"We had a wonderful stay at Casa Zabala a couple of weeks ago. The home was spacious and charming. We appreciated the warm hospitality of Alex, the brother-in-law of Ken who was away the weekend we were there. The plantation is so peaceful and tropical- mangoes, bananas, mandarin oranges abound and renters are welcome to pick and enjoy. Our 3 young kids fell in love with Estella, the farm's German Shepard! She slept on the porch all night. No satellite tv, but we brought a kindle and laptop and watched netflix with no trouble. Our only regret was not bringing along more family/friends to enjoy this home! So much space went unused! I could have laid on the hammock on the upstairs porch for several days...yet we had only booked one night and were on our way to the beach after seeing the cloud forest. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!"Guest: Laura Date of Stay: August 2014 Review Submitted: August 14, 2014View listing
"There's nothing like the Treetop House anywhere else. One of our kids compared it to Alice in Wonderland's house - another thought we were living like Curious George. They especially loved loved loved swinging in the hammocks! It's not the most comfortable place, however. The house could be upgraded very easily by just the addition of better beds (the beds are just thin mattresses on top of bedframes made with 2x4s - there are no boxsprings), mattress pads (there are none), and better linens / blankets. We found dead bugs and body hair on the sheets making me wonder if they're washed after each visitor. Our 7-year-old son was bitten by a scorpion one night that was hiding in the bedsheets. I don't blame the house for this - after all, we were staying in the jungle and these things do happen. It's also an incredibly noisy house - if anybody upstairs (and there are four floors so there's always someone "upstairs") walks around you can hear absolutely every creak and step. That being said, there is incredible charm here just because of its uniqueness. Also, Sabine is such a gracious host - she was so helpful booking our adventure tour at Selvatura and a night hike (both highly recommended!). And we loved being able to hear the howler monkeys in the morning."Guest: Lisa Date of Stay: November 2014 Review Submitted: December 4, 2014View listing
"We were fortunate to meet owners Regina and Saul upon our check-in at this amazing property. They made us feel completely welcome and at home and our children were immediately drawn to them and their dog, Echo, as well as Max, the caretaker's dog. We had visited Monteverde before and knew of its amazing wildlife and serenity, but had a completely different experience this time because of Yerba Buena. The grounds are beautiful and have little trails and secret spots all around. When we sought a break from our sight-seeing, our kids loved running around the property. It is close to Stella's Bakery, Curi-Cancha Reserve, the cheese factory and delicious Tramonti Restaurant. Regina recommended an amazing guide, who took us on a day hike and a night hike. On our guided hikes saw many species of birds (including tucans and mot mots), as well as a sloth, porcupine, snakes, kinkajou, walking sticks, and much more. We drank our morning coffee and birded from the large picture window of cabin #1. The cabin's kitchen was the best equipped of any of our accommodations on our Costa Rica trip. We made breakfast every morning and two dinners in our four-night stay. Hernan is the on-site caretaker - he is so helpful and sweet. He even made walking sticks for our two kids! I am sure we will return to Monteverde one day, in which case we will surely hope to stay at this amazing home again."Guest: Anonymous Date of Stay: June 2014 Review Submitted: July 7, 2014View listing
"My boyfriend and I stayed at Casa Cielo for 3 days during our recent stay in Costa Rica, and agreed that this was the highlight of our trip. Veronica was wonderful in helping us plan for the trip (things to do, items to bring, driving directions). The property was clean, beds were comfortable, and the house had every little thing you may need during your getaway (from kitchen stuff and wine glasses to binoculars and board games). The best things about Casa Cielo were 1- gorgeous view (which also can be enjoyed from the bath tub), 2 - tropical wildlife (butterflies, jays, flycatchers, and even a couple of toucans came to visit us), and 3 - proximity to various activities in Monteverde/Santa Elena. We'd recommend this place over any of the hotels in the area. Truly a piece of paradise."Guest: Katia T. Date of Stay: November 2014 Review Submitted: December 2, 2014View listing
Monteverde Travel Tips
Monteverde Vacation Rentals in Lush Rainforests
Monteverde travel is not complete without exploring the lush vegetation of Monteverde cloud forest. Walk over the canopy of the rain forest on a Sky Trek tour. Check out the gardens, exhibits, suspension bridges and canopy tours across the 850 acres of Selvatura Park. Learn how coffee is made from start to finish on a coffee farm tour. Take a horseback riding tour or ride a zip line through the luscious foliage of the cloud forest canopies.
Monteverde Travel is an Eco-Tourist's Dream
The cloud forest surrounding Monteverde vacation rentals is not only a great place to have fun exploring, but offers so much to see. Known as one of the most outstanding wildlife refuges in the New World Tropics, you'll never be able to keep track of all the 2,500 species of plants, 100 species of mammals, 400 bird species and thousands of insects you see.
Monteverde Travel Near an Active Volcano
The appeal of staying in Monteverde vacation rentals doesn't stop at the cloud forest. While there is no direct route, Monteverde is three hours from the Arenal Volcano if you travel by taxi and boat. Arenal, a continually active volcano, is one of the most sought after attractions in Costa Rica. You can also make part of the trip by horseback or take a 4x4 across dirt roads. Regardless of your route, the view will be breathtaking.
Puntarenas Beach Homes for Relaxation and Fun
Monteverde is just one of the many beautiful places in the Puntarenas region of Costa Rica. Consider splitting your vacation with a few days in the gorgeous cloud forest and the rest in Puntarenas beach homes along the coast. Soak up the sun, watch the sun set along the Pacific or explore sea life by snorkeling. Puntarenas and Monteverde can provide you with the tropical vacation of your dreams.
