  • Paradise Found!

"We echo everything written by our friend, Theresa K. What an incredible week and view from this "top of the world" oasis! The activities to experience in the area abound, e.g, snorkeling, zip-lining, beachcombing, boating, etc. The quality of the restaurants rival any in Europe...compliments of the large expat community of Americans, Canadians, and Europeans. The evenings on the terrace with magnificent sunsets and cool mornings for breakfast defined tranquility and peace. To ensure we had the best possible experience, Ken Stone (property manager) attended to every question and request. In addition, Rick and Diane (owners) were visiting the area and what a privilege to meet them! Rick even provided a personal e-mail with things to do/places to see while in San Jose before returning home. We simply cannot offer enough superlatives about the home and location...or Rick, Diane, and Ken, whom we now call friends. Most certainly, we will return! Thanks "friends"...."

  • Absolutely Delightful

"My wife and I stayed at Toucan Tango for two weeks in late December 2014. We had a better than excellent time, due in no small part to the total environment of Toucan Tango. The attributes are evident from the photos: exquisite view over the rainforest canopy to the ocean, fantastic pool, a lovely home that is fully appointed and furnished. The details: if the elements of nature are not your thing.....then Toucan Tango is not for you. The howler monkeys, giant toads, and plethora of tropical birds are a symphonic backdrop for the entire evening and nighttime. Poolside kitchen is great. Even though there are a number of remarkable restaurants about 10 minutes away in Ojochal, we chose to spend most evenings cooking and dining on the patio. While I would characterize ourselves as adventurers, many days we never even got in our car, opting instead to hang out on the poolside patio and walking in the jungle surrounding the home. The patio is totally private. We were gracioiusly greeted by a neighborhood friend of the owners, who provided us with a thorough orientation. A very useful notebook for the house and region is provided by the owners. Their restaurant recommendations are spot on. The road accessing the house is a fairly rough gravel track which is steep in spots. Accordingly, the owners recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Our experience was that even when we forgot to switch our car into 4 wheel drive mode, there was no problem navigating the track. The house is very spacious. Kitchen is well appointed, and we love to cook. This place reflects great attention to aesthetic details. Great art throughout. Excellent ventilation. The BR's are all air conditioned, but we never once turned any of them on, preferring the gentle breeze provided by nature and about a dozen ceiling fans........even on the patio. The pool is one of the nicest I've experienced at a vrbo rental. Obviously, we are considering a return trip"

  • Magical jungle dream

"Two weeks after returning home, we are still in awe of how fantastic this place was. It met and exceeded every expectation. We really couldn't think of how it could be better. intimacy? check. rich jungle flora and fauna? check. amazing view? check. close to amenities and beaches? check. jungle paths to explore? check. a big yard? check. air conditioned comfortable bedrooms? check. clean and well-maintained? check. complimentary fruit and beer in the fridge? check. 1)the location is phenomenal. There were a lot of cicedas when we were there, but also birds, and of course howler monkeys, which come right to the edge of the jungle and can be seen from the house. For Canadians, it was very surreal to see flocks of parrots and giant butterflies. There is a breathtaking view down the mountain to the sea. Looking down from above, it was beautiful to see rolling mist over the lower forests while we had only stars above us. 2)There is a fantastic in-ground tiled infinity pool, complete with a shallow end and a deep end sufficient for diving. When you turn it on, you get a little waterfall into the pool that toddlers get ridiculously excited over. Our kids loved the pool, and spent hours a day in it. 3)The yard is large and beautiful. It is the perfect size to preserve a sense of intimacy, and always be close to the jungle. It is large enough for kids to explore and play hide and seek. 4)The house feels luxurious. The rooms are all spacious, including the kitchen, living and dining rooms and bedrooms. The kitchen is well laid out and can handle a crowd helping to prepare meals. There are two bedrooms upstairs adjoining a common bathroom with a shower upstairs with a small mezzanine for hanging out. The balconies are nice, and there are some bats that spend the day hanging under the roof and watching you outside. They keep the bugs away, and are fun to watch at dusk. My parents slept in the master bedroom downstairs with a lavish ensuite bathroom, which gave us all some privacy. 5) the roof is wide and provides lots of shelter from sun or rain around the house. We ate outside a few times, which isn't a substantially different experience from eating in the dining room, as all the walls are either windows or doors. 6) It would have been nice to perhaps have a few extra bowls and some sharp knives. That's it. That's the only thing that could make this place better. We are really hoping to go back to this place!"

  • A Month In Paradise!

"We chose Casa Mono Titi for a month long stay and were not disappointed. Everything was great from the amenities of the house to the fabulous wide open view. The house is located 10+ mins south of Ojochal. There are 2 variety stores, a restaurant and an excellent meat market in Coronada where you turn off to take the 8 minute steep, scenic drive to the house. Our grocery shopping was mostly done at the BM supermarkets in Uvita about 20 mins north but discovered we could drive same distance south to the Palmar Norte BM supermarket; prices and selection were a bit better. I suggest buying duty free liquor/wine at the SJO airport as prices are cheaper. Most of our fruits and veg were bought at the Saturday market in Uvita or at roadside stands. The house has a charcoal BBQ with a neat gimmick to get the charcoal going. Try the smoked pork chops (chuletas de cerdo ahumadas) from the Carniceria (butcher shop in Coronada); their meat is excellent, their English is not! Restaurants we enjoyed were the Boca Coronada and the Tilapia Farm (2nd one) on the way to Ojochal as well as Exotica, Citrus, Mama y Papas, Ylang Ylang, all excellent choices in Ojochal. Fabrizio's has fabulous pizza and pasta (the gnocchi was delish)-small seating area but they offer take-out. If going to Dominical, try Por-Que-No restaurant then check out their small beach. Our days started at 5:30 to in order catch the best of the bird and wildlife action. The Mono Titi monkeys were frequent visitors in the large trees; watch for branch movement as they can be hard to spot. That's what we loved most about "living" here, every day provided a new amazing nature experience. Remember you are in the jungle so expect surprises! The Corcovada day trip was excellent; be sure to take backpack with water, snack, binoculars, camera and water shoes (not flip flops) as you get on/off the boat in the water. Expect 4 hours of hiking in the jungle; you will need closed walking shoes or, if has been very wet, boots would be best. The Osa Ziplining was OK (Arenal ziplining is better); not sure their rope bridge is safe! The house has well-stocked kitchen, A/C in bdrms, lots of dvds, books and bird guides, many comfy and shaded outdoor seating choices and a refreshing pool w outdoor shower. Denise, the property manager and David, our pool guy were wonderful. We learned so much from both of them, which made our stay here an experience we will never forget. Thank you Karen and Mario for sharing your lovely casa!"
