know that Mal Pais doesn't get flooded with tourists as other towns in the area, so it's pretty quiet with rock-free beaches. The lodge itself is very clean and the open concept is just a unique and beautiful feature of it, making it aesthetically very pleasing and enjoyable. It has all the necessary furniture, appliances (even a blender)...the owners are very friendly and warm people!"

"We just returned from two weeks at Don Tomas' enchanting tropical hacienda where we had a spectacularly relaxing vacation! We thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of seclusion that his lovely home offers, while still being easily accessible to groceries and the funky coastal town of Santa Teresa (which has an array of exceptionally good restaurants!).
Our favorite activities included reclining on the wrap around porch to delight in the myriad of tropical flowers and wildlife, (iguanas, hummingbirds, butterflies, birds, squirrels, crabs) that abound on the unique grounds--which are also spectacular in that they are filled with ancient tropical trees, hanging vines and tropical flowers. The backdrop of crashing surf sounds are as soothing as the surfing is exhilarating! Returning from the beach to an outdoor shower, lovely private pool and porch hammocks was also a treat. The house is simply furnished, yet has all the basics that one needs--with a very comfortable queen size bed. Charming murals decorate the rooms and the porch houses a lovely sculpted column of intertwined goddesses. Josefa, the caretaker, is exceptionally kind and welcoming and was ever so helpful with whatever was needed--a caring and responsive hostess! We were enchanted, are telling others about this tropical beachfront gem of a place--and are already looking forward to our next trip there!"

"Two weeks after returning home, we are still in awe of how fantastic this place was. It met and exceeded every expectation. We really couldn't think of how it could be better. intimacy? check. rich jungle flora and fauna? check. amazing view? check. close to amenities and beaches? check. jungle paths to explore? check. a big yard? check. air conditioned comfortable bedrooms? check. clean and well-maintained? check. complimentary fruit and beer in the fridge? check.
1)the location is phenomenal. There were a lot of cicedas when we were there, but also birds, and of course howler monkeys, which come right to the edge of the jungle and can be seen from the house. For Canadians, it was very surreal to see flocks of parrots and giant butterflies. There is a breathtaking view down the mountain to the sea. Looking down from above, it was beautiful to see rolling mist over the lower forests while we had only stars above us.
2)There is a fantastic in-ground tiled infinity pool, complete with a shallow end and a deep end sufficient for diving. When you turn it on, you get a little waterfall into the pool that toddlers get ridiculously excited over. Our kids loved the pool, and spent hours a day in it.
3)The yard is large and beautiful. It is the perfect size to preserve a sense of intimacy, and always be close to the jungle. It is large enough for kids to explore and play hide and seek.
4)The house feels luxurious. The rooms are all spacious, including the kitchen, living and dining rooms and bedrooms. The kitchen is well laid out and can handle a crowd helping to prepare meals. There are two bedrooms upstairs adjoining a common bathroom with a shower upstairs with a small mezzanine for hanging out. The balconies are nice, and there are some bats that spend the day hanging under the roof and watching you outside. They keep the bugs away, and are fun to watch at dusk. My parents slept in the master bedroom downstairs with a lavish ensuite bathroom, which gave us all some privacy.
5) the roof is wide and provides lots of shelter from sun or rain around the house. We ate outside a few times, which isn't a substantially different experience from eating in the dining room, as all the walls are either windows or doors.
6) It would have been nice to perhaps have a few extra bowls and some sharp knives. That's it. That's the only thing that could make this place better.
We are really hoping to go back to this place!"

"We loved Paradise found! It was the perfect Costa Rican getaway house with all the necessary amenities from cookware to beach towels! No air conditioning, but ceiling fans in every room kept the house cool. Nice veranda out front to escape the hot sun and look out at the beach a few yards away. Lovely clean pool was refreshing and a great place to sip cocktails in the evening. Several restaurants close by including Los Pelicanos-our favorite! Short drive to Jaco for grocery stores, bank, gift shops etc. Great house for familiies and or group of friends. Mark, the caretaker and his sweet family live on the premises and are there to answer questions or give advice. We can not wait to go back!"
