  • A Month In Paradise!

"We chose Casa Mono Titi for a month long stay and were not disappointed. Everything was great from the amenities of the house to the fabulous wide open view. The house is located 10+ mins south of Ojochal. There are 2 variety stores, a restaurant and an excellent meat market in Coronada where you turn off to take the 8 minute steep, scenic drive to the house. Our grocery shopping was mostly done at the BM supermarkets in Uvita about 20 mins north but discovered we could drive same distance south to the Palmar Norte BM supermarket; prices and selection were a bit better. I suggest buying duty free liquor/wine at the SJO airport as prices are cheaper. Most of our fruits and veg were bought at the Saturday market in Uvita or at roadside stands. The house has a charcoal BBQ with a neat gimmick to get the charcoal going. Try the smoked pork chops (chuletas de cerdo ahumadas) from the Carniceria (butcher shop in Coronada); their meat is excellent, their English is not! Restaurants we enjoyed were the Boca Coronada and the Tilapia Farm (2nd one) on the way to Ojochal as well as Exotica, Citrus, Mama y Papas, Ylang Ylang, all excellent choices in Ojochal. Fabrizio's has fabulous pizza and pasta (the gnocchi was delish)-small seating area but they offer take-out. If going to Dominical, try Por-Que-No restaurant then check out their small beach. Our days started at 5:30 to in order catch the best of the bird and wildlife action. The Mono Titi monkeys were frequent visitors in the large trees; watch for branch movement as they can be hard to spot. That's what we loved most about "living" here, every day provided a new amazing nature experience. Remember you are in the jungle so expect surprises! The Corcovada day trip was excellent; be sure to take backpack with water, snack, binoculars, camera and water shoes (not flip flops) as you get on/off the boat in the water. Expect 4 hours of hiking in the jungle; you will need closed walking shoes or, if has been very wet, boots would be best. The Osa Ziplining was OK (Arenal ziplining is better); not sure their rope bridge is safe! The house has well-stocked kitchen, A/C in bdrms, lots of dvds, books and bird guides, many comfy and shaded outdoor seating choices and a refreshing pool w outdoor shower. Denise, the property manager and David, our pool guy were wonderful. We learned so much from both of them, which made our stay here an experience we will never forget. Thank you Karen and Mario for sharing your lovely casa!"

  • Comfortable House in Great Location

"My wife and I stayed at the Cielo Grande house for two weeks and enjoyed it very much. During our stay, the toucans and green parrots flew through the yard each morning and most evenings, as well as several other types of birds. Humming birds frequented the feeder throughout the days. Early morning walks around the yard produced the best bird photos. Howler monkeys were often heard in the valley, sometimes close by, but never in the yard. Upper and lower sitting areas allowed for a variety of sceneries, and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. The Boca Coronado restaurant (soda) about a half mile south of the entrance to Ojochal, on the highway, had good food at reasonable prices, and it was also a good location to photograph scarlet macaws in the trees on the beach. Several times that we were there a flock flew in by the soccer field. Of the higher-end restaurants in Ojochal, Exotica was very good, although Citrus was less than pleasing and overpriced. Our favorite restaurant was Ballena Bistro located about three quarters of the way to Uvita coming from Ojochal on the left (the side of the building says “Goat House”). This place had creative tasty food at relatively fair prices. The two close by activities that we enjoyed were the Osa Canopy Tour a few miles south, and the ATV tour in Uvita. Both were a fun time. Overall, this house is comfortable and in a great location at a very good price."

  • A great place to stay in beautiful surroundings

"Our group really enjoyed our stay at Fiesta Del Rio. The cabina was clean and well appointed. We cooked a lot of our own meals and had everything we needed to do so. We really enjoyed eating outside on the spacious patio. There are a lot of nice beach options within a short drive. Playa Hermosa was our favorite. Nights cooled off nicely and were perfect for getting a good night's sleep."

  • Perfect location to explore the South Coast

"We must echo the positive reviews of those who have come before. "Heliconia" casita is easily accessed from the coastal highway (4x4 vehicle best) and perfectly located to take advantage of the the fine restaurants of Ojochal - the culinary capital of Costa Rica. It's a perfect mid-way point to day trip south to Sierpe and the Osa and north to Manuel Antonio and points in between. Our hosts, Laurice and Dennis, took us on an orientation tour of the immediate area on arrival which opened up all sorts of possibilities for exploration during our week's stay. The house is comfortable and the kitchen well equipped for simple meal preparation. We enjoyed sitting on our patio in the evening watching darkness descend on our mountain view and awaiting the cooling evening offshore breeze to take away the heat of the day. We fell into a rhythm of exploring the area in the morning (Sierpe is a must) and enjoying the glorious saltwater pool and fabulous gardens in the heat of the afternoon. The "sails" above and around the pool assured shade was always possible. Although the casita sits on the same gloriously landscaped lot as the owners' home, our privacy was never compromised. The casita is physically set apart. Laurice and Dennis are very conscious of respecting personal space, but make themselves available to answer any questions and offer advice. When we did come together. we throughly enjoyed our conversations, particularly about the history of Ojochal. Learning about the development of this unique village is a Costa Rican exploration in and of itself."
