"What a gem! We had a wonderful week at this beautiful spot. It is well hidden on the top of a mountain, accessible only with 4 wheel drive. Once you get there you will not want to leave. The view is spectacular. We were serenaded daily by the kiskadee, with toucans all around making lively conversation. A birder's paradise- all from the comfort of a rocking chair on the open balcony. Hummingbirds abound, and a family of golden napped woodpeckers were there every morning.
The pool was a perfect spot to watch the sunset and see the weather moving in over the Pacific Ocean and the Oja peninsula. What a spectacular vista. The house is very comfortable, with satellite TV, a fully equipped kitchen, 2 full bathrooms and a separate laundry room. I highly recommend a tour through Corcovados national park. We saw 4 species of monkeys, beautiful scarlet macaws, numerous small birds and lizards, with a guided tour by a knowledgable naturalist. The highlight of our jungle trek was a howler monkey fight overhead. Another fun tour for the more adventurous was a zip line through the canopy which includes multiple zip lines, hanging bridges, rappelling and a Tarzan swing. We were fortunate in sighting a blue morpho butterfly on this tour. I highly recommend this beautiful spot and hope to return soon."

"We must echo the positive reviews of those who have come before. "Heliconia" casita is easily accessed from the coastal highway (4x4 vehicle best) and perfectly located to take advantage of the the fine restaurants of Ojochal - the culinary capital of Costa Rica. It's a perfect mid-way point to day trip south to Sierpe and the Osa and north to Manuel Antonio and points in between. Our hosts, Laurice and Dennis, took us on an orientation tour of the immediate area on arrival which opened up all sorts of possibilities for exploration during our week's stay.
The house is comfortable and the kitchen well equipped for simple meal preparation. We enjoyed sitting on our patio in the evening watching darkness descend on our mountain view and awaiting the cooling evening offshore breeze to take away the heat of the day.
We fell into a rhythm of exploring the area in the morning (Sierpe is a must) and enjoying the glorious saltwater pool and fabulous gardens in the heat of the afternoon. The "sails" above and around the pool assured shade was always possible.
Although the casita sits on the same gloriously landscaped lot as the owners' home, our privacy was never compromised. The casita is physically set apart. Laurice and Dennis are very conscious of respecting personal space, but make themselves available to answer any questions and offer advice. When we did come together. we throughly enjoyed our conversations, particularly about the history of Ojochal. Learning about the development of this unique village is a Costa Rican exploration in and of itself."

"Two weeks after returning home, we are still in awe of how fantastic this place was. It met and exceeded every expectation. We really couldn't think of how it could be better. intimacy? check. rich jungle flora and fauna? check. amazing view? check. close to amenities and beaches? check. jungle paths to explore? check. a big yard? check. air conditioned comfortable bedrooms? check. clean and well-maintained? check. complimentary fruit and beer in the fridge? check.
1)the location is phenomenal. There were a lot of cicedas when we were there, but also birds, and of course howler monkeys, which come right to the edge of the jungle and can be seen from the house. For Canadians, it was very surreal to see flocks of parrots and giant butterflies. There is a breathtaking view down the mountain to the sea. Looking down from above, it was beautiful to see rolling mist over the lower forests while we had only stars above us.
2)There is a fantastic in-ground tiled infinity pool, complete with a shallow end and a deep end sufficient for diving. When you turn it on, you get a little waterfall into the pool that toddlers get ridiculously excited over. Our kids loved the pool, and spent hours a day in it.
3)The yard is large and beautiful. It is the perfect size to preserve a sense of intimacy, and always be close to the jungle. It is large enough for kids to explore and play hide and seek.
4)The house feels luxurious. The rooms are all spacious, including the kitchen, living and dining rooms and bedrooms. The kitchen is well laid out and can handle a crowd helping to prepare meals. There are two bedrooms upstairs adjoining a common bathroom with a shower upstairs with a small mezzanine for hanging out. The balconies are nice, and there are some bats that spend the day hanging under the roof and watching you outside. They keep the bugs away, and are fun to watch at dusk. My parents slept in the master bedroom downstairs with a lavish ensuite bathroom, which gave us all some privacy.
5) the roof is wide and provides lots of shelter from sun or rain around the house. We ate outside a few times, which isn't a substantially different experience from eating in the dining room, as all the walls are either windows or doors.
6) It would have been nice to perhaps have a few extra bowls and some sharp knives. That's it. That's the only thing that could make this place better.
We are really hoping to go back to this place!"

"We spent a month at this lovely property and enjoyed every day. Beautiful grounds, beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife near to beaches. Pool very welcome. It was lovely to sit on the balcony at the end of the day watching the sun setting. Would stay again if we return to Costa Rica."
