"We stayed here for 4 nights in March and it was wonderful. The house is beautiful and it is set up to take full advantage of the breeze and the view. The weather was extremely hot during our stay -36 degrees Celsius - but we were able to sleep comfortably with the provided fans.
I'm a bird lover and it was sooo incredible to watch scarlet macaws in the trees just outside the bedroom windows. The property has all kinds of fruit trees and wildlife. We cooked for ourselves as we had been eating almost exclusively in restaurants during the earlier part of our vacation. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the fridge can hold a huge amount of food. The area is really incredible and we enjoyed exploring on foot and by car. The owners (Phoebe specifically) were very prompt in all communications and provided very helpful information. The caretaker family were always available and accommodating. We did not require help cooking meals but we did ask them to do some laundry for us and to help to arrange a dolphin-watching tour. They were always available to answer questions but were not at all intrusive.
We highly recommend staying here. We hope to return ourselves to the Osa and to Quinta Sonada."

"We stayed in Pelican house for 6 nights and could have stayed 6 weeks! The location is beyond spectacular. It feels remote and yet it is close enough to town to get groceries and have dinner (ceviche at Marisqueria Corcovado was a favorite!). The beach is almost always deserted, the water 80+ degrees and the sand incredibly soft. The house is well appointed with a comfortable bed, amazing outdoor shower, and well stocked kitchen.
Rafa, the property caretaker, made our stay particularly unique and memorable. He, his wife and daughter, are incredibly warm and welcoming. We enjoyed so many laughs with him and he is truly knowledgeable about the local area, plants and wildlife. If you speak Spanish and want to go for a local hike, Rafa is an amazing guide. He has an uncanny ability to spot birds, monkeys and other critters way up in the canopy. Although he will decline any money, add it to his tip at the end as he is not otherwise paid for being a guide for the guests--we were happy to be able to support a local family, especially one we had gotten to know so well!
If you can pry yourself from the hammock, explore the local dirt roads and beaches. Some of the bridges (particularly the first one coming from Puerto Jimenez) are a bit scary--the railings have been stolen and the bridge is the width of the car---but you'll get used to it and it adds to the adventure:) The surrounding area is incredible with lush jungle and beautiful farms. If you don't venture off the property, you are still guaranteed to see a ton of wildlife---I even saw a Jaguarundi while sitting on the deck--amazing!
Thanks Allison for being so easy to work with and for sharing your amazing piece of paradise! We hope to return!"

"We spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The host who met us (Guillermo) was helpful in every way and speaks excellent English. The house is really fabulous, and we found it such a relaxing place to spend time. It has plenty of room for 2 couples. Others have described it accurately in terms of what you will experience there. We loved taking the kayaks out (yes, there are crocodiles but they avoid the kayaks and just slip away from the boats). Because we were there in the off-season, there was not too much traffic up and down the river so thumbing a lift to the mainland wasn't really an option. However, transport can be arranged with SDP. They provided us with a local cell phone which was very helpful. There is a propane-fired barbecue on a separate deck and this was very useful for cooking the amazing fish we bought directly from a fishing boat on the return from a day at Corcovado NP. We are in our early 50's, in reasonable shape, and the hill to the house was just fine."

"Wow, what a breathtakingly beautiful house and property. I've never seen so many beautiful birds in my life. We've been to the Osa several times and this is by far the most central, best property to rent. It's smack dab in the middle of Matapalo and one can generally walk to everything, not that one needs to. You could literally spend your entire vacation at the house and the beach out front. The Caretakers are the most lovely people and are extremely knowledgable about everything and anything to do. They are there to answer any questions and tucked away so you have ultimate privacy as well. The layout of the house is perfect and all I keep thinking is how magical this place is. You are steps away from the beach, but luckily there is enough foliage in front of the house that you are not living in a fish bowl. This allows for way more privacy than the other houses that might have better views but everyone can see into those houses. It's the best of both worlds. The kitchen is amazing and what a great place to hang out and socialize around meals and coffee. You can literally open up the entire upstairs so that you feel as though you are in a big tree house as all you can see is lush green picaresque trees with scarlet macaws, toucans, parrots and more beautiful song birds than you can shake a stick at. You can then fold in the windows and slats at night to feel more tucked in. Each of the beds have fans for the hot nights but there always seems to be a breeze coming off the water to keep one refreshed. There is a perfect little plunge pool that is deep enough that one can submerge themselves up there there ears to cool off. There is beautiful bamboo and old growth trees and more amazing flower plant than I've seen anywhere. The indoor/outdoor showers are so beautiful. Once can observe so much nature in the trees near by but it all seems to stay far enough away as not to bother you. I saw four different kinds of monkeys including these little amazing squirre monkeys that are the cutest things I've ever seen. They came through with little mini babies on their backs. Our kids spent almost all there time hanging in the hammocks and watching the nature go by. There are two of the most incredible surf breaks right out front. One for beginners and one that is for beginners/intermediate and experts. The beach was basically empty most of the time, we felt like we had our own private beach. We've been to the Osa a bunch and this is hands down the most perfect spot."
