The most wonderful and romantic week long vacation in paradise
"It has taken me half a year to write this review because I have only had wonderful things to say about this property and the experience we had. My boyfriend and I met Ken, the property manager, who was more than helpful and accommodating and took us to the property. The second we arrived, we were in utter awe, by far the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen and the house was outstanding. One of my favorite things about the house was watching the sunset poolside with a cocktail in hand. Ken provided us with many recommendations of restaurants, local beaches, and activities, which was very helpful during our stay.
The house itself was beautiful. I loved the European feel situated in the middle of the jungle. It had everything we could have needed. We loved going to the local markets and cooking food at the house. The indoor outdoor feel of the house was amazing and at night we could hear the waves crash down below on the beach. We pretty much had our own tropical botanical garden surrounding us with the beautiful landscaping, it made it very hard to leave the property. We even had the pleasure of eating breakfast and seeing a handful of tiny toucans feeding in one of the flower plants about 15 feet away.
The private pool was awesome and beautiful. We spent most mornings and evenings taking a swim and then went off on different adventures. There is a veranda for every mood. Perfect for drinking morning coffee on and taking in the views and wildlife, including the green parrot ritual that many others wrote about. Very cool experience.
Rick and Diane were wonderful hosts themselves. Diane would come around the property to garden and her and Rick were staying at the guest house just below us. They even invited us in and gave us a local avocado to eat. They both were super sweet and gave us great recommendations.
Some of our favorite activities were going out to eat at citrus and mama e papas, getting roadside ceviche, the whale tail beach, the tilapia farms, kayaking, day trip to Corcovado, and finding local waterfalls to hang out at. Oojochal has some of the best food and well worth it.
We are definitely planning on coming back to casa Ylang Ylang in the near future. I still can't get the fresh Ylang Ylang smell out of my nose. Another favorite of the house :) It is about a 3 hour drive from San Jose, but beautiful and worth the trek. The surrounding towns were very cute themselves.
Thanks for the most amazing and memorable vacation!"

"This was the absolute perfect place to stay! Every morning, we woke up around 5 and sat on the big beautiful wraparound porch and watched and listened to the wildlife--and there was always so much! Just at the house, we saw toucans, aracaris, a coati, squirrel and howler monkeys, a zillion hummingbirds, bullfrogs as big as plates, chirping lizards, a Blue Morpho butterfly...the list goes on. Our favorites were the pair of toucans who came every morning and evening to say hi. They were so funny!
The house was great for our needs. We played some of the board games kept there, read a book or two, and watched a tiny bit of Downton Abbey. Often we would just sit on the porch and watch the waves in the ocean to the right, or storms in the mountains to the left, or swim in the pool at night and marvel at the bright stars.
The area the house is in is beautiful and user-friendly. We went to a different beach almost every day, hiked to waterfalls, and made frequent trips to the BM supermarket in town. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. One day we drove down to Sierpe and did some adventuring (mangrove tour was spectacular!) as well as visiting an archaeological site (Finca 6).
One of my favorite things about this trip was getting to know one of the neighbors a little bit, and making friends with a nature guide in Sierpe. By the last night, when we drove down to a nearby bar and restaurant for a quick bite to eat, then ran into the neighbor and sat and chatted for an hour or two, it was starting to feel like home. Everything there was just saturated in natural beauty. My perfect vacation. When I got home, I felt completely unwound and relaxed. My boss said I even looked younger!
The only caution I have about the house is that you MUST have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up to it, and it is a bumpy ride--but that was not a big deal for us. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful property and this area. HIGHLY recommended. We will absolutely be back!"

"Casa Rica and Casa Bambu were the perfect accomodations for our third trip to Costa Rica. This time we travelled with our son and his wife. Staying here allowed each couple privacy but certainly made it easy to plan our daily excursions. What we liked about this vacation rental was the fact that you felt like you had plenty of space for relaxation and exploring. The grounds of course are beautiful as each review has stated. Sharon went well out of her way to help us daily but especially for 2 unplanned mishaps and did so graciously. We did find that the dipping pool was our favorite. Our tip is to hit the pool before showering and settling in for the night. It really lowers your core temperature and makes the evening totally comfortable. We had absolutely everything we needed from towels, clothesline, dishes, comfy king size bed, fruits, beautiful scenery abd we cannot leave out the very aromatic ylang ylang. What a treat each time you entered the property to notice that wonderful fragrance. It was our silent greeter. :) We gladly give an excellent rating as Sharon and Mac have worked so very hard to make sure their property exceeds all expectations. Thank you! We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend to anyone staying in the southern zone."

"My wife and I stayed at Toucan Tango for two weeks in late December 2014. We had a better than excellent time, due in no small part to the total environment of Toucan Tango. The attributes are evident from the photos: exquisite view over the rainforest canopy to the ocean, fantastic pool, a lovely home that is fully appointed and furnished. The details: if the elements of nature are not your thing.....then Toucan Tango is not for you. The howler monkeys, giant toads, and plethora of tropical birds are a symphonic backdrop for the entire evening and nighttime. Poolside kitchen is great. Even though there are a number of remarkable restaurants about 10 minutes away in Ojochal, we chose to spend most evenings cooking and dining on the patio. While I would characterize ourselves as adventurers, many days we never even got in our car, opting instead to hang out on the poolside patio and walking in the jungle surrounding the home. The patio is totally private. We were gracioiusly greeted by a neighborhood friend of the owners, who provided us with a thorough orientation. A very useful notebook for the house and region is provided by the owners. Their restaurant recommendations are spot on. The road accessing the house is a fairly rough gravel track which is steep in spots. Accordingly, the owners recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Our experience was that even when we forgot to switch our car into 4 wheel drive mode, there was no problem navigating the track. The house is very spacious. Kitchen is well appointed, and we love to cook. This place reflects great attention to aesthetic details. Great art throughout. Excellent ventilation. The BR's are all air conditioned, but we never once turned any of them on, preferring the gentle breeze provided by nature and about a dozen ceiling fans........even on the patio. The pool is one of the nicest I've experienced at a vrbo rental. Obviously, we are considering a return trip"
