  • Paradise Found at Sierpe Del Pacifico

"My family of five had the adventure of a life time at Sierpe del Pacifico (our three children range in ages from 8-17). The jungle home is stunning, clean and placed right in the middle of the jungle--toucans, parrots, capuchin and howler monkeys are neighbours. We loved the solitude and natural splendour of the property. Paradise is simply sitting on the porch, overlooking the jungle and the Sierpe River, watching scarlet macaws fly by. We took boat trips to Corcovado Park, Cano Island, Violin Island and went horseback riding with Rosita (which was so much fun)! Caesar was a top notch guide in Corcovado--very informative and he tracked a tapir for us. Felipe was a friendly, kind and knowledgeable driver on our way to and from San Jose. In fact, everyone we dealt with regarding our vacation was friendly, knowledgable and eager to help. The experience best suits those who enjoy nature and wilderness, don't mind hot and humid weather and can handle a 5-10 minute up hill climb to the house from the dock. Make sure to stock up on groceries well before Sierpe as we found the town grocery store lacking. Being submersed in the true jungle, I learned more on the Oso Peninsula about life than in my 8 years of university. I've been home for a while; yet, I still miss the howler monkeys and their morning calls. Thank you Cassidy, it was the most amazing vacation and I'd love to return."

  • Sierpe del Pacifico Adventure

"We recently returned from our second visit to Sierpe del Pacifico. We had an excellent time at SDP. Our accomodations in the River Cabin we quite comfortable. We ate most all our meals there but made a few visits to the Village. The SDP experience is perfect for anyone that enjoys exploring the beauty of Costa Rica. While we were visiting we enjoyed both a guided river fishing trip for snook, snapper & corvina & a fantastic day on the Pacific. We ate fish almost eveyday! We had another great day riding horses & visiting with Rosie & her family on a real Tico farm. Visiting with Rosie & her family was a great way for us to work on our Spanish too. We took daily walks on the miles of well maintained trails, taking pictures & video of the plants & animals. On this visit we saw all four species of monkeys that are native to CR. We enjoyed fresh fruits from the garden daily. If you snorkel or dive, a day trip to Isla Cano is highly recommended. The SDP staff were there to help with just a call on the cell phone provided. So much to do. We had a blast. We recommend grocery shopping in Pal Mar on your way to Sierpe for best selection. Be sure to read the info provided. It's full of important points to have a safe & enjoyable experience."

  • Charming house, great hosts!

"Our stay at Mango St. Casita was just what we hoped for. It’s a sweet little house, next door to owners’ house, but out of sight—sufficiently private. We had our own little patio that backed up onto a patch of jungle, where we saw birds, butterflies and cute little lizards – but not the sloths or monkeys other guests sometime see! Owners Nichole and/or Mario would stop by every day to see if we needed help organizing anything, or finding food—I had some of the best fresh fish I’ve ever had, when Mario found us some red snapper that had just been caught that day! They helped arrange trips to Corcovado, snorkeling, the night hike (fabulous!), and a private bird-watching walk (Carlos was great!). We loved having our own little place, and felt very taken care of as well. The house is a 5 minute walk from the boat landing, or to the collection of little restaurants and tiny tiendas in town. You can also walk from town down the coast, in the jungle with ocean views and sweet little beaches, for as far as you want. We had a great time, and would happily come stay here again!"

  • A Completely Relaxing Couple of Weeks

"As others here and in travel guides have indicated, Sierpe is a quiet town at the edge of a patchwork of palm plantations: the jumping off point for river tours, fishing and junkets to Drake’s Bay. Based largely on the comments from fellow reviewers, we had the pleasure of booking 2 weeks through our hosts, Morton and Mary Ann. The house lies several hundred metres from the Sierpe town square, a market and not far from a small row of hotels, tour operator offices and family-style restaurants serving typical tico fare. Morton undertook major renovations a number of years ago and keeps it in good shape. The floor plan is open with ample kitchen, dining, living room, and office that are all contiguous. It easily accommodated 5 of us with a nice balance of social space and room for privacy. Morton has also installed air conditioning. This was definitely a luxury and welcome respite from the heat and humidity. We had fine weather and spent most of our time lounging, reading and hanging out on the covered patio: retreating into the cool of the house after dark when the mosquitos came out. The patio overlooks the Sierpe river is a great place to watch birds, iguanas and other wildlife including crocodiles drifting in the current downstream. Morton is a terrific and gracious host. He arrived right after New Year’s, staying in his other house across town (2 minutes away) and would pop round for a beer and a chat or to see if we needed anything. Sonya, a neighbour who helps out with the house, is also a delight. She stopped by from time to time to check in and surprised us by sharing some of her homemade desserts. Sonya’s son runs river cruises and fishing trips and we enjoyed an evening wildlife outing on the water with him. In all, Sierpe may not have much going on compared to the hustle and bustle and party scene in Jaco. However, staying at Morton’s house was the perfect choice for us: a spacious house, a warm and congenial community, and laid back. There were plenty of opportunities to traipse about the area, head up the coast or out to Corcovado, Drake’s Bay, the mangrove swamps along the river, or to chill out on the patio and do nothing at all. Just what we were looking for!"
