"Had a great time in this property at the start of green season. We did have some unbelievable thunderstorms (according to the caretaker, Bismark, the worst he's heard in 40 years), but everything was very nice and exactly as described, so read carefully. Some notes: - the view is gorgeous--this is what sold me on the property and we weren't disappointed in the least. As a bonus, we were treated to daily sightings of toucans and capuchin monkeys. They literally play in the trees & garden between the house and the road. There's lots of other wildlife. You'll wake up to the howler monkeys for sure. - there are a lot of steps to climb up & down. There's a pulley system to help with luggage, but you'll be going up & down steps a lot. - when in doubt, ask. Bismark's entire family is VERY helpful. We had a few bad sunburns; we able to help ourselves to some aloe growing in the garden and were given some aloe-based creme. It's so nice having someone nearby to keep in eye on things and to answer questions. - the beaches are nice--Playa Biesanz is more protected (no riptides) if you have smaller children. We actually drove to the entrance way and parked on the road--it's all up-hill coming back and we wanted the kids to have energy for other stuff. - the balconies banisters are somewhat low and the floor boards are spaced kind of far apart. It's nice but something you might want to consider with kids. - Since we did arrive in green season, it's worth mentioning that although it was somewhat hot, we didn't have any issues with bugs or mosquitoes or anything. There were some gnats in the bathroom sink each morning for whatever reason, but we didn't have any issues with biting insects. We had fans that worked well (we moved the big one downstairs to the 2nd bedroom where the kids slept; that solved that problem). - the kitchen was fine and exactly. The refrigerator/freezer worked well. There's no oven, but I honestly don't want to start up an oven when I'm vacationing in the summer in the tropics. There were dishes and pots & pans, toaster, coffee maker, etc. and those all worked fine. The outdoor shower was really good to clean up after a day at the beach. Also--it's hard not to look at the other non-5 star review... but in my opinion you can't compare properties in Manuel Antonio to Arenal any more than you can compare a mountain lodge in Colorado to a beach house in Hawaii."

  • Most friendly hotel I have ever been to in my life.

"This is definitely a place for family. It's amazing to see how the hotel and nature lives together. Aside the awesome view, what makes me happy most was the staff. It truly feels like everyone in the resort have their customers at heart. We had our own concierge, Andres - super helpful and friendly. The shuttle driver, Willy was sooooo amazing, he talked to us and showed us wildlife even just for a 1 minute drive. Kiskadee was gorgeous and so well kept. Everything was so comfortable. From the service to the casa, to the wildlife, to the private beach, it was just a great experience. The only drawback that I have is I didn't book longer to stay in Tulemar"

  • Living with Nature in the Rain Forest

"Our family stayed at Brooks Hacienda for a week over the 2014 Thanksgiving holiday and had a wonderful trip. As other reviews have stated, this is a great location to see the rainforest and wildlife right from the deck and poolside. During our stay we were able to see and hear all types of monkeys and birds with a beautiful backdrop of the rainforest preserve in the backyard. We prefer to stay in a quieter, more relaxing place away from the crowded resorts, so we found Brooks Hacienda to be the perfect spot. The pool is great and all the features of the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroooms are very nice. The house was very clean and the beds are comfortable. Laundry facilities are also available. This is the first time that we have rented a place where the owners were so close by, and we found it very helpful to have Randy and Kate available for questions when we needed it. Kate hooked us up with a great guide for a day trip to the Manuel Antonio Preserve and a jungle canopy tour that included ziplining, swimming at a waterfall, horseback riding in the mountains, and a Costa Rican style lunch at Santa Juana, a small village high in the mountains. This was the best day trip and tour experience that our family has ever been on. Both tours picked us up and dropped us off at the house, so it was very convenient. Kate and Randy really went out of their way to make sure our family had a great experience and had everything we need. Kate even picked up some groceries ahead of time for us since we were arriving late. She also had great recommendations for local restaurants and we found Cafe Milagro, Emilio's Cafe, El Lagarto, and El Wagon Pizza to be very good. We would recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle as the road is a little rough to get to the house, and it is nice to have if you want to explore any beaches or other activities that are off the main roads. This is a quiet neighborhood, so if you are looking for a party spot, this probably would not be the best fit. We can't wait to come back....Pura Vida!"

  • Comfortable Jungle Retreat

"Just returned from excellent vacation to Manuel Antonio region of Costa Rica. The location of this house was excellent -- close to park, beaches, and many excellent restaurants. All five of us (53,52,22,22,16) enjoyed the space of this house and having three bedrooms all with king size beds and all three with attached bathrooms (sink, mirror, shower). Tons of windows in the house, plus the deck and pool area provided excellent views of birds, butterflies, monkeys, iguanas, and geckos. One evening over a dozen monkeys were swinging in the trees "chatting" with us right off of the main deck. All sorts of interesting and large "resident" iguanas that we saw daily on driveway or by pool, plus a giant green iguana in the trees off the deck one morning. Natalia (concierge) and Mrs Flor (cook/housekeeper) were both very friendly. Our average day: coffee on the deck overlooking the forest, breakfast at Cafe Milagro or Emilios, daily activity (beach, park), late afternoon swim, shower, and then off to dinner. Enjoyed our dinners at: Cafe Milagro, Victorias, La Luna, Mirador. The first evening, we pre-arranged for Mrs Flor to prepare dinner for us -- excellent mahi mahi dinner with salad, vegetables, potatoes, and dessert. All of the Costa Rican people we interacted with were extremely friendly. Lastly, we really appreciated having separate air conditioning units in each bedroom as well as the main floor."
