  • Clean, safe, beautiful location, but not quite as advertised

"We were really excited to stay at this Playa Hermosa Bungalow. While the place was clean and the location was beautiful there were some key things that were not as described. First of all, no drinking water was provided. This was a real bummer, as we had just flown overnight and driven from SJO and wanted to relax on the front porch with a nice cup of water. We ended up taking one of the empty 5 gallon jugs to Mas X Menos and getting it filled. I let the owner know and she made no apologies or effort to reimburse us. There is no telescope, nor long distance phone calls or a helpful property manager who will assist you with tours. For some reason, the maid did not fully make the beds, so we were without a blanket for one of them. Aaron did provide us with one of his, but it was not clean, but we made do. We did not feel comfortable asking him for anything after that point-- there was a certain vibe to him that made you feel as if you shouldn't bother him. I did let the owner know about the telescope and phone calls and she basically played ignorant. Had we known that some of the descriptive items were not available, nor accurate, we probably would not have gone with this house, as these were selling points for us. Some of other property managers were much more interactive and friendly. I would suggest renting a bungalow from them if you want to be able to feel comfortable asking questions about what to do in the area and where to go. Besides all of the "surprises" we really did enjoy a peaceful vacation. We spent a lot of the time on the front porch. There is a nice ocean view. On the back porch we spent time looking at all the birds and animal visitors. We did get to see the monkeys. We lounged in the pool and the hammocks and felt quite relaxed. Victor, the fisherman, came by our place and had delicious catches. A walk along the beach to some of the restaurants was a fun time. The Backyard has a nice happy hour going on. The Bluegrass Cafe had delicious cinnamon rolls. And, make sure you take a trip to the waterfalls: Tres Pascinas."

  • two life time freinds, Mike and Bob

"1st Costa Rica Trip for Bob and I and it met all of our expectations the owner Eileen was such a big help with prep that we actually went on are own without the extra costs of tour guide add on costs. The reviews were accurate and the accomadations were excellent. We had such a great time that we changed our travel plans and stayed in the rain forest (rental car) and drove through the country. The Sky Trek zip line at Arenal Volcano is a must, we also entered the public access and enjoyed the hot springs at no cost. The food was out of this world everywhere in the country, but agree with Eillen on her Green Room in Jaco, get the special, salid with Tuna steak on top. Very special to all of the Day Star Employee's especially Eric at the Gate, Anthony our boat captain and first class crew, we made an under water movie of a sailfish that Bob caught one of many fish, and Eileen for all the information that really was the key to our whole experience. we also got special tickets for a return trip that is in the future. Big Thanks Mike"

  • Fantastic vacation location

"I brought my family of 4, kids 7 and 9, to Macaws and we had a great time. The condo was better than expected, and lived up to the advertisement. It was very clean and accessible. We were less than a 2 minute walk to the best beach we visited in Costa Rica and the close proximity to groceries, restaurants and downtown was perfect. My family and I wanted to experience the country outside of the "resort" and it was perfect for that. We rented a car from San Jose and driving was very easy. Getting to Jaco, follow the signs to Manuel Antonio (it is 60km south of Jaco). We met some wonderful other guests visiting who, along with the owners recommendations, made our vacation one to remember. We went with Rafa the father of the monkeys guy (awesome monkey tour) and the zipline and horseback tours at Los suenos were fantastic. Unfortunately, the snorkeling on the West side of the country is not good. Sunset at the villa caletas (north of Jaco 10km) is also a great thing to see, they have an amphitheater to view the sunset. Cabs to downtown were very reasonable, and you can walk to downtown as well, if you wanted to. Richard, the owner, was fantastic to work with and he was in constant contact throughout the process. I could not have been happier with their Condo or how they took care of us. This is truly a place I would recommend ANYONE to go to. We loved is and I hope you do too."

  • Bungalow 14

"This is the 3rd year in a row that my husband and I have stayed in Bungalow 14 at Hermosa Beach Bungalows in Costa Rica. We absolutely love our February vacation every year in Costa Rica, so much so that we keep adding on days and book our favorite bungalow 14 right after we leave for the following year. Bungalow 14 is centrally located with the pool just yards from your door and the beach is just a short walk across the beach. The bungalow has all the amenities you could want, a full kitchen, dishwasher, washer/dryer. A water cooler with drinkable water. The bungalow was recently redecorated and has 2 bedrooms. The bathroom is brand new with excellent water pressure in the shower. There is a nice porch in the front of the bungalow with a hammock and chairs where one can lounge or sit and eat. My husband and I highly recommend this bungalow. The staff is also very helpful with what every your needs are."

Jaco Travel Tips

Jaco Beach Rentals in a Sleepy Beach Town

Jaco was once the archetypal beach town where you would find surfers lining the waves, others sleeping on the beach, and more walking around shirtless in just board shorts. Once word got out about hidden area and the surfing to be found there, Jaco Beach rentals became premiere destinations. Surfers from all over the world spend weeks at Jaco resorts to ride the high waves.

Vacations in Costa Rica at Jaco Beach are usually in Puntarenas Province on the Pacific Coast. Jaco is in central Costa Rica less than two hours from San Jose.

Jaco Resorts for International Surfing

Surfing is what draws most tourists to Jaco resorts, yet the town does not lack fun. There are several bars, restaurants, and places to visit but on the whole, vacations in Costa Rica to Jaco are all about the surfing. The waves are high and unyielding which means swimming is dangerous and riptides frequent the waters. However, for those who do not surf, Jaco beach rentals can still be great places to visit.

Vacations in Costa Rica at Playa Hermosa and Herradura

It is true that Jaco's water is less than perfect for swimming but Playa Hermosa and Playa Herradura which are within six miles of Jaco are great for swimming. Playa Hermosa has an international surf convention each year and Playa Herradura is another top surf beach. Both the beaches are great for sunbathing, horseback riding, and enjoying the view of the Pacific Ocean. Vacations in Costa Rica can also be about eco-tourism with canopy tours, jungle trips, and hiking if you want to get away from the beach for a while.

When to Visit Jaco Beach Rentals

The best time to visit Jaco beach rentals is from January to April. These months offer the driest season. September and October are the rainiest months which you might want to avoid if you really want to see and experience Costa Rica. At other times of the year, the rainfall can come and go so you can expect to find Jaco resorts somewhat busy.
