  • Wow

"My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our Costa Rica honeymoon. This is a beautiful open-air house with a gorgeous, well-kept property. The house is fully equipped with a kitchen, dining room, sound system, and hammock and couches for relaxing. The upstairs bedroom may be one of the loveliest places I have ever had the joy to wake up in. Wake up early, make some coffee, and go sit on the bench. Just do it. The family was very helpful and it was a joy to get to know them a little bit. Joselito showed us around the property and the differences between the kinds of oranges, lemons, and limes that grow as well as a really cool "miracle fruit" that makes everything on your palate quite sweet. Tato and Eddy are the family's labs that are very friendly and came to check on us a couple times a day and hang out with us. They are truly some sweet dogs and made us feel like we were home. We wish we stayed longer to explore more of the Osa but our trip was short and we really just wanted to relax. This is off the grid a bit and we enjoyed staying off of our electronics. We spent a good amount of time just listening to some of the Putumayo mixes already at the house and cooking food and making juices and smoothies. Elieth cooked us dinner our last night and it was the best meal of our trip. Seriously. Take any casado you have had the whole trip, and Elieth makes it better. More spice, more flavor, homemade tortillas, and leftovers! Jose grew the beans on their farm and they were excellent, even after a week of eating beans and rice. I would recommend this place for anyone and everyone that likes adventure, natural beauty, food, and fun. The bugs were pretty rough in the evening until about 8 or 9:00, but hey, they are pretty rough here in the middle of Missouri as well. The only thing we wished was that the beach in front of and next to the house were more conducive to swimming and laying out. The beach is quite rocky and during high-tide would be quite dangerous to swim in. Playa Tamales is the closest beach to swim and lay out and it is a short drive, though about a 45 min - 1 hour walk. Mark and Phoebe are very helpful and are available to answer any and all of your questions as well as make recommendations for food and adventures. We look forward to a future trip with a bigger group. Cheers, Andrew and Caitlin"

  • WOW! Part 2 of my review of Playa Lapa

"WOW! What a fantastic trip to Costa Rica and unforgettable stay at your unique and beautiful Playa Lapa!! We are so glad we found your place on VRBO. After visiting the nearby lodges, we think your house and property location was the best place to stay for our family of four. We especially liked the privacy of being on our own with the security of having Manuel and Phoebe nearby. We considered them part of our family, they were always so helpful and very discrete. Manuel alerted us to interesting wildlife sightings, especially the baby turtles hatching on the beach in front of your property while Phoebe was away in PJ. Phoebe is such a warm and wonderful person! She was indispensable in arranging our visits to Finca Exotica and Luna Lodge where we were warmly greeted by Monica, Lana and her mother before walking their amazing trails. She communicated with our guides, sometimes changing the dates of our tours to a time better suited to observe the animals or catch fish. She herself is a great guide, sharing her infectious passion for the animals and plants of the Osa. She gave us stems from her aloe vera plant and showed us how to cut and use it on our skin to relieve bites and heat rash. We understand why you treasure her! We are suffering terribly from Playa Lapa withdrawal!! It is eerily quiet in our home without the exotic jungle sounds and constant pounding surf. We miss the lush vegetation, tropical smells, clean air and humidity. It is soo dry here and looking outside there is no greenery, all is white and the trees look dead. And it is COLD!! Thanks again for all your wonderful help in planning our trip. Thanks to you we had a fantastic family vacation!"

  • Our Costa Rican adventure!

"We want to thank you for this incredible adventure holiday in a spectacular corner of the Osa Peninsula! The villa was perfect--we were three couples so each had our own private space. The place is stunningly beautiful. It met all and more of our hopes. The sound of the rolling ocean, the howling monkeys, the monkeys that made their almost daily treks through the trees on the property. Enchanting! We were able to take daily hikes -- twice to the St. Louis waterfall. We were in awe of the breathtaking beauty of the nature that surrounded us. Swam in the ocean with few or no others around. One day we hired a guide to take us through Corcovado Park--indescribable. We would highly recommend this mini-resort with all the amenities (including a chef who made delicious meals)!!"

  • Magical place, magical people

"We loved "Tres Palmas"! The wildlife around the property was as good as it gets. The villa offers every configuration of beds/rooms a large group could ask for. The caretakers not only cooked wonderful meals for our group, but they helped us organize some guided hikes and dinners in the neighborhood. Since we were deep in the middle of nowhere, having this kind of help was very useful. We liked the hike through the rainforest down to the beach everyday, and especially enjoyed "pan dulce" beach for its beauty and great community feel. We are still dreaming about our great adventure to this magical place, and planning to come back."
