  • House near Tarcoles

"There were 8 adults on this trip. 4 stayed stayed in this house and 4 next door. We had a very relaxing time. We were looking for affordable lodging, not a 4 star resort or motel/hotel. We wanted to be immersed in the culture of Costa Rica. We felt very safe and secure here. The locals were all very friendly. Sure wish we spoke Spanish. These houses fit the bill. The houses were clean and bedrooms were air conditioned. A problem with a water heater and an air conditioner were fixed right away. In the 2 story only 1 main shower was working. We made do without the other 2 so never mentioned it. There is a fish camp next to one of the houses. It was interesting watching them as they headed out and returned each day. Patri did an absolutely wonderful job at taking care of our every need. We enjoyed coffee every morning with the Macaws and Frigates and local dogs. They seemed to know we were dog lovers and were waiting for us every morning when we stepped outside. Walked the beach a few times everyday. You won't want to swim here. Very rocky and the commercial shrimpers come too close to shore and keep the water stirred up. There is swimming a short walk away. We used the pools everyday. Tarcoles is a small fishing village. It is a close enough walk via beach, at low tide, or road for supplies. If you walk the beach you will encounter the boat "yard" where the locals mend nets and fix boats. We also took the bus to Heradura and Jaco a few times. Another reviewer mentioned how the trucks using their jake brakes was a problem. Yes you can hear them but actually this did not bother us. Very much enjoyed meeting Gino and Maria form Tico Style Tours, Gilbreth, of Jaco Travels and Herra and his family who kept up the grounds and pool. Herra brought us different local fruits each day from his garden. What a joy that was trying fruits we had never heard of before. Being so close to the ocean and being able to hear it at night was so relaxing. We grilled fresh fish and shrimp from the fish coop. We had a very good time. Thanks again to Patri for helping make this a memorable vacation."

  • Jaco Beach Village Condo 1 BR

"My hubby and I stayed in JBVC for 2 weeks Oct 18-Nov 1, 2014 and thororughly enjoyed our visit. Perfect for a couple since it was a one bedroom (which are difficult to find normally) on the ground floor. Plenty of storage in the condo along with a washer and dryer which worked perfectly. Grounds were very well kept and beautiful. It's a small complex which was nice. Hot tub was just steps from our sliding patio door along with the beautiful pool. Trees in the complex were always visited in the morning, sometimes afternoon by Scarlet Macaws which was always exciting. You can always hear them coming as they are really loud. Security guards were always visable. A great location......just minutes from town and no problem walking back after dark. Bicycle rentals are just up the street from JBVC. We have traveled to Mexico for the last 20 yrs and this being our first trip to CR, I was much impressed with the people of CR. You will be within walking distance of several beach bars to watch the beautiful sunsets each night. Make a stop at The Point Beach Bar (go left on the beach)....good food, good drinks. Ask for directions to Miro's Mountain when a hike sounds good. It's very interesting and FREE. It will be worth your effort. Dave, owner of the condo, was very easy to work with, promptly answered emails, and was happy to answer questions by phone. We did line up our RT transportation with Dave's Airport Rides who had increased his one way to $90 because of increase in gas prices. Once again, no problem with transportation. FYI for you newbies: when exiting after collecting your luggage at airport, stop at the duty free liquor shop to stock your condo. Very convenient! There were a couple of problems with our stay but nothing important enough to write about. Would I go back to CR? Would I stay at JBVC? You bet!"

  • Week in paradise

"This condo was the perfect place for a vacation! Just to wake up to the views every day made us want to stay. We can't wait to go back to have our cocktails by the pool. We will definitely be renting again as soon as we can. Bruce made the renting process so easy and was so great at answering our questions and making us feel at home. Thanks, Bruce!"
