  • House near Tarcoles

"There were 8 adults on this trip. 4 stayed stayed in this house and 4 next door. We had a very relaxing time. We were looking for affordable lodging, not a 4 star resort or motel/hotel. We wanted to be immersed in the culture of Costa Rica. We felt very safe and secure here. The locals were all very friendly. Sure wish we spoke Spanish. These houses fit the bill. The houses were clean and bedrooms were air conditioned. A problem with a water heater and an air conditioner were fixed right away. In the 2 story only 1 main shower was working. We made do without the other 2 so never mentioned it. There is a fish camp next to one of the houses. It was interesting watching them as they headed out and returned each day. Patri did an absolutely wonderful job at taking care of our every need. We enjoyed coffee every morning with the Macaws and Frigates and local dogs. They seemed to know we were dog lovers and were waiting for us every morning when we stepped outside. Walked the beach a few times everyday. You won't want to swim here. Very rocky and the commercial shrimpers come too close to shore and keep the water stirred up. There is swimming a short walk away. We used the pools everyday. Tarcoles is a small fishing village. It is a close enough walk via beach, at low tide, or road for supplies. If you walk the beach you will encounter the boat "yard" where the locals mend nets and fix boats. We also took the bus to Heradura and Jaco a few times. Another reviewer mentioned how the trucks using their jake brakes was a problem. Yes you can hear them but actually this did not bother us. Very much enjoyed meeting Gino and Maria form Tico Style Tours, Gilbreth, of Jaco Travels and Herra and his family who kept up the grounds and pool. Herra brought us different local fruits each day from his garden. What a joy that was trying fruits we had never heard of before. Being so close to the ocean and being able to hear it at night was so relaxing. We grilled fresh fish and shrimp from the fish coop. We had a very good time. Thanks again to Patri for helping make this a memorable vacation."

  • Fantastic

"I am writing this review while enjoying a delicious cup of Costa Rican coffee listening to the birds and waves - and sitting on the couch of this fantastic rental! Sherri-Lee (the owner) you were just wonderful to deal with, thank you for making booking our first private condo such an easy and stress free experience. The location is GREAT! We are right on the beach where we have surfed and relaxed every day. Cab rides into town are no more than $3 American and we have also walked many times (15 minutes or so). Its peaceful and quiet, the staff at Paloma Blanca and Daystar has been just wonderful and it feels very safe. The condo itself has a VERY comfortable king sized bed and couch built for lounging. The kitchen has all the utensils we needed including some Tupperware containers which came in very handy for our day trips. I also didn't realise before getting here - but there is a full laundry room which has come in very handy for washing beach towels and some clothes we have gotten dirty on all of our adventure trips. We are here with 4 other couples who have rented other units in the complex also and the walk out to the pool made things really easy! It was just my husband and I staying, but the unit would have comfortably fit two couples. The second bedroom has its own flat screen and double bed, plus a full second washroom in addition to the ensuite. For the price, you cant beat it! If you're in to surfing, Tortuga Surf School sets up right in front of the complex and offers amazing surf lessons and board rentals - and also let us use their beach loungers and umbrellas. Tours and activities we took from here included - Jose's crocodile tours (we actually got to touch a giant one), Tortuga island (absolutely beautiful and super fun, but don't get too excited about the snorkeling), zip lining, and rappelling down 300 feet of waterfalls in the rain forest. All were able to pick us up from our front gates. Also - the food here has been FANTASTIC! We have tried to stick to local Costa Rican places and avoid the americanized ones and we haven't had a meal yet that wasn't great, and well priced. If I'm ever lucky enough to come back to this beautiful place I would rent this unit again in a heartbeat, and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to explore Jaco and Costa Rica! Thanks again!"

  • Great for the price.

"My sister and I enjoyed our stay at El Encanto. Close enough to downtown Jaco, but far enough away. I have stayed at many places in and around Jaco and El Encanto is far a better bang for your buck. Plus Curt is really a cool and mello dude. Had a great time on the waterfall tour he runs. Rooms are comfortable with plenty of hot and water and cold a.c."

  • Week stay in Jaco during Green season

"My wife and I with our 2 friends try to go to the Caribbean every year. This year we decided to try something different and picked Costa Rica on the Pacific side. I am usually reluctant to go to a place where we have no reccomendations from friends, but we decided to give it a try. The condo was large, clean, Well furnished and was facing the water. The management staff was attentive to all our needs as well as arranging for our airport transportation and excursions. The town of Jaco was one block away and all the people were friendly and helpful. Lots of choices to eat and easy to meld into the culture. If we go back to Jaco we would stay at the same complex again."
