  • House near Tarcoles

"There were 8 adults on this trip. 4 stayed stayed in this house and 4 next door. We had a very relaxing time. We were looking for affordable lodging, not a 4 star resort or motel/hotel. We wanted to be immersed in the culture of Costa Rica. We felt very safe and secure here. The locals were all very friendly. Sure wish we spoke Spanish. These houses fit the bill. The houses were clean and bedrooms were air conditioned. A problem with a water heater and an air conditioner were fixed right away. In the 2 story only 1 main shower was working. We made do without the other 2 so never mentioned it. There is a fish camp next to one of the houses. It was interesting watching them as they headed out and returned each day. Patri did an absolutely wonderful job at taking care of our every need. We enjoyed coffee every morning with the Macaws and Frigates and local dogs. They seemed to know we were dog lovers and were waiting for us every morning when we stepped outside. Walked the beach a few times everyday. You won't want to swim here. Very rocky and the commercial shrimpers come too close to shore and keep the water stirred up. There is swimming a short walk away. We used the pools everyday. Tarcoles is a small fishing village. It is a close enough walk via beach, at low tide, or road for supplies. If you walk the beach you will encounter the boat "yard" where the locals mend nets and fix boats. We also took the bus to Heradura and Jaco a few times. Another reviewer mentioned how the trucks using their jake brakes was a problem. Yes you can hear them but actually this did not bother us. Very much enjoyed meeting Gino and Maria form Tico Style Tours, Gilbreth, of Jaco Travels and Herra and his family who kept up the grounds and pool. Herra brought us different local fruits each day from his garden. What a joy that was trying fruits we had never heard of before. Being so close to the ocean and being able to hear it at night was so relaxing. We grilled fresh fish and shrimp from the fish coop. We had a very good time. Thanks again to Patri for helping make this a memorable vacation."

  • Great getaway

"Having lived in Jaco in 2012, my husband and I are fairly aware of current accommodation options in the area. We chose Corteza del Sol for our last trip back because it is a great location with great amenities at an unbeatable price. The condo was simple, but beautiful! It had everything we needed and more. We also love the location just outside of downtown - it's so peaceful and perfect for anybody looking for some rest and relaxation. The pool is beautiful and not crowded at all. In fact, we usually had it to ourselves. Though I never feel unsafe in Costa Rica, Corteza del Sol has a great security team that would make even the most nervous travelers feel comfortable. My husband and I will definitely stay here again in the future!"

  • perfect

"We had a perfect stay at this house! We didn't think we would use the pool very much, but we ended up using it almost every morning. It's secluded and quiet. I saw butterflies, dragonflies, and 5 toucans one morning all in the backyard! fyi, don't leave your camera in the kitchen if you are going outside to swim or read. Never know what you might see. The few neighbors we met were extremely nice and helpful. And Kelie was amazing. Took time out of her day to help us with any questions we had when we first arrived. The drive to the house gets a little long after about a week, but it didn't really bother us. We just made sure we had everything we needed for the day before leaving. A flashlight did come in handy a few times. Any night walks, you might need one. I would stay here again if or when I return to Jaco area."
